Lori Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/brian-burkes-son-killed-in-auto-accident/article1458392/ Thought y'all should know. RIP Brendan, and thoughts to the Burke family.
carpandean Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 That is terrible for his family. RIP. Side note: did they really have to mention that he "made headlines" (in this day and age, is it really that big of deal any more?) by coming out earlier this year? Not only was it completely irrelevant to the story, but it also put a scene from Heathers into my head that, under the circumstances, is in terribly poor taste.
Eleven Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 That is horrible. I'll never have good feelings for the Leaves, but I sure feel for Brian Burke right now. And I hope he has a friendship with Bob Gainey; they may help each other a bit. (That sucked, too.)

Not only was it completely irrelevant to the story, but it also put a scene from Heathers into my head that, under the circumstances, is in terribly poor taste. I was grateful they added that actually because I remember reading about him earlier but I didn't know if it was that son or the other one. It helps identify and spark memory of people. It's like when an actor die you list what he was in. I have no problem with it. This is very sad. RIP I wouldn't know but it's said the worst pain in the world is outliving your child.
RR61 Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 T Side note: did they really have to mention that he "made headlines" (in this day and age, is it really that big of deal any more?) by coming out earlier this year? Wouldn't you want your personal epitaph to say you lived with honesty and truthfulness? It was a big deal simply because of who his father is and the pervasive homophobia in pro sports. You're right -- if it was a perfect world and no one cared about anyone's sexual preferences it wouldn't be news. But it's not a perfect world -- it takes people like Brendan Burke to change it. OK, I'm off my soap box now.

NowDoYouBelieve Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 This is just terrible, RIP Brendan and best wishes to the Burke family. I've lost older family members, but I can't even imagine what it's like to lose a child.
