wjag Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 Wow.. who knew? I smell a perjury charge coming...
shrader Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 I smell a perjury charge coming... Didn't he say that he wasn't going to answer any of those questions in that congressional hearing? If he didn't say "I never used steroids", it's not perjury.
wjag Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 Didn't he say that he wasn't going to answer any of those questions in that congressional hearing? If he didn't say "I never used steroids", it's not perjury. Oh yeah.. He kept saying I'm retired.. Edit: ""I'm not here to talk about the past. I'm here to be positive about this subject." Asked whether use of steroids was cheating, McGwire said: "That's not for me to determine.""
Bmwolf21 Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Paging Roger Clemens...Roger Clemens, time to come clean. And it would be nice if Bonds would fess up as well. Not that it matters. No one believes they're clean.

Bmwolf21 Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Except if they come clean charges are immediately filed. Not if they cut themselves a sweetheart deal. Except Bonds - I don't see him getting a deal from anyone. Either way I couldn't care less. McGwire, Clemens, Bonds...their PED use is the worst kept "secret" in sports. I know they won't ever come clean, but a guy can hope...
nucci Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 He's only doing this because he is now the Cards hitting coach and doesn't want to answer any questions this year.

Their use and the use of every other MLB player over the last 15 years. No one deserves the benefit of doubt. As far as I'm concerned, every single player used.
end the curse Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Rome is giving a great take on this right now.

stenbaro Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 I am a huge baseball fan. I watch it whenever I get a chance and I go to as many games as possible wherever and whenever the oppurtunity arises. I have followed it more closely than any other sport I have watched since I started watching sports in 1976. I embrace the history of the sport and I also look forward to the furture of it. Records are made to be broken and as long as that is the case athletes in the past and present are going to find ways and use them to be the best they can. I go back to 1998 in my mind every time I see a highlight of Mark or Sammy and remember the joy I had watching them go at it to break Maris record. I couldnt even remember the pennant race it was so awesome. It brought MLB out of its funk and might have inspired many youngsters to play ball because of it. I think that we as parents teachers and coaches need to instruct our children on the dangers these drugs can take on theyre bodies. But when it comes right down to it if they decide to use them then they have to live with it. In the end I guess I have become callused in my thoughts towards the modern athlete, if my kid did it I would be devastated not at the ridicule they would recieve but that the damage they did to their bodies. As a fan if they want to shoot themselves up and hit 500 ft bombs go at it, do with it what you will, its a blast to watch. If you want your head Giambisized go for it...Put them in the Hall, they paid the price or will pay the ultimate price with their health. If they are willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice to hit the huge HR or throw the 100 mph fb when they are 45 good luck to you.. I will enjoy the performance.. I dont have to witness the pain or the death I will just remember the performance. So go earn your millions your freakazoid bodies and all the fame you will. Enjoy it while you can cuz chances are it wont be for long...

McGuire admitted to taking Andro, it was obvious that he was/or had been on more than that. Sammy as well. Sammy grew an awful lot in the runup to that season; that doesn't just happen from taking vitamins and working out. McGuire was pretty big by the time he hit the bigs, I'd be shocked if he wasn't on steriods in high school. Check out a Barry Bonds baseball card from ~1990 and look at him today. The guy isn't even recognizable as being the same person his head has (literally) swelled so much. And it is for such a stupid reason. The guy would have been a HoF'er just on his Pirates (and natural abilities) record on it's own merits. But the guy couldn't live w/ that; he had to find a way to cheat and break his Godfather's record. He now might actually not make the HoF; he could even go to jail for perjury. How friggin' stupid. I'm sorry, I have absolutely no sympathy for anyone that 'juiced' to make it to the bigs and then stay there. If we have an entire decade + that there are no HoF'ers except Junior and Maddox, I'm fine w/ it. Maris gets an *, but 2 juicers get free passes. Thanks Bud, heck of a game you're runnin'.

I never said I had sympathy for them at all...Big Mac obviously used roids..He was a big kid when he played for the US in the olympics..They tested for that then and he didnt fail..No doubt he used but if the man wants to kill himself so be it..He is the one that has to live with it..Let him..In fact use more..I want to see a ball hit 700 ft...Go for it...We all know they use it..IF you do its on you....

Didn't mean to imply that you did have sympathy for them. Just stated that I have no problem w/ passing on the whole generation. Yeah, use more. We could use a few 100,000 more Lyle Alzados. <_< (Yeah, football, not baseball, but same issue.) Ken Caminitis (sp), John Kordics. They don't influence kids to follow in their footsteps, at least not until they die from health issues related to steroids. Yeah, right. <_< No doubt Mac used 'roids. Didn't matter, watching him jack a ball 1/2 a mile was worth it and brought joy to an adoring public. <_< We do all know they use it, which is why some of us don't give a rat's rear end about MLB anymore.

I hear you..BUt lets not be naive about the pro athlete..If you dont think anyone of them wouldnt use something to gain an advantage over anything they go up against we are fools....Hell when I was in the Marines at war they gave us "meds" to perform at "high" levels for days with no sleep..All drug testing stopped then but once we came back it all changed..It was there for there purpose just like it is there for the pro athletes purpose...

That was shameful. It's not the first time that a country has abused its army (I use that term loosely) and it won't be the last, but that was shameful. At least the jocks had choices.
Guest Sloth Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 Yeah, I loved watching Mac and Sosa go after the record. I also enjoyed watching Bonds set the mark. But, once the steroid allegations came out and it became clear they used the roids, I was mad. I could care less about any of the homeruns I saw them hit. They didn't save the game, they ruined it. The only baseball I enjoy watching is Little League baseball. That is where you can find true sporstmanship.
bottlecap Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 McGwire?? Steroids?? I'm shocked, shocked to find that steroids are going on in here. The stats will probably stand  but I say no HOF for any steroid users.
inkman Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 McGuire was pretty big by the time he hit the bigs, I'd be shocked if he wasn't on steriods in high school. I'm not sure if I concur, as a pretty big fan of McGwire I noticed a significant jump in body mass in the later years of his career. Could he have been on them since high school, sure. The pics tell me otherwise. Just cuz I'm me:
shrader Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 The stats will probably stand  but I say no HOF for any steroid users. If the voters think like this, I don't know how they can vote for anyone who played in the last 15 years. As we've already seen, no one is safe from accusations. What a joke it becomes when they refuse to vote for one guy because they think he juiced, while voting for another because they think he didn't juice.
inkman Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 What a joke it becomes when they refuse to vote for one guy because they think he juiced, while voting for another because they think he didn't juice. Not to mention if 75%(just a guess)of the league was juicing, including hitters and pitchers, who is to say it wasn't equally as hard to hit off a juiced pitcher as it was to get keep a juiced hitter in the yard. It really opens a can of worms when voters start making determinations when so many variables are involved.
