NowDoYouBelieve Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I'm an optimist...we're NOT winning this mofo. Mark my words. Anti-jinx! happy to eat my words
ThePebble19 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Dear Sabres, Good lookin' out. Sincerely, Your friends in the GDT
EdwardSauve Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 MILLER!!!!!!!! Queue Superman Music!!!
sabresnutinphoenix Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 now we play Boston on Friday...we need to play at the top of our game for that one!!
R_Dudley Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 OMG we win in a SO, I'll take it. It's been way too long since we 've been able to do that. Maybe a portent of better things yet to come..
NowDoYouBelieve Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Part of me wanted to see Connolly break the consecutive points record. Part of me is glad that the record still belongs to Perrault...I'd rather see the next truly great Sabres forward (whoever he may be) break that record.
ThePebble19 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I was doing what I have dubbed "The Quiet Scream/Celebration" during the shootout. You still run around, celebrate, and scream like an idiot, but make very little noise by using a screaming whisper. Anyone with sleeping little kids knows what I'm talkin' bout.
SabresFan526 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Good to see the Sabres get back into the win column. A very important win against the Devils. Miller was outstanding tonight, and finally the Sabres won a game in the shootout. Hecht made a great move on Brodeur. I would have liked to see Connolly continue the point scoring streak. But, I think we've learned that Connolly is seriously a good player, especially when he's healthy. I was not in favor of re-signing him after 2006, but he's won me over based on the end of last year and so far this year. At $4.5 million/year, not necessarily a bargain, but he seems to be proving his worth. Well, even though one streak has ended, another streak continues. The Sabres are currently 8-0-3 in their last 11 games at home. Clearly, home ice has been very good for the Sabres recently. Let's keep that streak going on Friday. Good win, and a nice way to come back after a mediocre road trip. By the way, notice how the Sabres won tonight when their own production crew showed up for the broadcast? That puts the Sabres at 3-0-1 in the last 4 games when the Sabres production crew broadcasts the games. They were 0-3-1 on the road trip without the Sabres production crew. I'm going to continue beating this drum until the Sabres get a regulation loss with the MSG production crew.
Stoner Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I like this radio play by play guy. After he ran out of material, it got better. :)
Stoner Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Someone should have punched Langenbrunner right in the friggin mouth. Paging DeLuca.
shrader Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 That was one awful game to watch, but as a team, it's exactly what they needed.
Stoner Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I hate watching Devils hockey. They put you into a coma and then score on you.. Come on Sabres, one good shift.. I spit out my drink on that line. :worthy:

Brodeur went for the poke check and missed...solid move by Hecht, but Marty looked a lot more foolish than he actually was in that situation. Pretty uneventful game, but it always is with New Jersey. With the two best goalies in the world facing each other, I wouldn't have expected anything less than a shootout tied at 1. Glad we got the win!
R_Dudley Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Still plenty of area's for improvement but a wins a win and boy did we need it. I don't like giving them the loser point as we could have tried a bit harder to beat them at the end but I'm over it. Some things I saw. -Still way to many break out passes being allowed for 2 on 1's, 3 on 2's and of course the 1 on none for the goal. -Not sure why we are gambling d-men into the offense when we are up by a goal and not sure I like seeing these forwards trying unsuccessfully to play point or cover the wall allowing a lot of these breakdowns. -Still clueless PP -Maybe it's time Lindy to go back to some earlier season line combo's, specifcally Grier,Kennedy,Vanek, -Does Roy fall down when the other player's just look at him. -The tandem of Sekera and paestch other than a little rust did not really have any of the horrible breakdowns Tony and Steve have been treating us too and overall looked pretty solid. -Nice to see the players get SO shots on net and look like they've been there before. -Not to happy about that forearm elbow Captain america laid on his Olympic buddy albeit Miller may have embellished that just a little, not quite an oscar for best actor but maybe for a supporting role.
SarasotaSabre Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 glad we got a SO win, for sure - great for the team's spirits, I'm sure. One thing that bugs me though; the PA announcer at HSBC Arena sounds totally gay..."Joooochen Heeyeeecht". My spelling does not adequately describe how lame this guy is....listen to him - he is terrible.
NowDoYouBelieve Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Anybody watching Lindy's presser? He doesn't seem too happy with Clarke, made very sure to explicitly state that Macarthur was a HEALTHY scratch.
spndnchz Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 "Win. And win again." QFT. Margarita Friday approaching.
LabattBlue Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I felt like I was watching one of the recent late games. I just couldn't stay awake(I am a little under the weather) and missed most of the game except for the OT and the SO. I had absolutely no faith in the Sabres winning the SO(especially after Stafford missed) and was glad to see the end result. :)
Cereal Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Does EVERYONE really hate watching the Devils play? I was lovin' this game. (not that we didn't play some exciting games out west!) Back and forth, tough to score, really interesting to see how plays develop.... At the end of OT I started to get really psyched for the playoffs in awhile, wishing that we could see the rest of the game out in OT instead of a SO. Other than that, all I want to say is that I love when our fourth line gets 40-60 seconds of attack on a shift, looks like Ellis and Kaleta (and Paetsch!) are workin' their butts off and having a lot of fun out there.

Anyone with sleeping little kids knows what I'm talkin' bout. My 4 month old still isn't sleeping through the night. I've totally internalized my celebrations. I can get up to the full 10 out of 10 "we won" excitement without even blinking... literally. Hopefully by the playoffs, i'll be able to have one of your celebrations!
repster Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 These guys were gassed tonight, but the managed to have enough energy and Ryan Miller back on track. The two points stop the bleeding and give them a little breathing room from the surging Sens. 7 point difference again is comfortable. I hope Pittsburgh can take stop Ottawa's momentum tomorrow night. I think that Vanek, Roy, Stafford look like shadows of themselves out there lately. I really wonder sometimes if the system just isn't conducive to maximizing their offensive talents. Vanek especially seems lost and almost looks like he needs a change of scenery. What has happened to this guy? In Atlanta, I'm sure he would light it up. I wonder if Kovalchuk would lose his scoring prowess if he played for the Sabres under their system. At least the Pominville, Connolly, Hecht line has been decent along with the traditional non-scoring lines and they're generally having a solid year winning close games driven primarily by Miller. This post is starting to sound like tonights game...I'm out. Long live RJ. Can't wait for Friday. When it's his time to go, Dunleavy or Hamilton would be fine with me.
