inkman Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 One thing I liked: After the crushing hit, Zack dropped his gloves and just pounded the dude who came after him. Oh, and he scored a goal, too. Some debut for his new team! It reminds me of Spacek laying out Nichol and getting sucker punched because he never thought about the consequesces. Kassian looks like he wants people to come after him.

end the curse Posted January 15, 2010 Author Report Posted January 15, 2010 It reminds me of Spacek laying out Nichol and getting sucker punched because he never thought about the consequesces. Kassian looks like he wants people to come after him. Gotta go back a very long time to remember when the Sabres weren't considered soft. This year we do have more grit and fight than the past few seasons, but still nothing that will put fear in the eyes of other teams. Yes, Kassian's hit was a bit predatory, but this team really, really needs that element of toughness from the 3rd line up. Think Lucic/Getzlaf.
shrader Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 That one should get him about 10 games at least. They seem to be pretty proactive about these things up there lately.
Mbossy Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Suspended. Indefinitely. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=513752&cmpid=rss-News
LabattBlue Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Suspended. Indefinitely. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=513752&cmpid=rss-News "TORONTO - Windsor Spitfires defenceman Zack Kassian has been given an indefinite suspension by the Ontario Hockey League, pending a further investigation." When did Kassian get moved to the blueline??
Mbossy Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Reading into it a bit more, Kennedy had knocked Ellis head first into the boards earlier and this was retaliation. IMO Zack's a good kid with a lot of heart. he plays with passion, but dude, if you want to play more than your suspended for stay on your feet and make sure the guy has the puck first.
carpandean Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 So ... if the OHL bans him for life, then he can play in the AHL, right? ;)
nobody Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 So ... if the OHL bans him for life, then he can play in the AHL, right? ;) My hope also!
North Buffalo Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 ? Is Brayden McNabb a relative of the former Sabre Peter?
Eleven Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 ? Is Brayden McNabb a relative of the former Sabre Peter? Could be, but they do have different last names. Peter's was McNab.
rickshaw Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 Kassian's hit was shamelful and dirty. I have no problem with rocking a guy, but the puck has to be there. It wasn't. The guy can't leave his feet. He clearly left both feet. Sure, we need tough guys, but that was cheap at the highest level. He should be suspended for a good long time for that hit.
Vanek Nation Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 "TORONTO - Windsor Spitfires defenceman Zack Kassian has been given an indefinite suspension by the Ontario Hockey League, pending a further investigation." When did Kassian get moved to the blueline?? Not sure if this is meant in jest, but Kassian is still a forward haha, the article got it wrong. I wouldn't be surprised to see him suspended for 10+ games or the rest of the season for this hit... But, WOW, can this kid fight or what. As others have already said, I would love to see Kassian become a 20 goal/50 point/100 pim guy.
LabattBlue Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 Not sure if this is meant in jest... Yes!
carpandean Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 but the puck has to be there. It wasn't. I guess it depends on what you mean by "there". It was above Kennedy; he was looking right up at it. ;)
Calvin Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 I guess it depends on what you mean by "there". It was above Kennedy; he was looking right up at it. ;) .. and right above the puck, like the dark looming shadow of an impending hurricane, was Kassian. all of him, shoulder-first.
SwampD Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 .. and right above the puck, like the dark looming shadow of an impending hurricane, was Kassian. all of him, shoulder-first. Yep. The timing was just fine. The shoulder to the face wasn't
Rip Titwide Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 I for one would love to see the return of the intimidating edge that the Sabres lack, and Kassian and McNabb seem to have that spark. For all of you who are afraid of owning your very own "head hunter" IMO I think that by the time they reach the NHL level, especially if LR is still behind the bench, they will most likely be refined to a point where they play much more responsibly. Kaleta early in his career even in training camp had to be harnessed from blowing up teammates. At this point he still takes his runs, but doesnt hurt the team with needless penalties in the process. No 2 players are the same but the plus side of the dirty play is that these guys are young and can be shaped still.
shrader Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 ? Is Brayden McNabb a relative of the former Sabre Peter? His father is Donovan.
wjag Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Windsor really drew the short straw in this trade. He plays in his first and only game and is suspended indefinitely. Probably what makes GMs drink. Suspended indefinitely.
Two or less Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 I like Kassian a lot. I know his stats are comparable to Kaleta's but Kassian was one of the youngest players in the draft. When Kaleta had his big season with Peterborough, he was 19 years old. Kassian during his "big" season was 17 and turned 18 during the season. To compare, this is the season he was supposed to be massive however injuries have limited him from doing so. I think he missed like 5 weeks earlier in the season and that was one of the main reasons why he did not even get invited to the Canadian juniors final camp because he was hurt earlier and they took all healthy players who were playing at a high level. I wouldn't call him a head hunter just yet. He does play on a very high level though. I don't think he'll be suspended for much longer, maybe 2 or 3 more games. It was still a brilliant trade by Windsor who are one of the best (if not the best) team in CHL. Kassian goes from a very poor team to a team who is going to look to win the OHL and also who have a have their sights set on the memorial cup. Kassian just needs to be a bit smarter but he is much more talented then Kaleta.
carpandean Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Windsor really drew the short straw in this trade. He plays in his first and only game and is suspended indefinitely. Probably what makes GMs drink. Well, he did score a goal first.
Eleven Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Sadly, what Kassian did is nothing compared to what Canada captain Patrice Cormier did yesterday. (Caution. This is not for the faint of heart.) Cormier should be banned from junior hockey for the remainder of his eligibility, and the pro leagues might do well to consider some sort of prospective ban.
