end the curse

Woh, you scared me for a second. I though Darcy had dealt him.

This thread is misleading and titled vaguely. I had a feeling this was what it was about and only makes me wonder what the threads originator intended.

Part of my dastardly, underhanded conspiracy to take over the world one message board at a time. Either that, or I simply neglected to make the thread title specific enough, and it caused a bit of confusion for some of the readers as a result. Truth be told, you'll always be left to wonder...

mooohahahahaaaa.

A trade that should be good for Kassian. He wasn't really stepping up for the Petes and from what I've read has been disappointing. Windsor has been called the most talented junior team of all time, which is probably a stretch but should take some heat off the kid.

I'm not sure how this works, but how soon can we get Kassian playing in Portland? What are the restrictions?

Kassian turns 19 in two weeks, so I believe that he still qualifies for juniors next year (well, they are allowed a restricted number of 20+ players, too, but that's not what I am referring to.) Since he has not played four seasons of juniors, I believe that he will not be eligible to play in the AHL next year. Someone can correct me if I have that wrong.

I'm not certain on this but, the Sabres only have the rights to sign him right now. I don't believe they've actually signed him to a SPC, they have a few years to do this before losing the rights to him. They'd have to sign him, then loan him to Portland. His junior team would have to be done playing in order to do this.

I am pretty sure that at the start of next season, Kassian will be in the same boat Myers was in this past October. Stay in the NHL or back to the OHL. The following season would allow him to be assigned to Portland.

Please, please, please let him develop QUICKLY!

TSN showed a highlight in the second intermission of the Flyers-Leafs game of a Kassian hit on a player from Barrie. This was from Thursday night's OHL game.

Barrie player skating in the neutral zone never touched the puck, puck was in the air and he was looking for it, and Kassian left his feet to hit him.

TNS Panel consensus was that a suspension was likely.

He definitely pushed up through and went over the top of him. Here's the moment of impact:

I like this kid more and more.

That was an ugly hit, but he's certainly handy with this fists. Perfect guy to have on the ice when dealing with twits and goons like Neil, Ruutu and the rest.

How is he offensively? Is he Kaleta at his best, or is he a legit second-line forward? It would be too much to expect first line offense from him - kind of like expecting Myers to lead the team in ice time in his first season.. wait a sec, that did happen!

He was looking for the hit ahead of time, but the other guy started looking for the puck in the air and exposed himself even worse....

Helluv a hit, would love him to do that to Ruutu or Neil or better yet to cheepy Alfredsson.

If he can play physical at the NHL level and after a few seasons develop into a 25 goal 50 point player, I will be very happy.

i like the kid as a prospect, but i'd have no problem if hits like that were eliminated from the game entirely. don't get me wrong, i enjoy them on some level, but they're just not worth it given the risks that come with them.

and i'm beginning to think that these "moment of impact" images are of limited value, possibly even misleading.

I had heard he was somewhat talented offensively but these numbers have me wondering.

(Kaleta's best year w/ Petes vs Kassian's best year w/ Petes)

GP G A Pts PIM

Kassian 61 24 39 63 136

Kaleta 62 24 28 52 146

Eerily similar.

This would have been the season that you would think Kassian's numbers go up. That being said, it doesn't mean he can't eventually be a 2nd line power forward in the NHL. I am interested to see how he does in the Memorial Cup this spring and hopefully he plays a major role at the World Juniors next season.
