Sabres fans in Philly?

Hey guys, I recently moved to Philly a while back and I'm wondering if there are groups of Sabres fans who get together and watch games in bars, kinda like the Bills Backers.

Anyone know if this exists or where I could find info about it?

Egads man, in Philly? You poor bastard. My heart goes out to you. :cry:

If you do find a place, hide your jersey on the way there. If Philly fans find out there is a Sabres fan among them, I'm pretty sure they serve YOU up as the steak on a Philly cheese steak.

Right, they were none too happy to see me walking around the city this fall with my Bills TO jersey. Yeah... that didn't make me any friends...

LOL, I hear ya, something to be said about city pride, eh.

Couldn't find any, asked a friend of mine who live in Philly if there is a place, he said he watches the games with a few others from Buffalo at his place.

He did say though, if its Buffalo against the Rangers, your good when you go out then lol

I'm in Wilmington and don't think there is such a place. There is a good sports bar by the Stadium Complex called Chickies and Petes, but not safe for the opponents fans.

I've been living in this hockey hell for a long time. Never heard of a bar airing Sabres games. Unless the Flyers are playing, hockey doesn't exist here. There are a couple of bars where the Bills-backers meet for games. Best bet would be to go to one of those to see if they know of any. Of course, it's early January now, and as usual, the Bills are done until next season. Center Ice is a necessity just like milk and bread. Tread lightly my novice friend. While there are many good, knowledgeable Flyer fans (yes, they do exist), there is always at least one cement-headed, assclown who takes it upon himself to reinforce the bad rap this City gets for being an inhospitable place for opposing fans and players. And if you go to a game, prepare yourself to hear the opposing players greeted with a "SUCKS" after his name is announced. You wanted classy, you got Philly instead.

Agreed with most of the above.

One note is there were some Buffalo fans at the Fox and Hound at the King of Prussia mall during one game I was there for (I don't go often, not sure if that's common). The bar has Center Ice and will put the game on if you ask. It's a corporate sports bar type place, many TVs.

Another tip is The Whip Tavern out in the middle of nowhere south of Coatesville. The owner/manager is from Orchard Park, and they have decent wings and beef on weck on the brunch menu. They're not as good as Buffalo, but they'll do. The place is an 'English Pub' type place so I'd be surprised if they'd have the game on Center Ice.

It's easy to pick on Philly fans...but in the year I have lived in Philly I have found it to be a bigger version of Buffalo. They love their city and love their teams...and would be hard pressed to find a city with more heart...outside of Buffalo that is.

As a die hard, Sabres, Bills and Yankees fan...I have heard the warnings and always wear my colors.

To your question of a Sabres bar...nah...get Center Ice...

Side note...yes Philly fans can be obnoxious...but so can fans from Buffalo...if you don't think so then head to a Bills game (even when they were good)...The Ralph can be a lot of fun but when the team sucks (and when doesn't it) it sucks.

Our other office is in Philly - I can ask them if they know of such a place....

If I were in your place, I would only watch Sabres games at home with the shades drawn. I read some of the posts on their fan forum a couple seasons back and their fans are vicious (which the dictionary defines as: ferocious and violent, dangerous and aggressive, malicious, wicked and immoral. That certainly sounds like Flyer fans!)

OK, I just heard back from a programmer there in Philly who is a Flyers fan. He says that:

1. He knows of no such place in Philly;

2. There is not much hockey talk there now 'cause the Flyers SUCK (his emphasis, not mine);

3. The Flyers fans don't consider the Sabres a big rival (so not true on this side).

4. You might be able to wear a Sabres jersey to a sports bar, but chances are they won't have the Sabres game on - whatever you do, don't cheer when the Sabres score.

Thanks for all the info. All most Philly fans seem it care about is football and baseball, so when I ask around for hockey fans in general, there are almost none to be found.

I think I'll have to invest in center ice. BTW of the Philly sports fans I've encountered, the majority were obnoxious, but mostly just obnoxious about baseball, haha.

Yep, they are much worse when they are winning. It is an Eagles/Phillies town. Flyers barely and Sixers nothing.

i lived there for 6 years and really enjoyed the city....but still consider flyer fans the lowest form of vermin among all 4 major pro team sports. they can suck my hog and i hope they stay in last place.

Eagles fans consistently give me crap about the Bills sucking, so naturally my first instinct is to call out how horrible the Flyers are. Usually they'll just look at me like I'm the dumb one for caring about hockey. Topsy turvy town man...

God I miss Buffalo.

Don't worry man. I have lived in jersey right across the river from philly for 18 years and I grew up a sabres fan. Never be afraid of the cryers fans they are all talk. I never once had an issue wearing my sabres jerseys at wachovia center, but anyway welcome to philly. it's always nice to see more sabres fans here.

P.S. If you play hockey, we got a good rink over here in pennsauken,nj called the flyers skate zone and we could always use guys at open hockey. there is one in noth east philly as well.

There is no specific Sabres bar that I am aware of. However, a few bars in Philly get Center Ice so you may be able to coax them into putting on the games. In Manayunk there is the Bayou and close to Center City, alright North Philly, there is Coos, which is roughly at Broad and Fairmount. We should think about organizing places to watch the games.

While I used to go to the Bills Bar in Manhattan...I just can't get into going to a bar to see the Sabres...there are far too many games...but that's me.

Fox and Hound in Center City on 15th is a huge bar crowd with tons of sports on...bet you can get the games there...also for great wings...North 3rd in Northern Liberties...they are spot on!

Btw the Mitchess and Ness store on Chesnut often has Sabres gear there...they said they get tons of requests for Sabres grear...all old school blue and gold, of course.

It's easy to pick on Philly sports fans but I have gotten nothing but respect for supporting my teams since I moved there. Maybe because I am a girl...guys don't get as bent out of shape...one place that is horrible is Long Island...the stadium is a sheit hole and the people are downright nasty.

In my experience Eagles/Bills flyers/sabres fans are on par...although nobody hear wants to think such thoughts....its true.

You're right, there are too many games. I was thinking more about finding a place should this team make the playoffs.
