SabresBillsFan Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 I know I'm sure alot of people don't want to start guessing what's going to happen with both of these players since they are unrestricted at the end of this season. So what do you think people should Regier do? Should he keep both of them or try to trade a pick or prospect for another veteran because I don't see us going after any big name offensive help which this team desperately needs. Since Regier has been in Buffalo he won't make a blockbuster trade to shake up this organization and acquire a big name talent. I would start working on getting picks and unload Lydman at the deadline and move Sekera into his spot. This team has a great young talent in Myers and Ennis when he gets here but Darcy needs to keep working on picking up draft picks since this is the route this team takes and work on getting players in the system that can help this team for the years to come. That's just my take. Now onto Hecht. Yes Hecht has been playing alot better than he did last year and finally earning his paycheck but do you unload him since his value is getting better if any team wants him? I want to hear what people would do with both of these players!

gregkash Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Lydman or Tallinder I have a feeling will be traded at the deadline. Which is a shame, because I feel like they're both very good defensemen.. but we just have too many.
SabresBillsFan Posted January 29, 2010 Author Report Posted January 29, 2010  Hecht is a UFA after the 2011/2012 season... Even more reason he should go! I would rather have Ennis up instead.

Tallinder's been playing excellent since being paired with Myers.

I have to agree Lydman should be out the door. Believe me when I say this I'm a die-hard Sabres fan and want them to win the cup sometime in my lifetime but this team as good as they have been playing isn't good enough to beat top notched teams in a seven game series. Shoot they can't even beat Ottawa and they have been real good of late. The teams I'm talking about are San Jose, Chicago, Washington and Pittsburgh. This team needs a big name offensive player in the worst way but Darcy will never make that move so if that's the case trade some veterans and load up on picks and start building up the system.

I can't envision a scenario where Jochen is traded at the deadline. As was previously stated, his contract is not up. He may move in the offseason, which I still doubt but he's not going anywhere this season. As far as wanting Ennis on the big club. I'd like to see him in Sabres gear as well, but I think he needs some seasoning and a little more muscle on his frame. Give him some time in the "A", maybe move someone in the offseason to make room for him if he's ready.
inkman Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 This team needs a big name offensive player in the worst way... First of all, why? Secondly, who are you willing to give up? Thirdly, who is available? Kovolchuck? No thanks. "Big name" offensive players are rarely traded, and usually only when they aren't a very big name. You can cite Thorton, Yashin, Mogilny, and the like but there is a common thread with those players...
LabattBlue Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Going on DR's track record and where the Sabres are today in the standings, my guess is that he stands pat or is a minor buyer at the deadline. Sekera and Paetsch have been nailed to the bench for over a month now(except for the last game), yet I am supposed to believe that Lindy would be okay with one of them being in his top 6 come playoff time? I'd be shocked if Lydman or Tallinder are traded unless a top 6 dman is coming back in a separate trade.
shrader Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 I'd be shocked if Lydman or Tallinder are traded unless a top 6 dman is coming back in a separate trade. If they try to bring in a true powerplay QB, one of them will more than likely have to go to make space. Obviously someone on the blueline would need to be sent packing since we currently have 8 back there.

Unless the PP QB is lacking in defensive prowess, which in that case they could use him for the most part as a PP specialist with a very rare shift on the 4th line or blueline.

Why not get something for him rather losing him for nothing. This team is good enough to make playoffs but not good enough to win the cup at least that's my opinion. Miller and Myers is the main reason why this team is doing as good as its doing. Miller has been playing like MVP goalie this year and has kept them in many games. How many 1 goal victories do we have this year compared to other years?
LabattBlue Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 This team is good enough to make playoffs but not good enough to win the cup at least that's my opinion. I agree with you that I don't think the Sabres are ready to challenge for the Cup, but it would be tough to take away their arguably best defenseman in his own zone(blocking shots, playing physical, etc...). I know he is having some brain farts when the puck is on his stick, but he is the one defenseman I'd like to have on the team come playoff time.
shrader Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Unless the PP QB is lacking in defensive prowess, which in that case they could use him for the most part as a PP specialist with a very rare shift on the 4th line or blueline. That slash thing is done. They only use it for mediocre players who aren't good enough to fille one set role. If they bring someone in, it won't be that kind of guy.

shrader Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Do you want Corvo as part of your top 6? I don't, but I wouldn't mind him on the PP as a 7th dman. There is no space anywhere on this team for any part-time role player. It goes completely against the way they play the game.

If Peters could play 2 to 3 minutes a game for several years, why can't a PP specialist play 4 to 5 minutes on the PP per game? Or does it just go against the way they play the game this year and not past years?
novascotiaguy Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 I got a feeling Webber and a 3 round pick for Ray Whitney not sure why I think this but got a feeling.

They are much closer to rolling the entire roster evenly as they've ever been. They're not going to go away from that now, especially for a 7th defenseman.
LabattBlue Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 I got a feeling Webber and a 3 round pick for Ray Whitney not sure why I think this but got a feeling. Out of the 8 million blueliners the Sabres have drafted in the last 5-6 years or so, Weber and McNabb are the only two that show any signs of being the physical presence they have needed AND STILL NEED on the blueline. Give them Persson, Kostka, Gragnani, Biega, Crawford, Southorn, Generous, etc... instead.
wonderbread Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 I got a feeling Webber and a 3 round pick for Ray Whitney not sure why I think this but got a feeling. Ray will take more than weber and a 3rd. Think Butler and a 2nd.
LabattBlue Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Ray will take more than weber and a 3rd. Think Butler and a 2nd. I'll pass on both offers. This is exactly why Darcy should pass on any rental temptations at the deadline. It is highway robbery by the team that is selling.

I'll gladly pass on Ellis or Mair come playoff time if it means the PP can be improved to the point where it might help the team win a Cup.

I'm so sick of getting guys like Moore at the dead line This team has a chance so why not risk something Dr plays it to safe were has that got buffalo. Time to take a risk.
LabattBlue Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 I agree but is he not the kind of player the Sabres need. I don't know. 37 year old(will turn 38 in May) undersized, skilled forward(I thought we already have the market cornered on this type of player). How much of his success is a direct result of playing with a center like Staal(I'm going out on a limb here that the two of them have spent a lot of time playing together over the last 5 seasons)?
