The_Swannie_House Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Kovy is worth more than a "few players." As it stands now with Miller seemingly losing his edge and ability to carry the team? It might be time for the Sabres to be sellers. Dump what contracts they can and start rebuilding, again. Might even want to consider trading Miller. By the time this team is good enough to contend he will be on the downside. you are such an idiot
carpandean Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Problem is Whitney may be a scorer, but he is not moving from Carolina for more than the remainder of the season. He will be back with Carolina next season! Cullen is a nice center; penalty killer and can play physically. So, someone out there please tell me how letting Ottawa get a solid centermen to go with a lineup that has been kicking our tails for three plus years now is a good thing. He was being sarcastic. Nobody thinks that Ottawa getting Cullen was a good thing. As for Whitney, he's demanding a contract extension in order to waive his NTC, so if he is traded, he's not going to be back in Carolina next year. we have a cheap payroll. You do know that their cap his is over $55 million and their salary is close to that with bonuses?
shrader Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 No, I agree, do that and you might just LAND one. Darcy's a genius. *puke* So by telling a random Sabre fan in a bar that he is thinking about picking up a certain player makes it far more likely that he will find the appropriate return for a trade? That's mind numbing right there. What he says or doesn't say to the random fan means absolutely nothing.
deluca67 Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Schoop or the Bull Dog today made it sound like we should have traded Sekara for Cullen. I think that is insane. Yes, he is a good player, but look at what our future defense looks like. Talender and Lydman are gone after next season, I am assuming. Lydman IMO is an excellent player, blocks shots, makes good plays, etc. Our Captin can't skate, makes mistakes all the time and just looks old. Montedore is shot. The three kids we have back there are all that will be left next year. They are the future. Trading anyone of them would have been suicide, and just for a rent a player? Maybe Ottawa thinks Cullen puts them over the top and they can win it all with him. Ok, maybe he does, but does Cullen really put us over the top? I don't think so. Is that the new catch phrase, "over the top?" Is that the standard now? What happened to just making the team better? I just love that suddenly at trade deadline time people are agreeing with my assessment of the roster, which I had before the season started. They went from being a "solid contender" with "solid team defense" to "nobody can help this team." It really cracks me up. :w00t:
tom webster Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 And as soon as Ottawa trades away a young defensemen Chris Campoli goes down for a month with an injury. This trade might hurt them Please, Ottawa will go out and get a veteran or two before the deadline. There is no guarantee that Sekera will ever be more then a five , six or seven defenseman. His upside is a 3 or 4 but who knows. You have to give something up if you expect to get anything. Having Cullen instead of Kennedy is a huge upgrade and allows Kennedy to slide down to the fourth line or maybe the press box until he is ready for a bigger role.
nfreeman Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 You keep planning for the future while other teams go for it this year. Why would Carolina want Rivet or Montador? You have to give up something to get something. You are going to keep Sekera because you hope that he suddenly gets the fact he is supposed to play defense? Guys like him are e3asily replacable. Cullen makes them better and thats all that really should matter when you are talking about trading a guy that may develop into a number 4 or 5 defenseman. I wouldn't have traded Sekera (or Butler) for Cullen either. When I look at Sekera I see a guy who is likely to turn into another Campbell in 2 years or so. This team is the result of one misstep after another with one admission to mistake after another. And no, it is not a well stocked farm system. There is not one sure fire top 6 forward in the organization although guys like Tropp and Adam may surprise. Well, you've gotten a little gloomy. Ennis is lighting it up in the AHL, isn't he? And what about the savage beast Kassian? Problem is Whitney may be a scorer, but he is not moving from Carolina for more than the remainder of the season. He will be back with Carolina next season! Cullen is a nice center; penalty killer and can play physically. So, someone out there please tell me how letting Ottawa get a solid centermen to go with a lineup that has been kicking our tails for three plus years now is a good thing. Face the facts...TG is not going to spend to win......He purchased this team most of us can only hope to raise the capital to help Kelly and Company buy the bills. Which means maybe we need t be worried about the Sabres. We have solid gate turnout on this team. Our Jersey was one of the hottest sellers for 2 seasons and we have a cheap payroll. TG is lame duck owner and is not committed to winning. Larry Quinn is not committed to winning. Lindy Ruff and Regeir should choose to go elsewhere and use their skills. This post is almost 100% nonsense. you are such an idiot Respond to the substance of the post or keep quiet, but name-calling just wastes everyone's time. Having Cullen instead of Kennedy is a huge upgrade and allows Kennedy to slide down to the fourth line or maybe the press box until he is ready for a bigger role. I agree with this but still wouldn't have given up Sekera.
