Iron Crotch Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 44 shots by the Sabres. A shame our backup goalie couldn't stop anything in the first 10 minutes.

cdexchange Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Was the clock the enemy or Pomminstein? Neither, it was Pominville. :death:
nobody Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Can't get anywhere in the last 50 seconds. Lalime is thankful for that Hecht goal.
Two or less Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Brian Harrington from the Buffalo News said it best... in the past 2 years, this would have been a 8-2 loss. Not this year. Not this team. This team is different. Ducks played the prevent trap defense for a long time, and it tired out the Sabres who played last night. All in all, good come back, good game, besides the first 20 minutes. Too bad they don't get any points but thankfully we are not fighting for 8th like in previous seasons of this Lalime game could have been disastrous.

And this is worse; not only did we not get the two points, but Miller got no rest either. Great game to watch though. I don't know what it is but I just hate the Ducks. I think it's just the way that they look. Not the Uniforms, the players. They just all look like cocky douchebags to me.
darksabre Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I guess the good thing is that Miller didn't really have to make a lot of saves in relief of Lalime. He'll probably be fine. I almost turned the game off, but that almost comeback was fun to watch. Total domination in the 2nd. I can live with it.

LOL yeah i don't know what it is either but i can't stand the Ducks. And you're right, it will be interesting to see what Ruff does with the goalies. I doubt he plays Miller for the rest of the west trip. I think he'll go with Lalime pretty soon again.

Methinks Sabres are further along in their tweaking and adjusting for the final chapters in the 09/10 SC run. Tonight's game provides plenty of circumstantial evidence supporting my prediction of last season that the Sabres are going to win it all this year. Yeah, sure they miscalculated late in the game JP and TC but that is part of the offensive mindset as well it should be. As usual, RM played a great game and does NOT deserve the loss!!! Lalime should seriously consider periodic PP tune ups because the Ducks took advantage of the fact that he's NOT at the top of his game. He could be with a more rigorous schedule!!! At the end of the 1st bunch of folks were like I'm outta here to which I said I wouldn't count these Sabres out yet. They did NOT disappoint! Even the Duck's feed were in awe of the Sabres aptitude and skill! Very importantly for the Sabres they didn't get sucked into a goon squad scrimmage! It certainly won't be the last time other goon squads may try!!! GO BUFFALO SABRES!!!
Calvin Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 ugh. can we trade for marty now? So Patty Lalime had 4 very good games and then this stinker, and now people want him gone. Is that where we're setting the bar, 1 bad one out of every 5 games? I mean there's a reason why he's the backup and not the starter. Besides, all these people campaigning for Marty - his stats have been miserable this year, what makes you think he'll come here and suddenly all will be well again? If we traded and got a forward or a d-man who's having a bad season elsewhere, there would be uproar on this board - but Marty is immune to all that because he's been here before? Bull #%^$#!!
inkman Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 They just all look like cocky douchebags to me. I'd like my team to come across that way. LOL yeah i don't know what it is either but i can't stand the Ducks. It's because they represent the exact antithesis of the Sabres. Big, mean, nasty and willing to skate through you to win a game. ugh. can we trade for marty now? How many of those goals were his fault? One, maybe?
LabattBlue Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Game thoughts... - I mentioned this during the game...I would have left Lalime in the game and let Miller get the rest so we could start the remaining 3 games of the roadie. Even though the Sabres made a nice comeback, the odds are slim that a team on the road is going to come out with a point when trailing 4-0(especially to a quality team). - 3 PP chances to tie the game and no results. The 3rd PP in particular was horrible. - The silver lining in the loss...hopefully Kennedy gets back in the lineup. I really don't think his play was all that bad prior to the benching. - Despite the 3 point night in the previous game, Vanek's confidence level is low. On the breakaway, he got in way too tight and made Hiller's job easy. - What was up with the "we have our heads up our ######" start to the game? - All of a sudden, this road trip could go south fast. They really need the 2 points against the Kings, because the SJ and VAN games are going to be tough. GO SABRES!

Stoner Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 So, waddaya think Lindy is going to say in the dressing during this intermission. Will he use any nouns? I wonder how often a coach goes off in the lockerroom. Many times in the past, in similar situations, the players and/or Lindy have said not much needed to be said. It's one of the great old wives tales in sports. On the postgame show, Brian Koziol speculated that Gaustad, Rivet, Grier or Ruff must have said something really inspirational after one period. I just laughed.
Stoner Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Did they really make the ice girl clean off the blood? C'mon Anahiem. Very disturbing, yet curiously arousing. Those girls are gamers, let me tell you. "Chyeah, like I don't shovel blood after our sorority parties, seriously."
Stoner Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I have to agree. He hits the ice a lot (I think he skates on dull blades, because he hits the ice untouched more than any player I ever have seen), and he dived as a young player, but he hasn't for a while, and this was not a dive. Don't want the call? Simple; don't slash, a-hole. You don't have to dive to get a diving penalty.

Wat you fail to mention is that the "1" out of the "5" has been the norm throughout Lalime's career not the "4 very good games." Lalime is a average backup goalie. The Sabres should be looking to improve there. It could be Biron or someone else. They do need to take a really strong look at this. Especially, if the Sabres can build such a point buffer in the Division where they can sit Miller on a regular basis over the final month. It would great to put a goalie out there who can give you a more consistent chance to win those games.
Ch0rt Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 It would great to put a goalie out there who can give you a more consistent chance to win those games. Not to mention the unthinkable . . . If Miller gets injured; what then?
