BetweenThePipes00 Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Edmonton Oilers skip out more than $5,000 of a restaurant tab (the bill was nearly $18,000 and they would pay only $12,000) and now it's the RESTAURANT that might be in trouble ... http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=304735 ... "Neil Hoffman, a spokesman for the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission, said an anonymous tipster has accused staff at Osteria de Medici of continuing to serve the Oilers even after they were obviously drunk." First of all, I hope they do not plan on trying to shut down every bar in Canada that serves drunk hockey players. Second, if this were a bunch of NBA "thugs" in an American city, do you think the anyone would try to blame the restaurant? Or would the players be getting killed in the media for not paying the $5,000? Just sayin', it's an interesting contrast how we seem to look for things to tear our athletes down about while Canadians will defend NHL players to a fault.
McJeff215 Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Eh, tough call. Gut says that if they were tipsy enough to be taken advantage of, they were tipsy enough to be disorganized and not realize someone told a waiter to keep the bubbly flowing.
sweeper Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 If something like that were to happen in the US, regardless of circumstances, I'd hope no one would give a #%^$#!. Just like no one in Canada should either.
Rip Titwide Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 $5000?!! The restaurant is just fortunate that Patrick Kane plays in Chicago.
rbochan Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Perhaps they should do this on Chippewa before games.
