MattPie Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=513444 So wait: FSN Pittsburgh (and likely other 'home' channels) provide the video to the refs/Toronto for review? Really? Wouldn't it make more sense that the league gets the ability to see every camera angle and select which to view on their own?

Really? Wouldn't it make more sense that the league gets the ability to see every camera angle and select which to view on their own? I've been making fun of the whole "Toronto war room" thing ever since it started. I've heard announcers say that they see angles that we don't get. That's crap. All they are doing is watching the same broadcasts that we are. Most times, I bet there are only 2 video paths that leave each (home and away feed) truck. Each camera goes directly to the truck, recorded separately, and then switched to the feed leaving the truck. I'm sure this has happened before. I'm surprised it took this long for it to be brought forward.
Rip Titwide Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 Interesting And all this time Ive been thinking that it was the league itself pulling strings. Not saying the fix is in. Its just that Ive never felt comfortable or trusting of these video reviews whenever the cities of Pittsburgh, Toronto, and particularly...no, especially Montreal are involved. Makes you wonder how many outcomes were affected by producers who didnt "screw up" and play the detrimental evidence.
repster Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 Remember the hole in the net in Philadelphia in the playoffs a few years ago during the Hasek years? Regier saw it on the replay...and then charged into the replay room and went beserk.
Eleven Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 I've been following this since it happened, and the Auger/Burrows situation, too, and right now the NHL has a lot of explaining to do. I'm anxious to see what happens with FNS Pitt, and I don't think the Auger situation is over, either. For a league with credibility problems regarding officials (I know, it could be worse, it could be the NBA), the NHL has not had a good week.
spndnchz Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 FWIW, it's considered but not the rule that any TV/cable recording tapinig the event has to give all those shots to the NHL. It's in exchange for them being allowed to tape the game whether they paid or not. BTW, the guys father used to play for the Penguins.

Really? Wouldn't it make more sense that the league gets the ability to see every camera angle and select which to view on their own? Move along, nothing to see here. It's only been this way since forever, and the league has been admitting it for over 3 years now. :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: It is pretty sad that the league keeps the silly "call to Toronto" system; because it would be much better if they kept the reviews in-house and gave the ref access to a video review screen to make the final decision. Eleven Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010  Thanks for the thumbs-up. But the upshot is, the NHL has two housekeepers: one to lift the rug, and the other to sweep.
nobody Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 I'm guessing FSN Pitt suspended the producer by giving him a ticket to Disney World.
