What a poor effort tonight

I hope these two points that were thrown away tonight don't come back to haunt the Sabres at the end of the season, if there was a statement game it was tonigt, I thought they come out and blow the Canes out right from the drop of the puck, a last place team with six total road victories this year the perfect team to take your frustrations out from last game, but that didn't happen. If Darcy thinks he has enough in Portland to get the team ready for the Playoffs I don't see it. I would bring Ennis or Gerbe up and shake things up.Time for Roy or Pommerville to watch a few games from the press box. Why did they dress seven D-men tonight? If I was Ruff I would come back with Miller tomorrow against the Jackets I think they are that desperate for two points. The look on Ruffs face at the end of the game said it all. They need to win the last three before the Olympic break, and that's a tall order with San Jose as one of the three teams.

What we've been seeing lately is the team that Darcy built. It's the realization of all our unspoken fears (sorry to be so melodramatic here). Here's a team that was embarassed in consecutive games by potential playoff opponents (assuming they make the playoffs). You'd think, as you said, that they would come out breathing fire and taking out their frustrations on a cellar dweller. But no. They come out soft and lay an egg.

I disagree about Miller. I wouldn't play him, I'd send him to the press box to cool his heels until after the Olympic break, play Lalime into the ground, and force the team to decide whether they want to win.

From what I see, this team has no leadership, no grit, no toughness and not much desire.

Darcy says he'll improve from within. That's probably because he knows he has no choice -- no other team wants what he has to offer.

I'm all for starting Lalime and let him play until he loses a game. The message needs to be sent to Miller to wake up.

Play him for three straight, regardless of the outcome.

Don't care if Ryan likes "a heavy workload", his game obviously doesnn't.

Lindy showing his ineptness with the goalie situation yet again.

Yep, good old Lindy. Take a hot goalie and ride him to death. Unfortunately, he apparently has no trust in Lalime and would have played him more if he had.

It's too bad Darcy didn't get a better backup goaltender in the offseason.

The whole team looks like it is mentally ready for the Olympic break. Even Myers, who has been the rock of the defense, was taking dumb penalties and getting out of position on D last night.

Maybe some fresh blood on the team wouldn't hurt.

I've always been intrigued by the "you win, you play" method of goalie rotation. It can definitely be a good spark for goalies. Then again, if neither wins, you're in bad shape.

well said. the fish rots from the head down. Regier has created a team in his own image: passive, soft, small, timid, etc.

Yeah, I like that approach too, and yes you're in trouble if both are losing.

Remember the Biron/Noronen tandem back in the day? Talk about having goaltender issues.

Heck, look at Philly. Only that's different because it's hilarious, but the fundementals remain the same

I think the Olympics for NHLers is a bad idea. You're asking a guy to switch allegiances for another team right in the middle of the season and some guys can't handle that.

However some guys like Hecht seem to be using this pre-Olympic time to tune up for the Olympics so we're getting the beneficiary of his better play of late.
