Two or less Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 R.I.P. Nodar Kumaritashvili. He was riding down today in a practice run in luge for his country Georgia. On curve 11, he had an accident and flew off the track. He died later in the day. Rest in peace. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/12/nodar-kumaritashvili-cras_n_460474.html (VERY graphic photos and video) Tragic start to the Olympic games. Earlier on the same course, an Italian luger, defending champion, also crashed on curve 11. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance. At the time of the Nodar accident, the Italian was fighting for his life but it appears he will be ok. On this course, there's been over a dozen accidents already in training. Problem is, Canada's whole program "Own the podium"... they had no realistic chances of winning at Whistler, so they created a course that is on average 15mph faster then any other Luge course in the world and that on Average vertical drop is 28m greater than at other tracks. What a horrible day.
