Darcy excuses, etc

As long as a profit is turned, I don't think anything will change. OSP is a businessman, and he doesn't really care about the Stanley Cup. This is all just a little game to him to see how much money he can make.....

I am listening to Regier's press conference. How many GMs of teams currently holding playoff positions are trying to sell to their fans on "guys pushing from behind?"

This team is 5th in Conference and this jackass is trying to make it about the guys in Portland? WHAT THE FU*K!

"PC Load Letter ?!? What the F$%!K does that mean on the fax machine Quinney?"

In no way am I defending Darcy, but what moves/players were out there to be had with so many teams still in the running for playoffs?

Defending him is exactly what you are doing. See the thread I started on players acquired by other teams who would be an improvement over players on the current roster.

I enjoy how Regier over the years, many times, has talked about this league as if the Sabres aren't a part of it. Yesterday, in trying to explain why there might not have been as much big name traffic, he noted that some of the names got traded before the Olympic break. As if he couldn't have been active before the break. Is this guy this bad, or is ownership keeping their thumb on him?

This was the comment that really made my blood boil. How does that (assuming it were true) affect the current Sabres' roster? Do we not have the MVP goalie in the world's biggest international competition playing for our team? Could we not give him just a little more support in this season's playoff effort? Apparently not.

I always thought the "wait until next year!" statement was not supposed to be uttered until AFTER you lost in the playoffs, not five weeks before the end of the season........:wallbash:

Whatever the reasons were for the team not making the million changes that the fans thought were necessary, what exactly do you expect him to say? "Yeah, this team is pretty crappy, you shouldn't bother buying tickets."

Hey, the honest approach is pretty much the only one he hasn't tried yet :D

..what exactly do you expect him to say?

How about this...

"The team has now played poorly over the last 15 games. In addition to Torres, we plan on bringing up a few different players from Portland(not at the same time) and see if there is someone that can help."

Instead we get Steve Montador at forward and Ellis and Mair on the fourth line, earning paychecks while having no impact on the game whatsoever. The loyalty by Lindy and Darcy to the guys on this roster is sickening.

Actually, although his words were different, that's exactly what he DID say. The end result is the same.

I think this board has gone through the Ellis/Mair thing a million times already, but that Montador thing was just a one game thing. You won't see him up front anymore. They had 18 skaters yesterday so they had to dress them all. If Torres couldn't make it in from Columbus on time, there was no way anyone was going to be able to make it from Portland. You might say that they could've called some one up ahead of time, but they didn't have the roster space for that.

I for one am willing to wait a couple games to see what Torres brings to this team before I throw everyone under the bus.

Until they start winning again on a regular basis or these two start contributing, consider this 1,000,001 and counting. ;) Play like #%^$#! for 15 games, but keep on throwing the same players out there. okie dokie.

He wasn't talking about Roy? (Sorry, couldn't let that one go.)

Why do you think they played poorly over the last 15, yet over the first 30-40, they were one of the better teams in the league?

I think the answer is somewhere in the middle - they are not as good as they were to start the year, and they are not as bad as they have been. Does that then warrant wholesale changes?

I don't know..i am just asking...

IMO the difference between the first 30-40 games and recent play...mistakes on top of mistakes and more mistakes. Too many giveaways by the defense, no goal scoring by the key forwards, lackadaisical play and Miller coming back to earth due to being run into the ground by Lindy. I also believe that the players tune Lindy out much more than any of us want to believe, which leads to the inconsistent play of the core.

To answer your last question regarding wholesale changes, the answer is yes. I have already thrown some ideas out there about the offseason, but here it is again in a nutshell.

Out...Rivet(buy out), Lydman or Tallinder let go to FA, Stafford, Mair, Ellis & Roy.

In...A new scoring line center via trade or FA, Ennis, Weber, Enroth, A PP QB and hoping a guy like Luke Adam is ready to go after a 1/2 year in the AHL.
