Stoner Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 I may surprise a few of you by writing this, but when it comes to The Core, I don't feel like pointing to Lindy any more as a reason they aren't all that they should be. The excuses are over for these guys. They and they alone have to push through whatever issues they have -- ice time, assigned roles, line combinations, high expectations, big salaries, co-captain CF, injuries, fear of injuries, sore sausages -- and become prime time players in prime time from now until they win their last game of the playoffs. Some think the Sabres need to add to this roster to make a run. I agree. But isn't it high time that we also see some new players emerge from the current roster in addition to the new, elite Miller -- Thomas Vanek, Tim Connolly, Derek Roy, Drew Stafford and Jason Pominville defining their careers now? Not in LQ's fantasy land five-year window. We know what these guys can bring. We've seen it. The time truly is now for these guys to become complete, consistent players. I wish Lindy and Darcy would lay this challenge at their feet. And clean house if it doesn't happen. Because if it doesn't happen in the coming months, it will never happen. Wow, that was corny. I think I'll go back to hating on Lindy.

nobody Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 I'm still open to trading away most of that core if needed.
darksabre Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 I'm still open to trading away most of that core if needed. I'll second that. They've worn out their welcome in my world. This core has had plenty of opportunity to step up and play at a higher level and they've done nothing but tease us and then drop the ball over and over again. I would be happy to see any of them go.

LabattBlue Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 I'm still open to trading away most of that core if needed. As I have mentioned previously, I cling to the hope that the FAB 5 become different players come the playoffs, but even if they do, I stand firm on my "trade Roy in the offseason" bandwagon.
VansTheMans Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Trade Roy to LA. He would fuggin LOVE it there. Bring me back Jack Johnson or, less likely, Dustin Brown.
darksabre Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Trade Roy to LA. He would fuggin LOVE it there. Bring me back Jack Johnson or, less likely, Dustin Brown. Yeah, give up an Olympian for Derek Roy. Right.
Kristian Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 I'm still open to trading away most of that core if needed. I'd love to see Roy, Stafford and MacArthur gone. Roy because he might actually bring something, and shows no signs whatsoever of maturing in his game, the other two because they're bums. Why MacArthur is considered a top 6 player though is beyond me. He's a third liner on his best days.
VansTheMans Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Yeah, give up an Olympian for Derek Roy. Right. Haha, I know, right? Johnson doesn't get along well with the coaching staff in LA. Either way, won't happen.
nucci Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 They can trade anyone but Miller and Myers and it would not bother me.
LabattBlue Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 They can trade anyone but Miller and Myers and it would not bother me. I am hoping that Adam, Kassian, Ennis and McNabb are all on the development fast track and are in blue and gold by the start of the 11-12 season at the latest(10-11 season for Ennis).

I know 100% that if they weren't they would be roasted regularly like Satan, Max and Kotalik. In the words of Dennis Green "they are what we thought they were." They are soft physically and mentally.

After last night, I've returned to my senses. I thought there was no way watching those Olympics and knowing you have that goaltender might light a spark under some of them.
nobody Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 After last night, I've returned to my senses. I thought there was no way watching those Olympics and knowing you have that goaltender might light a spark under some of them. It sparked Lydman and Kaleta. Or maybe they are all waiting for tonight when Miller is actually in net.
VansTheMans Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 We could always do what Colorado did; bring up the youngin's and just let them play. Trade away our soft core, acquire a few key players and draft picks, bring up the boys from the AHL and see what happens. I wouldn't mind that. I'd be willing to take that chance. As it stands now, I HATE this team. Their uninspired play makes me sick to my stomach.

Trade away as much junk as possible and throw the young guys into a baptism of fire and see what they can do. We might lose a lot, but at least there might be some more effort on the ice than we've seen in a long time.
inkman Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 The Core I want to ride that giant fallic like machine into this team's core like the movie, with chz as playing the role of Hilary Swank, right into their inner core/rectum area. Drop some bombs and blown the ###### thing up.
rickshaw Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 I think the Sabres' window is open right now. If Miller can continue to play like a Vezina winner, the organization owes it to the team to move as much as possible to make sure they get into the dance. Every time you get in the playoffs, anything can happen. They are dangerously close to not making it. Yes, that 11 point lead can evaporate just as quickly as their 13 point lead on Ottawa did. I say move any of the top 6 forwards. Get some toughness and character in return. Stafford's gotta go. Vanek can go too, but his contract is hanging around his neck like an albatross so we're stuck with him. Reiger should be trying to move bigger pieces, as opposed to making rinkydink deals.
nfreeman Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Last night's "effort" from the "top 6" was pathetic. Connolly, Pommer and Vanek were invisible. $17MM for those 3? And that's how they show up after a 2-week vacation? Ridiculous. There's been quite a bit of complaining here about Roy, and plenty of it from me, but he was the only one of the top 6 who looked to me like he gave a hoot last night. I'm not expecting much today, but I am expecting this: if this keeps up, the Sabres will get smoked in the 1st round, and Darcy will be fired -- and that will be the right outcome. If he wants to stick with this group, fine, but he's accountable for the results.

One game Roy looks great and the others look like #%^$#!. The next game Vanek looks great and the rest look look like #%^$#! and on and on and on....

inkman Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Darcy will be fired...he's accountable for the results. I can't imagine a scenario where this happens. They could lose every game the rest of the season by 5 goals or more and I still don't see this happening.
