nfreeman Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Sorry for starting another Olympic hockey thread, but I am curious as to people's predictions for this specific game. I think Russia is going to take it. They looked terrific against Czech. Canada, OTOH, looks like the pressure is getting to them. Also, even for the anti-Olympics group, I urge everyone to watch this game. It has epic potential.
Two or less Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Canada. We all know how much NHL teams rely on goalies in the playoffs, and IMO this is even more intense. Miller was just on ESPN radio and said he lost more weight during this game then any games he's ever played and said he's never been so worn out before after a game. He said it's due to the pressures, the constant movement, and massive pressure Canada can put up in a 2-min span, he said he couldn't stop sweating like crazy the entire game. You need a guy who is experienced and a work horse to be able to compete in those kind of situations. Ilya Brzygalov? I don't know if he can handle it. He's a terrific goalie, don't get me wrong, but on this kind of stage, can he make the few saves that are nearly impossible to make to help his team? Canada vs. Sweden will be a great game though.
darksabre Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Canada hasn't played like a team this whole tournament and it's going to cost them against Russia.
CallawaySabres Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 I just want to know when the heck this game is being played. Some places say 7:30 est and others say midnight. How tough can it be to find this out!
Two or less Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 3:00pm USA - Switzerland/Belarus 7:30pm Russia - Canada/Germany 12:00am Sweden - Slovakia/Norway
CallawaySabres Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Thank you thank you thank you - what a game!

Nash will try to knock him out...I think I am really disliking that guy...all he does is try to run the goallie...always looses a blade at the last minute and railroads right in to the goalie. Did it to Miller twice that I can remember.
Sabre Dance Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Nash will try to knock him out...I think I am really disliking that guy...all he does is try to run the goallie...always looses a blade at the last minute and railroads right in to the goalie. Did it to Miller twice that I can remember. Getzlaf was doing the same thing - he took a goalie interference penalty early, but he kept his nose in Miller's crease the rest of the night. Please, Darcy - hire Billy Smith as a goalie coach! A few chops to the skate boot (or a few stick knobs to the jaw) will keep these guys off Miller. (Oh, I used to play goal - sorry, I'm biased.)
LabattBlue Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 No offense to our neighbors to the North and I know there are members here who are Canadian, but I hope Russia wins 10-0. :)

TomSmith Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 I hope Canada wins because I want these canadian fans to eat their words about the USA being lucky in that game. It would be great to see the USA beat them again.
Buffalo Fan Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 And Ovechkin will knock Nash out. I swear Nash purposely dulls his skates so he'll loose a blade and crash into the goalie. I think it's blatently obvious. I hope somebody runs him...
nfreeman Posted February 23, 2010 Author Report Posted February 23, 2010 I've been thinking about this a bit more. I think I am going to find myself rooting for Russia, and I think it's because I think Canada is a better team -- so if Russia takes them out, it will make it easier for the USA to win the gold. I know Russia is loaded with scorers, but when Kalinin and Afinogenov are killing penalties late in the 3rd period of a close game, there are clearly some weak spots. Just a theory which could easily get blown to bits by the Swedes.
wjag Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 I'm tickled that Sweden-Canada-Russia are going to be in a death match with only one coming out. Hopefully the USA delivered Champagne to the Fins... I suspect Russia beats Canada and Sweden beats Russia. My reasoning: 1. Canada has to play an extra game, so they'll bring bumps, bruises and tired legs into the bout with Russia. 2. Russia vs Canada will be WWIII. This game will be epic. I see both teams going full throttle and Russia edging them because of Canadian tired legs. Might even be Fleury in goal for that one. 3. Sweden has an easier draw and will mop up the Russians with that goalie who has yet to give up a goal. But Russia will be bringing to wood to Sweden.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 No offense to our neighbors to the North and I know there are members here who are Canadian, but I hope Russia wins 10-0. :) Considering your forum name your answer is unacceptable...........Perhaps you should change your forum name to Zhigulevskoye......
Hirly5 Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 I am going to go with Canada in this game. I know Canada beat up on a weak German club last night but could the loss to the USA have awoken a sleeping giant? I am not a big fan of the Russian D situation. I think Russia's offense helps the weak defense a lot but I think Canada can control the Russian forwards. Either way, this is going to be a great game. The hype of Crosby vs Ovie always brings out the best of those two. I thought this match would happen in the gold medal game but to think that one of these teams will not even get a chance to medal is amazing.
DaFan Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 And Ovechkin will knock Nash out. There are a few players I'd like to see him lay out with a good, solid, clean hit!
R_Dudley Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Nash will try to knock him out...I think I am really disliking that guy...all he does is try to run the goallie...always looses a blade at the last minute and railroads right in to the goalie. Did it to Miller twice that I can remember. Yes exact same thing I am seeing. If ref's can recognize guy's who dive and have the reputation how does this guy get away with this. I also thought the IHF rules were tighter when it came to some of the rough/cheap stuff but I haven't seen that. Did you see that after period body slam Neidermeyer did to Johnson at the end of second period the other night ? No call. I'm tickled that Sweden-Canada-Russia are going to be in a death match with only one coming out. Hopefully the USA delivered Champagne to the Fins... I am also now rooting for anyone but Canada because I am tired of the Canadian Olympic schtick and the smaltz they have been espousing.
korab rules Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 There are a few players I'd like to see him lay out with a good, solid, clean hit! How about ###### Heatley for starters! God, I hate that guy.
wjag Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 How about ###### Heatley for starters! God, I hate that guy. That'd be okay, but Alfie tomorrow gets my vote..

Did it to Miller twice that I can remember. Miller has to smarten up and learn how to 'fall' on the player's head. A forearm or elbow to the head will cure a player of losing an edge and running into the goalie.
Eleven Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Dunno why; I just think I might have picked the wrong team on this one.
gregkash Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 is it too late to cast my vote for canada... what with a 7-3 lead after two.. it's like the teams met before the game and were like.. Goalies? #%^$#! goalies.
Two or less Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 I voted Canada and did think they would win. Momentum is an amazing thing in sports, plus i was no sold on their goaltending. For some reason i thought Bryzgalov was their #1 and Nabby #2 but either way, i'm not sold on any. Nabakov is a very inconsistent goalie and doesn't deal with pressure well. With 95% of the house going against them, i didn't think he could stand in there. I also thought Russia called up too many KHL players. KHL is NOT comparable to the NHL, guys like Alex Frolov stayed home but a lot of bums were send. Doesn't make sense to me, i just think Russia tried to beat the Canadians and US with their guys. Even though i thought Canada would win, i never expected it this bad. 7-3? And honestly, it was much worse then that. The score doesn't even tell the whole story imo. Also, i was SHOCKED when Russia stayed with Nabby after their timeout. To me atleast, it was obvious, Nabby's head wasn't in this, and after the timeout, Russia NEEDED a spark.... the failed. Anyways, i'm still smiling from the US game, Canada game was a disappointment, but, now it's Czech vs. Finland in my hockey marathon. The game i can't wait for is Sweden vs. Slovakia.
