sactobillsfan Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 I've noticed that MSGhd is channel 638-1 but the game is not lit up indicating that I can watch it. Does anyone know if I have do something special to watch the HD feed? I'm sick of watching in standard definition but won't sacrifice listening to Jeanerrette. Thanks folks.

sactobillsfan Posted January 16, 2010 Author Report Posted January 16, 2010 Jeanerette isn't the issue i'm just wondering if 638-1 will be available to center ice subscriber at some point.

MSG does not provide the HD feed to DirectTV Center Ice subscribers, so unless you live in Buffalo you're out of luck. I'm not sure about Center Ice on cable systems outside of Buffalo. If I didn't need Direct TV for the Bills games I would switch over to cable in a second.

MSG HD feeds aren't available on Center Ice - period, whether you're on Satellite, Cable, or Telco. It's a NHL/MSG Issue and negotiations are "on going" according to Bettman. There's a group on DBS Talk (Status of MSG HD) that have been following things pretty carefully. In short, don't bet on it happening anytime soon unfortunately.
UncleWally Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Directv..........What are we going to do when the playoffs roll around and we have no versus??
JJFIVEOH Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Directv..........What are we going to do when the playoffs roll around and we have no versus?? If all else fails, you can get NHL GameCenter. They usually have a special offer once playoff time rolls around. Granted you gotta watch it on your comp but it's better than nothing. I watch all the games on GC and besides the occasional MSG feed, the picture quality isn't that bad. Tend to get a lot of out-of-town HD feeds and the quality for that is better than you might think, I hook my laptop up to the TV instead of watching it on the comp. The streaming HD feeds from the comp to the TV is actually much better quality than watching standard def games directly on the TV.

Sabretip Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Directv..........What are we going to do when the playoffs roll around and we have no versus?? I think 80% of all hockey fans are worried about the exact same thing. Just in my area, every sports bar that televises games seems to have DirecTV over a cable or Dish network. I watch the Versus games on www.channelsurfing.net but, like anything on the Internet, the broadcasts are subject to pauses due to high volume of web traffic in prime time. One thing I plan to do if the Versus/DirecTV dispute goes on through the playoffs, is ask DirecTV for refund. They were very willing to give me $50 on my account towards not being able to see any of the regular season games on Versus - I suspect they'll do the same when I vent about missing the final two rounds of the playoffs.
JJFIVEOH Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Are Versus games on there? Versus games are not televised on GC here but only because we have Versus on U-Verse. Usually GC will not televise any games that are broadcast locally, but I'm not sure if that only works for local feeds. When you log into GC they know your IP so the broadcasts you would get would depend on your location. Being that Versus is not available in your area, GC might have the feed...... I'm not sure. Here's the link to their help section, the phone numbers on there. The customer service is pretty good. http://gamecenter.nhl.com/nhlgc/help.htm

True - Game Center and Center Ice are useless if you are in the Sabres territory and want to watch Sabres games. Versus broadcasts are not included in Center Ice and Game Center since those are national broadcasts (same with games on the NHL Network or NBC)
JJFIVEOH Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 If AT&T U-Verse is available in any of your locations, I highly recommend it. I had DirectTV for over a decade and got sick and tired of it to the point I was willing to sacrifice the football package. For what they're charging now I'd rather invest my money in the local bar/restaurant and watch it there. U-Verse has got a great channel lineup and great HD quality. If you bundle it up with internet service it's a pretty good deal. At least you know you'll get NHL channel and Versus.

No offense, but if the dispute ain't resolved between DirecTV and Versus, I am not hunkering down in front of my computer every damn night to watch the playoffs. I don't care if they charge one dollar for the package, it's not worth it to me. If they can't come to an agreement come playoff time I will only be watching playoff games on NBC and the NHL network.

None taken. I have no choice but to get GC because I am not in BFLO nor is Center Ice available on U-Verse. But, as I mentioned, when I plug the comp into the TV the picture quality is better than any standard def feed. My only other hockey alternative is the Panthers.......

Ohiofan Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 Well we have decided to double up if this issue is not resolved by the time the playoffs start. We have Direct Tv now...we can add Armstrong Cable for 30 bucks so we get Versus. Two years ago, Armstrong stopped offering Center Ice which is why we went with the dish. But Armstrong does include Versus...so we will carry both through the playoffs. 30 bucks for those games...not bad, plus they are in HD...
JJFIVEOH Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 Quick question: I notice from their website that it seems that CI is a separate subscription. But DirectTV has a separate hockey package similar to NFL. Is CI and the hockey package the same?

I don't know why/how they would have a separate package? all i know is i'm getting PO'd about this Versus/Directv dispute.

I don't know why/how they would have a separate package? all i know is i'm getting PO'd about this Versus/Directv dispute. Reason I asked is for the short time I had the NHL package (CI) on DirecTV there was usually the option of watching both the home and away feed. Did they do away with that? If MSG will no longer be aired through DirecTV couldn't those people at least watch the other feed?

Did they do away with that? If MSG will no longer be aired through DirecTV couldn't those people at least watch the other feed? People outside WNY who have CI will get the MSG SD feed and the other team's feed(s)*. So they'd have the choice of watching RJ/HN in SD or watching the other team. People inside WNY w/ or w/out CI will get the MSG HD feed** but no other feed. So we are "stuck" w/ RJ/HN. :) *Philly feed (due to Snyders being @$$#*!%$ --> Comcast dispute w/ DirecTV) and many Canadian feeds don't show up on CI. When Canadian feeds are available they often aren't in HD. **For home games and the 6 road MSG produced games (NYR, NYI, NJD). All other roadies are in SD.

I'm in the exact same spot - I love Armstrong - they gave me a great deal for three months of Versus when the Sabres had that December run of four Versus games in four weeks.
