Hawk Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Was Looking at the prospects page for updates, and found this guy. Looks like our scouting staff has a jewel in the ruff. Nick Crawford added two assists and a +2 to his fine season line on Friday as Barrie smoked Oshawa, 9-2. Crawford's 64 points are tops among OHL defensemen, while his +48 rating is tied for the lead in all of Canadian juniors with Colby Robak of the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings. At 48-8-0-2, the Colts are currently the top-ranked team in the CHL/Mastercard Rankings with two weeks left to play in the regular season.

I have asked a few people about him because I too was intrigued by the numbers and one guy thought he was a definite sleeper while another thought he was strictly a minor league prospect. It would be huge to get another prospect out of that draft.

gregkash Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 When your team is 48-8-0 it's pretty easy to have decent numbers. Not saying the kid isn't good, but I never cared much for Juniors numbers.. IO wanna see what he does in the AHL when he gets to that point.
darksabre Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Just as long as he's not the OHL Body Checker of the year.

A lot of the 20 year olds ending up having big years because of their experience relative to their competition. It doesn't always translate. Remember, he was a 6th round pick and his name hasn't come up whenever Reiger talks of future Sabres.
LabattBlue Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Just as long as he's not the OHL Body Checker of the year. Well played. :D

He started the season with the Saginaw Spirit, who are 7th in the WC at 31-25-5-2. His +/- wasn't on par with what he is doing now, which is probably due to being on a great team, but his other numbers were arguably better (pace-wise): Saginaw Spirit - 19GP, 4G, 17A, 21P, +5 Barrie Colts - 42GP, 6G, 39A, 45P, +44 However, I'd guess that TW is right and it has a lot to do with being one of the few overage (20 year old) players.
chileanseabass Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Sounds oddly similar to Brian Campbell and his 4th year in juniors: 1998-99 Ottawa 67's 62 GP - 12 G - 75 A - 87 PTS He was also a 6th round pick (#156 overall)
