nobody Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Let's get that extra point in OT so we don't have to worry about who Lindy will pick in the SO.
Iron Crotch Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 I have no confidence in our shooters.
Kristian Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Vanek has officially turned into Dave Andreychuk. Good PP goal, slow beyond belief.
wjag Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Kopitar: :censored: Stafford: :worthy: Johnson: Missed Pominville: Missed Brown: :censored: Connolly: Missed
Iron Crotch Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Ugh. We officially suck at shootouts. :wallbash:
nobody Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Connolly can't lift the puck and another SO loss.
Kristian Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Pominville's attempt was just laughable, I mean at least try something to make the goalie work for the save. Not his fault though, he's got a decent shot but no moves.
Realist Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 I asked earlier in this thread, what is the problem with Miller in SO's lately, and that question still remains. In the past, he never gave up 2 out of 3. I guess the good thing is we got a point, but it only gets tougher the next two games.
Iron Crotch Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Seems other teams' shooters get the puck into the top corners (like Kotalik could do with regularity) and ours rarely do.
SabresFan526 Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 It's a good thing the Sabres have won a lot of games in regulation and OT this year because they are lousy in shootouts this year. I have no idea what it is, but they are lousy. Miller looks off this year in shootouts, he was really good last year, but lousy the year before. No idea what it is with him. The shooters are terrible. It makes me almost want to make a trade with the Rangers to get Kotalik back since he can't even get on the ice with the Rangers. He's a consistent healthy scratch. At least we'll get a shootout specialist who can improve the PP and score 20 goals. Aside from that he's pretty worthless, but he certainly brings two things missing from this team, shootouts and powerplay shot. Aside from Kotalik, this shootout situation is not looking good. I'll take the point though. Another entertaining game and Connolly continues his incredible hot streak. So, some positives to take away, but they need to fix the shootouts. The Sabres still have a big lead in the Northeast, but getting 2 points is going to be pretty important down the stretch for playoff positioning and home ice.
NowDoYouBelieve Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 6 out of 10 points (2-1-2) on the road trip so far, with two very difficult games to go. Not to mention, our first game in Buffalo after the roadie is against New Jersey. Ah well, take the point I suppose, and just give thanks that there are no shootouts in the playoffs.
rickshaw Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Miller seems to be an every other year type goalie when it comes to shootouts. This year, not good, last year good, the year before AWFUL, the year before good. It sucks they gave up a goal in the last minute of the 2nd. Those kill you, especially on the road. Myers and Tallinder were both minus 3. Yikes. Not a good night for the top pair. Hopefully they can get some points in the next 2, but it will be tough. Oh well, they got something on the road and they needed it.
carpandean Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Very entertaining game. I'm glad it went to OT, because both teams deserved a point. SOs still suck, though. Who wouldn't have wanted to see five more minutes of OT first? I know I would. Myers' Calder Trophy bid took an unfortunate hit tonight, dropping his +/- by 3. Being a defenseman, it's an uphill battle and things like that will play a big role.

The book on Miller this year is : He comes out too far to challenge, come in with some speed, go around him and make sure you get the puck up high. All three LA shooters tried variations of this, from what I saw. Not sure you can fault Myers and Tallinder though, the second goal comes after a loooong PK where Hecht fans on the puck in the neutral zone which would've allowed at least a partial change if he gets it down the ice. The third is Stafford losing out to Ryan Smyth, after the puck goes off a skate.

I think Miller needs to pokecheck some guys to keep them honest. I think he's too far back in his net on the shootout attempts and there is never a sign of the poke. He ends up too far in the net is what I'm saying. Poke check, poke check.
nucci Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 one assumes that the braintrust will eventually recognise the need for a scoring center who can win faceoffs.. hopefully it won't be when it's too late Right, because that type of player is always available and easy to acquire.
spndnchz Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Fairly happy I guess. Those are the points we used to lose. Exciting game to watch, no problems staying awake for that one. Can we please keep the puck it when it gets tossed back to the point? Kings kept those in all night. Rivet gets his first of the year, this should help him along. Pommers with his 300th consecutive game. Wow. Craig Ramsay had 776, holy sh!t.

Bingo...at least do something different. The entire SO against the Islanders, he played everything the same - seemed too deep in the net and the scorers deked him pretty easily. I don't remember the last time someone just shot the puck past him...it's all been forehand to backhand or vice versa. The announcer said it last night - Miller's strength is positioning and footwork more so than his athleticism. Once he gets out too far or back too deep in the crease, it doesn't seem like he's quick enough to recover.
LabattBlue Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 I fell asleep sometime in the second period with the score tied 2-2. Doesn't sound like I missed much. IMO...The Sabres need a win in one of the 2 remaining games on the trip for the trip to be considered successful.
