notwoz Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 I just want to see an honest effort from this team. Is that asking too much?
SabresFan526 Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 The lead in the Northeast is officially gone. Ottawa gets 2 points tonight and the Sabres get 1. That is absolutely pathetic. The ending was just so so sickening. I'm not sure Sekera would have made a better play as he's very good at fanning on the puck. I don't really know what can be done. It's just impossible for Darcy to change the entire bottom 4 defenseman. There are only 2 defenseman that are good on this team, and right now the entire bottom 4 are collectively playing horrible. What's Lindy to do when the team is playing this lousy? The PK which was supposedly a strength has now given up two PP goals in two of the last 3 games (2 to Columbus and 2 tonight). I just hope they come back from the Olympic Break rejuvenated because it is looking likely that the Sabres may not get out of February with a single win. They are now 0-4-2 with one more game left against San Jose. A 9-3-3 January is being followed by this awful record, and the division lead has evaporated. I really don't know what can be done because it's just not possible to ship out all the guys that need to be shipped out right now.
CallawaySabres Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Anger has now turned to laughter....just like it did 5 years ago with the Bills. Is it too much to ask to at least like the teams that play in this city. Two incredibly boring and PREDICTABLE teams year after year after year. There are so many players on this team that need to go. Bring in Mcnabb for the Bills and give away the ranch if you have to. Get rid of Stafford, Roy and whoever else the bullet hits in that barrel of fish and call me when it's over.
R_Dudley Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Lindy had to know Montador would lose an edge. What a coach. No Sekera was playing better than Montador has for several games. Why put someone in who is playing like one of your worst defenseman. That is a bad decision in my view given his latest chirping about he'll play 1 guy for 30 minutes if he is playing well.
Lethbridge Broncos Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Weber has arrived. He should have been in this game. He has developed enough now and is ready. Butler, Montador and Lydman are just bruttal lately. MAybe they double shift Myers or Tallinder. Up front Ellis is not cutting it. And McCarthur is confussed. Stafford has shown no further devlopment whatsoever. HE hurts the roy vanek line. Hecht was great. Gaustad was great. Miller was fine. Everyone else was so-so. All in all, they need Moreau and Staois. Then dress Weber, hope Kaleta can take Mairs spot and seriously consider dealing Stafford away for a draft pick (I would take an early 2nd rounder for him).   I can't help it, just the thought of this statement kills me. If any one seriously believes Mantodar and Butler are better than Weber and Gragnani your kidding yourselves. This is just painful to watch. Make the changes already.
Dave Dryden Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 No Sekera was playing better than Montador has for several games. Why put someone in who is playing like one of your worst defenseman. That is a bad decision in my view given his latest chirping about he'll play 1 guy for 30 minutes if he is playing well. Have you seen Sekera lately? He scores, but his giveaways are horrible. Did you watch him against Ottawa and Carolina--he was directly responsible, in part, for those losses.
R_Dudley Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 If you have watched the Sabres since the beginning of December then you would quickly realize that this team doesn't set up very well in the offensive zone and that Miller has been saving our butts. Now that Miller has been playing great but not elite, you see what you truly have with this team. It has been like this all year, but now that teams are skating harder and hitting harder, the Sabres have not increased their intensity or their desperation. I also find it interesting that Darcy comes out and says we have to grow from within and then team has fallen apart. +1
Stoner Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Good thing the big bad blizzard took out SDS' Internet. Only good thing about the ending is that Montador didn't hatchet his goalie.
SarasotaSabre Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Get YOUR head in the game - Montador was not "doing dipsy doodles behind his net"? WTF are you talking about? He lost an edge skating out from behind the net, plain & simple. This is kind of weird, unlucky stuff which happens when a team is in a prolonged slump - nothing is going right for us right now. I don't understand how a veteran guy could do something like that knowing how badly we needed those points. Clear the freaking puck...why is Montador of all people doing dipsy doodles behind his net like he is Tim Connolly or Brian Campbell? Get your head in the freaking game....inexcusable...
ParkMeadow Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Hitting? You're talking hitting? How about Gleason pancaking Hecht near the end of regulation? When's the last time you saw a Sabre lay one on anybody like that? Anyone else think they miss Kaleta A LOT?
theend Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Weber has arrived. He should have been in this game. He has developed enough now and is ready. I'm all for giving the kids from Portland a shot. "Beginning with a 6-3 win over Rochester at HSBC Arena in Buffalo on Nov. 12, the Pirates show an impressive 22-6-5-2 record in their last 34 games, good for a .750 points percentage in that span." http://theahl.com/ahl-weekly-pirates-eyeing-playoffs-p140617 Only problem is...we have to dump players to bring them up. And I mean DUMP, for draft picks or minor leaguers at best. Anyone coming back our way gives us no roster room.
sabresnutinphoenix Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Okay that's on Lindy. You sat Sekera who by the way is in the Olympics for Montador. Brillant coaching move there Lindy. Best thing to do at this point is either make a huge deal or fire Lindy...
R_Dudley Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Have you seen Sekera lately? He scores, but his giveaways are horrible. Did you watch him against Ottawa and Carolina--he was directly responsible, in part, for those losses. Yes I did, how many NHL games has he played? Who do you think has more upside potential at this point in their career ? What would help us more in the long run? Hey it's just my opinion so if you don't like it...
theend Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 +1 This is where I disagree...it hasn't been this way all year. I've watched nearly every game. The team is distinctly different the past month than they were the previous 40-ish games. Are they capable of getting back to that level? That, I'm not so sure of, but they WERE playing at a high level before.
Fizz315 Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Way to faceplant Montador and blow the damn game, and Buttler is just washed up... Don't even get me started.

What would help us more in the long run? Hey it's just my opinion so if you don't like it... Right now, they just want to win a game, one. The long run is a secondary consideration right now. But after Tallinder and Myers, the rest of the D in and out of the lineup is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic right now.

That, I'm not so sure of, but they WERE playing at a high level before. In his post he said from December. That is about where I do agree they were winning games but they were not the better team for the majority of a lot of those games. The playing in spurts of hockey we have all seen before were showing there they just had the lead's and were holding them. Remember that not too distant memory of a team that never lost when in the lead in the 3rd.

But after Tallinder and Myers, the rest of the D in and out of the lineup is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic right now. And Montadors play in his last 10 games has helped that how ? From my point of view at least sekera off sets his mistakes with some offense.

sabresnutinphoenix Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 3 PM tommorrow is the trade deadline before the Olympics....Darcy..hello...Darcy...hello...
Dave Dryden Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 And Montadors play in his last 10 games has helped that how ? From my point of view at least sekera off sets his mistakes with some offense. Fair enough.
theend Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 3 PM tommorrow is the trade deadline before the Olympics....Darcy..hello...Darcy...hello... I know this won't be the most popular viewpoint, but if Darcy truly believes the answers lie within, then prove it. Dump underperforming players for draft picks, and call up Ennis, Gerbe, Mancari, and Weber. Call up Enroth and let him back up Miller, and give him 1 game per week. I don't think anyone has any illusions of this team making a cup run this year. So let's get our youngsters up and throw them into the fire...what do we have to lose?
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Just got back from the game what a terrible 3rd period and what the hell is Mantador even doing on the ice in overtime. He and Rivet played like turds tongith

This is the only answer I've seen that makes absolute sense. There is no reason to hold back now, bring in the youngsters and let them get their feet wet.
