A free drink, trade deadline deals, Tallinder and Lydman

I am so confident that there will be what a majority of you will consider a "significant" trade before the deadline that I will buy 25( not 25 for each poster) free drinks for those members who come to Jades on a date to be determined.

Also, Tallinder and Lydman, pending free agents. Will one or both be traded or offered contracts? I would be surprised but not shocked if they traded Hank. I also wouldn't be that surprised if a contract extention was announced for him. Lydman, I think may be dealt.

But if they're free drinks why do you have to buy them? ;)

I don't see either getting an offer until the season is over.

haha, i hope you are right, but i am curious as to why you are so confident?

This is a strong team, but they are missing something. Whether it's a strong defenseman, a proven forward, or a solid back-up goaltender is a matter of opinion. Either way, it would be refreshing to see Darcy break tradition and make a big move in order to make a serious run at the cup. As far as Lydman and tallinder go; I would say move lydman (i am afraid of what would happen if myers and tallinder are split) but do not offer tallinder anything in the off season.

Nice, but is it wishful thinking or thinking positive?

I wondered if any of our olympic players value would go up. MEH, Sekera got top 4 minutes and was on the ice in a lot of critical situations, Tallinder was in top 2 minutes I believe, Lydman top 4?, Hecht not so sure?. Being selected and playing should say something about their values.

If we are going to lose a couple of them season end anyway it would make sense if we can get something we need to trade them when their value is highest.

Significant? Can I have an example of what type of assets that the Sabres would be giving up in said trade? :)

TW, you are one of the most credible posters on this board, but I must point out that you made a similar prediction last year that made me half-expect the Sabres to get Bouwmeester. Still -- hope springs eternal and I will be the first to give you credit if this happens.

Would you care to predict which position gets filled in the trade?

Breaking up the "core" would be significant. Would be a great message to the fans and to the locker room that the Sabres are not willig to wait forever for their "core" to finally raise to that next level. I would still like to see a Nathan Horton in Sabres blue and gold. If Jay McKee is available I would like to see him return and send Rivet, Lydman or Montador packing.

I would love for this front office to go way beyond the expectations(let's face it they are not that high)fans have. It would be great to see a multi-player deal go down with at least two of what the Sabres refer as their "top six forwards" going out and a top six forward and defenseman with some talent and grit (they do exist) coming back to the Sabres. What I do not want to hear on Wednesday is that Tyler Ennis is the Sabres future.

I agree with most of this, although not so much on McKee. I would not want to trade Connolly or Vanek but I'd be fine with any other top 6 forward going out in a bigger deal that brought back a good player in return.

I wouldn't give up much for McKee. I like what he brings to the rink and I would much rather Myers learn from a Jay Mckee than a Tallinder or Rivet. I would trade Connolly or Vanek in a heart beat if it helped change the core of this team. I like the idea of having those contracts off the books going into the off-season. I would like it even more if there were a GM in place who would use that money to bring in some top level talent via free agency. If the Sabres were to free up that money Regier would just extend Tallinder and Lydman with it.

You should be banned from the board for even mentioning this. Regier should be fired for even considering it.

It would have to be a pretty good deal for us to give up one or both of them. If we traded both for youth it would be like saying we are not serious about this years playoffs. And even for one of them it would still leave us thin on the blueline. I can't really see Revit making it through two or three playoff series. And I'm very much in favor of giving Lydman a nice contract extension, but I'm sure he could make more some place else.

Last year was an educated guess that I think actually came close to happening. This year is....

I'd be in favor of trading any of the bottom 6 or 7, Guastad and Greir included, in order to improve the skill level of this team.

That would be quite the trick.

Obviously those players by themselves wouldn't bring an impact player in return, they'd have to be packaged with other assets.

Other than that opening up a roster spot could make way for a player like Ennis.

So you are telling me I wasn't in a drunken stupor the other night when I picked up the obvious flavor that something is in the works and everyone knows about it?

This may also explain why Larry Quinn was kissing Steve Montador's butt so much that night. I only thought he jock-sniffed the goal scorers. Must know he needs him down the stretch.

I felt like John Lithgow hanging over Denzel Washington's shoulder in Ricochet standing next to Quinn.

Sounds like you're a jock-sniffer once removed.
