wonderbread Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Darcy better get ready to pony up some cash for Myers. 10x4.
gregkash Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 It's going to be interesting to see how much Myers is worth. He has Chara's Size with Boyle's skating ability.
tom webster Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Might want to edit there to their. Myers contract can't be re-negotiated for another year. The whole landscape could change by then.

Agreed, look at Butler last year and then this year. Myers does look like elite talent though, and should hold up his play even in his sophomore year.
MattPie Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Heh, the article says Matt Barnaby was pushing for Myers. :) Myers is pretty good this season, making the 'full' All-Star team or even the under-25 starters, but I'm not sure he's top-2 in the east. Speaking of contract, provided Myers doesn't regress next season, what do you offer him? Does anyone think he'd take a 10/$5-6m contract, or will his agent tell him to sit tight and get $8m/yr?
LabattBlue Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Agreed, look at Butler last year and then this year. I don't think there is much difference in Butler's play between last year and this year. He is very shaky at times with the puck and doesn't play physical.

Except for Miller, DR's never given out more than a 4 year deal to anyone. He thinks players should always be playing for their contract and signing them longer term only makes them slacky players. I'd see him offering a Pominville type deal. Extending him before he plays his last season to a 4 year deal.

tom webster Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Do U think Myers will get a 5-6 year deal? Myers can't get anything new till July 1st, 2011. The whole landscape can change by then. Also, as I have said before, as much as Myers has astounded everyone, there is no guarantee that he will become the Norris candidate that we all hope he will be.

But let's assume: 1) He continues at this level or slightly improves 2) For the sake of argument salaries in 11-12 are like today How much? And given the above is he a lifetime Sabre like Phaneuf in Calgary or a 4 year everywhere like Chara? Not just directed at TW.
FogBat Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 My biggest fear is that DR lets Myers become a UFA and we get nothing in return (shades of Drury and Briere). I don't think he'd do that and that he may have learned his lesson, but we never know.

Letting your smallish, injury prone, aging, extrememly fortunate to have played in the 'new NHL' forwards leave is one thing. Having a once in a frachise lifetime, possible Norris candidate, teenage phenom looking you straight in the face is quite another. Stranger things have happened but I'll bet my left nut he's a Sabre for the next decade or two.

Yeah, as much as I love Myers, I'm still leary that he could turn out to be Ralph Sampson. Amazing grace and fluidity for any sized player, but ultimately he does not really play to his rather unique size.

I'm going to throw out a word that inky and spndnchz are all too familiar with: premature.

Anyone else notice Tyler getting a little fiesty last night with Hartnell and the bunch? Maybe it's the West Coast swing that has him fired up (due to proximity to home, or the more rugged style of play) but if he infuses more of that into his game...

However - and this is probably due the last two years' disappointment - I did get a sick feeling in my stomach that he was going to give them a lengthy 5-on-3 for that retaliatory cross-check. Probably should have been a penalty, but he looked pissed ... and me likey the pissed off Myers.

Is there some new Hartnell I'm not aware of other than the one in Philly who badly needs a haircut?

inkman Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I think he meant Upshall. Indeed. Not sure why I made the gaff...
