TheMadCap Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Miller ripping into the team - nice! Can anyone be more specific on this for those of us watching on the Capitals feed (thanks DirecTV!)...
sabresnutinphoenix Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Oh, oh. Lindy just said it's "time to shuffle the deck." Oh yeah! Can't wait to see the new cards with all the jokers we have in the hand. GO SABRES!!! I think it is time to shuffle management, too!!!
Stoner Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Miller said it comes down to attitude and confidence. The attitude can't be based on hope, it has to be to take control. Need to trust in system. Playoffs are a chess match, system that cracks first loses. Earlier bought into the system, now looking for easier way. System is based on work. "If we're too thickheaded to let that (attitude) set in, we deserve what we get."
ThePebble19 Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Can anyone be more specific on this for those of us watching on the Capitals feed (thanks DirecTV!)... Yep, I would also like to hear what he had to say. Lindy's comment is just plain useless. Just mindless banter. Unless something drastic is done, like bringing one or more of the Pirates up from the farm, it's nothing more than shooting the breeze. I used to defend Lindy a lot, thought it was all on the players. The display I have seen in the last 15 games has made me absolutely sick. No heart, no game plan, no grit, no scoring. And perhaps worst of all, no one is held accountable for anything.

It didn't carry nearly the power of his "fragile little kid" tirade.

I am having trouble figuring out whether I really like Miller calling everyone out in the media...I am almost wondering if the team is turning on him. It's not that what he says isn't true, I just don't know if throwing your guys under the bus is what needs to happen.

LabattBlue Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Game thoughts(just got home from the game)... - The next time someone ###### about how quiet the arena is, consider the excitement level is directly related to the play and tonight there was nothing. I'm surprised the Sabres did not get booed more. This ranks as one of the worst home games I have attended in recent memory. What should have been an exciting matchup was a snoozefest. - Rivet SUCKS. He has sucked since the day he arrived and this is one trade that DR got fleeced on. I don't give a #%^$#! that he is the captain or fights 3 times a year. HE SUCKS....BAD!!! - The Sabres effort tonight was beyond awful. The forechecking was non-existant. Puck goes in, puck comes out...over and over and over again. - With the one open roster spot, I would start giving 3 game tryouts to any Portland player who might help. Ennis, Weber, Gerbe, Gogulla, Mancari, McCormick, Cowan, etc... You play well over the 3 games and you stay in the lineup. - Montador is a waste of time playing forward. Play him at defense a couple of shifts per period or play with 17 players, but don't play him up front. - Miller deserved better...a LOT better. Instead of calling them crybabies or whatever he did last time, he should tell them all to go #%^$#! off! - Was MacArthur in the sausage grabbing pic? Maybe the boys are upset that one of the club members got traded. - Guys I can't say I noticed even once in a good way...Pominville, Stafford, Grier, Kennedy & Connolly. - This defense is going to get destroyed come playoff time. They are not capable of winning battles. - Anyone who still had doubts that the FAB 5 shouldn't be blown up over the summer, should have been won over tonight.
darksabre Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Interesting. It's not that what he says isn't true, I just don't know if throwing your guys under the bus is what needs to happen. Nothing else seems to have worked. Does he really have any other options at this point? Everytime he calls the team out I like him more. Because he's saying exactly what I think he should be saying. He's saying what we all want him to say. That there are detrimental problems with this team that aren't getting fixed.
SabresRepublic Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 When you go to court there are rules of engagement and procedures which ultimately preserve your unalienable rights to live your life according to your free will respecting Life, Liberty, Property! On the ice there are also a set of rules that dictate how players can engage as a team against another for the purpose of winning the competition. Now that we have that out of the way here is my take on the Sabres product in general and specifically this season and most importantly, the last two games as well as the remaining 20. The Sabres greatest seasonal success was predicated on aptitude and skill. It is no surprise that they continue fine tuning that agenda. When they were clipping along at 70% through 47 games the NHL took notice. Something happened on the seven game road trip that changed the psychology and chemistry. While there has been sub par officiating prior to that road trip even at HSBC Arena it was epitomized by the retiring Frazer (NOT sure if spelled correctly) in Vancouver as to the subjective approach of NHL officials. Fast forward to yesterday the officiating was again suspect late - just when we were about to close the deal! Hey, we had to insist on the replay of the disallowed Roy's goal else they would NOT have done it from a competitive rules mandate! Tonight, like last we played our game that allowed us to be there at the end except for the official's NON-call! Roy's stick slashed out of his hands. At least two officials witnessed it. I could hear the sound of his stick slashing Roy's and nothing from the officials as if it was preordained Yesterday Crosby, today Ovechkin - premadonnas vested by the Wizards of OZ of the NHL Board of Governors and their narrow minded philanthropic mimicking privileged ones. I was watching the Caps feed and interestingly, after the NON-call they offered up an excuse that there was a changing of the guard in officiating a replacement here and there and then no other details play went on as if the obvious was being swept under the ice! This stinks and it's been going on for a long time. I say until Buttman (pun intended) is forced out or the officiating science becomes transparent they will continue to do as they please by proxy! I am sure that the IIHF leadership would NOT survive the scrutiny! Why should we let amatuer Buttman and company continue their carte blanche bastardization of a world class sport? And when I read some of these posts attacking the Sabre style, I say that Gaustad got sucked into that vitriolic style that sometimes rears its ugly head in the NHL condoned by the VERSUS guys (Melrose and co. -they should be fired - or if they want to settle this like goons we can step outside - HA! HA! HA!) BUFFALO SABRES, I say continue with aptitude and skill perfection and you will be rewarded and so will the NHL and its supporters of competitive hockey!

I agree with what you are saying, and everything he says when he talks is 100% true. The problem is, he has done this with the media a few times now, and nothing good ever happens after it. Something has to change. Something big has to happen to these players to make them realize that the first part of the season is in the past. They have 21 games to get their #%^$#! together, and start playing with a purpose. Whether that one thing is Torres, Ennis, Gerbe, or firing Ruff and hiring TomSmith. There has got to be some way to get in these guys' heads.

deluca67 Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Just got home from work and picking the wife up from the hospital. Listened to WGR on the way home. Read a couple of posts. Walked over to the TV and deleted the game from my Tivo. No need to watch a game I have seen about 100 times over the past three seasons. I have to ask this. If Lindy Ruff is such a great coach why does games like tonight continually happen? Is it really possible for so many players to underachieve on the same roster at the same time? Maybe it's not the players.

VansTheMans Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 As great as Miller was during the game, he was EVEN BETTER after the game. Thank god someone is saying what needs to be said in that locker room.

Slow starts to games, really poor second periods, the big finish at the end, falling apart in back to back games, third games in four nights... it could be 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010... it's like the friggin' Ruff Olympics. Ditto the comments on the wifie. Hopefully she just works there!

Thanks. It's my father-in-law actually. Had a stroke a couple of weeks ago. Still in the ICU. The thought is still appreciated.

I am NOT blaming the officiating for the Sabres inability to hold constant oressure in the offensive zone. The Sabres and many other teams have applied constant pressure only to lose anyway! It's about opportunity or lack thereof! The Sabres winning formula is aptitude and skill and they should continue perfecting what they started! Sabres getting sucked into a fight or bickering (remember the Bickering Bills?) is what the non-competitive minded want the Sabres to do! The Pens and Caps barely stole these two games thanks to piss poor officiating! With officiating subject to quality control we win it all!

If he is such a strong coach and has such a grasp on that locker room why does nights like tonight happen over and over? I think it is a fair and honest question.

I'm going to try and do my best DeNiro imitation: ARE YOU TALKING TO ME? OK, how 'bout John McEnroe: YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS! Certainly, you and all on the board can remember at least one instance in your young life where it was obvious or became apparent that some kids were treated with deference or reserve perhaps to your disadvantage or someone else's and all other factors being equal except like let's say some zillionaire's relation! Or, the prettiest girl or the HS QB! You see, and you thought that only happens in grammar school or high school!

With officiating subject to quality control we win it all! At the end of the first period tonight, we were tied with shots, at 11. For the rest of the way, we were outshot 28-13. The officiating had nothing to do with that. Washington didn't steal this game from us, we never had it to begin with. We were toyed with, just like we were the night before against Pittsburgh. We could have had the most ticky-tack officiating in the world, and it still wouldn't change a thing, because we can't score on the power play. Look, I get what you are saying, and I don't think there is a person in here that would disagree with this team getting their act together and stringing together some wins. But the officiating has NOTHING to do with the way we are losing games. Not a thing.
