Darcy excuses, etc

Maybe to avoid messing up the trade threads we can start a list of Darcy's previous and current (aren't they always the same) reasons why he did next to nothing.

Post one sentence per post so everyone has a chance?

I'll start

"The shopping is much better in the summer"

Art imitates life, or life imitates art, not sure, but man we heard a lot of these, and variations thereof, in the presser.

A new one for Darcy was The Fear Factor. "I've studied this. I really have. I took my box lunch of a white bread sandwich -- that's two piece of white bread with air in the middle, and my three nilla wafers to the Erie County Library and I studied the NHL archives on their microfilm machine. And you're more likely to make a mistake at the trade deadline than not."

He said it! OK, some it!

It really is the defining comment for the guy. He operates out of fear. Fear that he could actually make a mistake managing a two-year-running non playoff team that is in the midst of an near-historic collapse.

(As we've discussed in another thread) I'm willing to buy the party line the last two years...and I'm even willing to buy not doing anything at this trade deadline to not panic and overbuy/oversell...but he better stick to the summer moves line he dropped, this time. There's no doubt the team needs improvement, no matter what happens the rest of the way.

In no way am I defending Darcy, but what moves/players were out there to be had with so many teams still in the running for playoffs?

I am having a tough time faulting him for this deadline - the problem lies more in not "re-adapting" to what it takes to win in this league again. That said, I think I am going to like Torres b/c he can score and muck it up, but we stil have to many softies on this roster..

Its his job to negotiate, you have to give to get. He is unwilling to move roster players. At the rate this team is going, a fire sale may have been the best Idea. These ass clowns this team fields on the ice now are horrible together, no chemistry. Miller is in the same position Hasek was in. This may continue for 2 or 3 more years, I gotta think Miller wants a championship, he's already showing his frustration this year with his comments to the press about his team mates play.

Darcy could have made bolder moves, he didn't, he failed, he has failed since he's been here. I don't see a Stanley Cup Banner hanging in the rafters at HSBC, thats a statement unto itself. Its been long over due, its time to move on from Darcy Regier and his style of management.
