dick Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 It appears that Lalime is ineffective in the backup role. He appears to need work to stay sharp. Biron would look good now. I think we are one 40-50 goal scorer away from having a top club. Briere would be nice to have back.
shrader Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I think we should bring back every single ex-Sabre who is still active in the league. Just to play it safe, we should go after some that are now coaches at any level now too, guys like Cunneyworth, Houda, and Corkum.

Don't forget every NHL player from western NY, we need those guys too!

With less than 3 mill in cap space, are you suggesting trading Vanek for Briere? Maybe a package of Pominville and Tallinder? Maybe Roy and Hecht?

carpandean Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I have no problem with bringing in another top-six forward, but Briere is exactly the type of player that they need to be careful not to make the mistake of bringing in. He wasn't exactly known for his defensive play here, actually tending to be a bit of a cherry picker (including cheating out of the defensive zone instead of backchecking.) The Sabres would be better off with a 25-30 goal scorer who can play defense than a 40 goal scorer who cannot. Hard to say no to Marty, though, if for no other reason than he could be mic'd up every game.
novascotiaguy Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Buffalo is around tenth in nhl scoring and this is Patrick Lalime's first bad game in a while. Buffalo loses one game and we need this and we need that. Darcy will not bring in a 40 or 50 goal scorer and risk messing with the chemistry. This team is good very good and with the best goalie in the world they could go very deep in the playoffs.

He was one mediocre game and all of a sudden he is ineffective and needs to be replaced? I am fairly confident that he will play well enough over the next two months(7 or 8 starts) for the Sabres to end up with a nice playoff seeding and once there, he will be nailed to the bench just like any other backup come playoff time.

And let's be very clear on this one. Lalime was hung out to dry last night. He botched the breakaway, but I have a hard time blaming him for anything else. Hell, even on that breakaway, it's the team that allowed that chance in the first place.

As far as the 40-50 goal scorer....yeah most teams could use one.

Lalime has had a mediocre career which is why fans want a much better insurance policy to backup Miller. The Sabres would be foolish not to take a serious look at goaltenders who may become available from now to the trade deadline. If they can afford to get one is a another story. I would like to think they are well aware of the position Miller has this team in right now and will make a serious run this year which means making any deal possible to upgrade the roster.

I was about to reply about the same. The guy has had some good games every once in a while he lays a goose eggs. Yes I would like him to get a little more work sometimes Lindy makes interesting choices when to play him, personally I would played Lalime in Phx and Miller in Duck country

shrader Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Don't be greedy. Be happy with one for now. I won't stop until I have 23. Yeah, that's right, I want 40-50 from both of the goalies too.

BuffalOhio Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 This post should fit right here. I was reffing at Winterhurst the other day, and they have an elite senior league on Sunday nights. I'll pass on reffing it, because they MF you all over the ice as the ref, so it ain't worth it. Anyway, I noticed that the leading scorer in that league is Brian Holzinger. He's got something like 32 goals in 13 games. He's tearing it up! We should re-sign him! His brother Brad is doing well, too. Mike Wilson plays in it, too, and he's in the top 10 in scoring. Man, we could really use these guys! Leave the roster alone, except for maybe a scorer at the deadline as a rental. I love the way this team is built, except for the power play.

Mediocre career? Do you just make this stuff up? 199 wins, 35 shutouts, 21 playoff wins and a career sv. percentage over .9.

DeLuca's pissed at anything less than .99 Hell, he'd complain the Sabres could have taken the cup in 5 games instead of six.
JJFIVEOH Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Balanced scoring, great defense, winning games, minimized length of losing streaks............. who wants all that? I say TRADE THE WHOLE TEAM THEY ALL SUCK!!!:wallbash:

Lalime drew a STUPID penalty last night by giving a guy a shot to the boys. That made it 5 on 3. He lost his composure. He ate a goal as a result of a very long PK. Other than that stupid play, I'm okay with his play. Buffalo was overdue for that start and Anaheim was the perfect team to deliver it.
