Two or less Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Back up goalie is irrelavant on this team, the real issue is a serious lack of sack among the top six. Per John Vogl- Sabres trying to land a top 6 right winger. Also, they offered Clarke MacArthur for Matt Cullen, but Carolina liked Ottawa offer more. Per Jeff Marek (CBC sports)- Thinks Martin Biron will end up with Sabres.
carpandean Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 I'm sure fans in Carolina and Boston thought Ward and Thomas would always play at elite levels. It doesn't work that way. Tim Thomas is over six years older than Miller, so the chances of him hitting a wall at 35 were a lot higher than Miller's chances are at 29. Cam Ward has never had a statistical year even approaching what Miller has done this year. Miller's numbers last year were comparable to Cam's numbers and those were his (Cam's) career bests. Even this year, he hasn't played that badly. His save percentage barely dropped from 91.6% to 91.3%. His GAA has gone up 0.3, though, which tells me that he's facing a lot more shots per game, which is on the team in front of him. I'd definitely like to see them make some moves, but I don't see the logical conclusion being that they should go all in this year because Miller might not be good after it. I'm realistically hoping for two decent moves, one of which will help them beyond this year, and leaving any expectations of a more significant change to at least this Summer.
theend Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Goaltending is the great equalizer in the NHL. If the Sabres can go out and get a decent backup that can allow Miller to rest and accumulate some points it only bolsters the Sabres chances. Back up goalie is not my top priority. Breaking up the brat pack and infusing some talent with grit (and yes Darcy those players do exist) should be the #1 priority. They need to change the makeup of the core significantly. If they can somehow get that done before Wednesday? With the level Miller is playing? Maybe add a defensman for the top four? Than getting to the finals is a real possibility. I do think think if Miller plays at the level he was earlier in the year he can steal a series or two. If the Sabres can toughen up in the forward ranks and get a solid defenseman maybe Miller won't have to steal a series, especially early. I can tell you great certainty what will prevent the Sabres from making a playoff run this year. Standing pat while waiting for your core group to get better, having a defense that includes Lydman, Montador and Rivet in the top six and having one of the softest teams in the NHL. This is what we definitely agree on, because I don't think we should stand pat, either, and that's where I think the real problems lie. That's where I was coming from with saying that the back-up situation is something to deal with in the offseason. If we're going to dangle Gerbe or a draft pick or two out there, I would prefer it would be to bolster defense or the forwards (and I strongly prefer non-rental players). I think it would be a waste to trade anything of that value for a backup...but then not improve our skaters, or only improve them with a rental.
TomSmith Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 No....Asian porn, amputees, Big, Breasty, and Over 50.......that's more my style. Nah pillow biter is more the style that you exude.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted March 1, 2010 Author Report Posted March 1, 2010 Nah pillow biter is more the style that you exude. If you are propositioning me, I'll accept. Meet me in the employee lot of the Buffalo News at 2 PM tomorrow. Mine is the purple Saturn. I'll wear a Connolly jersey to make it more realistic for you. I should probably put down the bag of beef jerkey I'm working on. That is, unless you like a little "feedback". PS.....since you're the expert, should we mellow out with a Merlot....or a nice Cabernet?

A man with reason. Some tweaks are needed, massive overhaul not even possible in March.
zow2 Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Seeing as Miller is at probably the peak of his career amd in his prime right now....the GM has to make a move to "go for it" this season. Don't mortgage the entire future but the Sabres have the best goalie and that's the biggest piece to a Stanley Cup champion. Add a couple pieces Darcy....NOW!

What's the worst that can happen? They give up a prospect/draft pick that we don't even know will be any good anyway?

I'm curious about the Connolly reference because for some reason I had the impression that your types were infatuated with the Goose.

Are you just going to sit there, Darcy-like, and do nothing while the lubricated, black, ribbed baton of board perviness is yanked from your greasy, smelly fingers?

I'm getting old and based on what happened in the bathroom this morning, I might need to change my outlook on life. Bad things man, bad things...

inkman Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 A near-dump-of-death experience? Cut down on the spicy food or gets some antibiotics. To be honest, drinking from 1pm until 9pm probably had more to do with the situation than anything but none-the-less it was a life changing event. A fart isn't always just a fart... :(

Farting out a blast of ink would have earned you Squid were I the one handing them out but Inkman works too I guess.
Stoner Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Gambled and lost, eh? LMAO The hockey equivalent of everyone heading to the bench and the puck not getting deep.

Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted March 1, 2010 Author Report Posted March 1, 2010 You know, they've revoked owner's licenses in Virginia, New Jersey and Ohio for less than this. Well, if I get a call.....I'll know who pointed it out. At least you were smart enough to use a screen name. This guy shows up out of nowhere and starts insulting many posters that mind their own business. If someone has a beef with me, that's fine....I'm a big boy. But don't insult decent people because you don't agree with them. I may be old school and use off color remarks at times, but I think anyone here would tell you I go after the organization....not the posters. I'll only throw a few playful barbs at posters when their obvious white-collar personality shines through by their views on certain things. Although if spndnchz is actually a 20 year old, 110lb, blonde female on relative low doses of anti-psychotics........I owe her an apology. This board is usually lightyears ahead of the football one when it comes to behavior and quality. I used to like getting the regulars riled up about things, but in time pretty much everyone came to the conclusion I had. Now I am just like the dumb jock visiting my old high school for a while after my early shift at Arby's.
cdexchange Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Gambled and lost, eh? One bad pinch is all it takes. We're still talking about hockey, right?
SwampD Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 #%^$#! the bed...er...floor. oof. It's been a while since I've shissed myself. I really hope those days are behind me. No pun intended and no guarantees.
Stoner Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Sabres-Flyers, Game 4 at the Aud, 1995 playoffs. Eric Lindros destroyed someone in the corner, took the loose puck away and fed a teammate in front for a goal. I could have shat. I wanted to. I had to go, badly, the whole night. But I have issues with public restrooms. I might (might) be able to do Number 1, if there's a stall, if my back teeth are floating. Number 2? No way. So I managed to survive. The Sabres didn't. On the way home, the cramps are coming in waves. This is labor pain. (Sorry, ladies, I know it's ridiculous for a man to say that.) But the timing of the cramps is such that I think I can make the two hour drive. But the intervals are shortening. (Also can't do the outside dump; besides, no TP, and the Goal Magazine was three bucks.) I do make it. Rush into the house, shedding jacket, pulling out shirt, up the stairs, hat goes flying, ticket stubs raining like confetti. Into the bathroom, pants down, turn around, down go the skivvies. Safety! All over the floor. One foot short of completing the impossible 90-mile, 5,245-foot dream. It could only happen to a Buffalo sports fan. I love that story. Sorry if it was anyone's lunch break.
