sabresfan36 Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 anyone notice how lalime was always going for the pokecheck?
Eleven Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Those were the 3 I thought before the shootout. I should have wrote it down for you. <_< Nah, I really didn't say that to be a dick. Colo. didn't make its early picks correctly, either. I really want to know why Mair was so far up on the list. It's Adam #%^$#!ing Mair. Not a scorer.
nobody Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 anyone notice how lalime was always going for the pokecheck? After his last shootout I think that is the only move he has confidence in.

end the curse Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Proud of the fight our boys showed tonight. Great effort coming off back-to-back, and once again we demonstrated that we're about the toughest out in hockey. One concern: Tallinder had a god-awful game tonight. I sure hope the sloppy turnovers are an isolated incident and not the start of a slide back to the dark side.
wjag Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 I say go with Myers, Vanek and Hechts .. just a hunch My hunch was pretty good..
Eleven Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 My hunch was pretty good.. From what I saw, Myers needs to be banned from shootouts. (Actually, and I'm not kidding, it would be cool to see Miller take off the large pads, grab a small stick, and go. At least before Myers and freaking Mair!)

That would be epic..
nobody Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 I'd like to see Myers get 10 feet from the net and take a slap shot.
end the curse Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 What's nice is that despite losing the shootout, we actually gained a point on Boston and Ottawa, who both lost in regulation.

DR HOLLIDAY Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 I'd like to see Myers get 10 feet from the net and take a slap shot. It would be code Brown time for the goalie involved..........
carpandean Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Great comeback. Really thought that they might win it in regulation or OT (despite the PK), but when it went to the SO, I figured we were done. Went longer than I thought, though. Patty had two chances to win it in the SO, but he was beat on some nice shots. Take the point and move on to the long road trip. Edit: Patty 3-0-2 in his last five (counting the Pittsburgh comeback in relief of Ryan.) Can't ask for much more than that from your backup.

What about the chances the Sabres' shooters had? THOSE were chances to win it! The SO part of the loss is NOT on Lalime.
LabattBlue Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Game thoughts... Good - Just got home form the game and despite the loss, the game was thoroughly entertaining(especially the 3rd period and beyond). - Vanek with a pretty good game compared to recent efforts. - Lalime with little chance on two out of the three goals. He made several good saves when the Sabres were trailing to keep them within striking distance. - I really liked how hard some of the guys were skating in the 3rd period. Bad - Tallinder's giveaway on the 1st goal. - Montador "stepping aside" on the 3rd goal. What was he thinking other than trying to get a good view of the goal? - Another poor 1st period. GO SABRES!!!!
inkman Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 I'd like to see Myers get 10 feet from the net and take a slap shot. Yeah if you want to see the goalie eating Myers' stick. (insert joke here)
end the curse Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Looking forward to Kaleta's return...we need his energy and hitting back in the lineup.
SabresFan526 Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 This was a really fun game tonight. I loved the pace and the scoring chances. It was really fun despite losing in the shootout. Here are some of my thoughts. I'm really beginning to love this Sabres team. There is no quit in them. They were down by 2 goals twice in this game and came roaring back to tie it up. There is just no quit in this team. I love it. Lalime has been excellent since going down to Portland. He has not had a regulation loss since coming back from conditioning. More than that, the team is really playing well in front of him and giving him more support. But, he's also played really well and made some huge saves. The Sabres really controlled the third and OT. I was hoping they would get a goal because I didn't think they had much chance in the shootout, but Lalime really surprised me by taking this thing a lot further than I expected. I tend to cringe anytime the Sabres get into a shootout this year. Not so much because of the goaltending but because of the shooters. They haven't been in a ton of shootouts, but I don't think they've had a lot of success in them, mostly because of the lack of shootout specialists. It is in this area as well as in the PP, that I miss Kotalik. But, is it worth taking up a roster spot for a guy who can do two things well but is incredibly mediocre to poor in all other aspects of the game? He's a pretty consistent 20 goal scorer, though. I don't know. All I know is when the game went to the shootout and the Sabres sent Kotalik out there with Miller in goal, I was pretty confident the Sabres would win. Now, I'm not so confident because the Sabres don't really have a shootout stud. Overall, fun game. I'll take the point and move on. I'm looking forward to the game in Atlanta as I will be attending. I fully expect a loss as I don't think they will do well if I watch them in person.

wjag Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Just Cause: 1. Lalime was huge for the Sabres tonight. He made some Miller-esque saves. He is a worthy backup. I no longer doubt this team's ability to win when he is in net. 2. SO is not this team's forte. 3. Great effort in the third. Nice to watch reverse Alamo mode, what I dub Sioux mode. 4. Craziest OT/SO I've watched in some time. I don't care what you folks thinks, Myers had him beat and just came up short. 5. Nice to see Vanek charge the net and get a goal. 6. The Avs have a fine team. They brought the lumber tonight. 7. Glad Montador stood up for Lydman on that hit. 8. I believe this is the first game they have lost when Hechts scores. 9. Roby has drunk the kool aid. He says this Sabres team has what it takes to make a cup run. 10.Even though they lost, I feel like they won. A loss was coming. A loss with a point is just fantastic. Now they can head out on the roadie and start a new streak. Amazing the loser point doesn't seem so bad when it's your team getting it.
JujuFish Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Are you kidding? What about the chances the Sabres' shooters had? THOSE were chances to win it! The SO part of the loss is NOT on Lalime. I'm quite certain carpandean was not blaming the loss on Lalime. Lalime did have 2 chances to win it. 2 chances in 11 rounds is not what I would call putting the blame on Lalime.
nfreeman Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 It would be code Brown time for the goalie involved.......... That is just filthy.

Hawk Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 A couple thoughts on last night: 1.Props to Montador for standing up for Lydman. Which leads me to my next point. 2.When Kennedy was digging for the puck behind the Avs net and was crunched by two players, all his linemates did was hover over him and I assume say "Are you ok buddy?" WHEN THE H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS ARE THESE PLAYERS GONNA GETS SOME BALLS!! For Gods sake even if you are afraid to fight at least shove the other guy or something. It may have been a legal hit but I dont care, stand up for your teammate. Now I'm pissed, dont know if I can continue. OK deep breath. 3. Lalime was flopping around all night like a carp on hot asphalt. I did not like his play at all. 4. Mair in the shootoff before Kennedy!!! WTF!!! I'm Done Got more but to pissed off. :censored:

He is absolutely invaluable to our team, and I wish we had more like him. Lalime certainly wasn't great, but he was pretty good and gave us a chance to win about 40 times in the shootout. It's all you can ask of a backup who will play maybe 15 games all year.
