Cheechoo placed on waivers...

The link didn't work for me.

Not sure what your point is, but if it's that the Sabres should claim Cheechoo, definitely "NO THANKS!"

He's slow, not skilled, overpaid, and only did well before his knee injury because he was lucky enough to ride shotgun to Joe Thornton in SJ

Link didn't work for me either. My point, I thought rosters frozen, means rosters are frozen. No movement. Isn't waiving someone considered movement? Didn't say I wanted him, just asking a procedural question.

Yeah he sucks, compared to Mair, Ellis, Gerbe, Kaleta, Hecht...they don't do much either.

With the exception of Hecht, he makes more than the rest of them combined this year and next ($3.5 million in salary, $3 million in cap.)

His numbers for the last three years:

2007-08: 23G, 14A, 37P in 69GP

2008-09: 12G, 17A, 29P in 66GP

2009-10: 5G, 9A, 14P in 61GP

Hecht's numbers for the last three years:

2007-08: 22G, 27A, 49P in 75GP

2008-09: 12G, 15A, 27P in 70GP

2009-10: 13G, 15A, 28P in 59GP

People already think that Hecht is overpaid, but with the exception of Jochen's bad year where they put up comparable stats, Hecht has been more productive in recent years. Cheechoo had an amazing year finishing Thornton's passes right after the lockout, but has been on a steady, rapid descent since then. He's been on teams with better playmakers than the Sabres have and has done very little. If they are going to take on a player making $3.5 million, he has to bring more to the table than that. They can't easily get rid of Hecht's contract (and he's actually playing closer to someone who makes that much, now); they certainly don't want to take on a worse one.

Drury and Briere also sucked before they came here...if we do nothing else, why not pick up Cheechoo and see what he can do with players like Vanek, Roy, Stafford, Kennedy...

it couldn't hurt us!

Drury, didn't suck before arriving here nor did Briere. In fact Drury won a cup with Colorado. Kaleta and Hecht, sucking? Disagree. This team suffers from lazy players but non of who you mentioned. If I have to see Vanek playing lazy in his own zone reaching to hook a player as opposed to turning his legs and driving through him....Thomas Vanek is what is wrong with this team! Watch him before you say otherwise.....He has a whole different gear when he enters the scoring zone or has an edge on a player. He has no heart! I would trade him in a heartbeat and not look back. When you demand 7 Million you better be ready for the responsibility. I agree Mair and Ellis are not going to win you any games and I'd rather they play in Portland, but we all know we are at best going to limp into the playoffs and get beat 4 games to 1 or 2. Miler is not capable of being mentioned in my opinion with the Greats such Brodeur and Roy.....Miller breaks down every year and now adding these Olympics to the mix...wellll forget about it!

Roster freeze went into effect at 3 p.m. on Friday.

That's what I thought I heard on NHL channel yesterday. So is a waiver considered a move?

The Sabres should being taking a close look at every player that becomes available. The frustrating thing is I don't think they do.

The frustrating thing is when people get frustrated over things about which they have no idea.

I wonder if he's due a cup of coffee...

he didn't demand anything. the oilers thrust it upon him and buffalo matched. i hate to say it, but using your thought process, he has no responsibility beyond signing the offer sheet, which 100 out of 100 players would have done.

how is playing olympic games any different than playing regular season games? it's not like it's extra games. if anything, he's had a significantly lighter workload (26 total shots faced in two games so far). six games in two weeks at most.

It's not?

You do know that the season is still 82 games, right? Miller will play more NHL games this year than last (due, in part, to his injury last year) and close to as many as the year before, plus another (most likely) 6-7 Olympic games. How are those not extra games, exactly? I'll agree that the first two were pretty easy, but they face Canada in their third game and most of the elimination round games will be against tougher opponents.

I'm no Colon Campbell. If it were up to me 'will' would be suspended from posting for the rest of the regular season and playoffs. He would be eligible to apply for reinstatement the day before the draft.

No one(the public) knows which offer sheets are proposed to an agent, which in turn are rejected down by the players, and I am sure that this has been the case many times. There is no way 100% of all RFA offers are accepted by the player.

Here is the pitch to the player by his agent...Edmonton(which has become one of the least desirable teams to play for in the NHL) wants to offer you a 7 year 49 million dollar deal. I know you like where you are currently playing and I am not sure they(your current team) are going to match the deal. If you sign this offer sheet and they decide not to match, you are going to be playing and living in Edmonton for the next 5 years. Are you okay with that? Obviously Vanek was, but I'm sure there would be others who would have said NO.
