wjag Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Lindy mentioned that bad bounce that cost us a Montreal game. That was the one I very clearly remember. Couldn't tell you if it was last year or two years ago, but I do remember it. They finally got a bad bounce break.
BuffalOhio Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Anybody ever have some Yancey's Fancy? No, but I just saw some in a Giant Eagle here in Cleveland!
BuffalOhio Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Now do you believe? No, not really. These slow starts are gonna kill 'em eventually.
VanBoxmeer Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Buffalo had one SOG in the OT.. One was all that was needed.
BuffalOhio Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Before it was Yancey's Fancy it was Kutter's Cheese Factory. I dated the daughter for several years back in high school. She worked there and smelled like cheese a lot, but I was ok with it. :) But did she taste like cheese?
VanBoxmeer Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 But did she taste like cheese? Hopefully it was the Buffalo Wing cheese....
bob_sauve28 Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 How sweet it is! Love the heart this team has shown this year. They just don't quit. Detoit hex: Check Atlanta hex: Check Ottawa hex....nnnyyeccchhhhh One, Two, we want Three! Yes, I can't wait till we get the Ottawa monkey off our backs!
rickshaw Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 The Sabres are bucking a huge trend here these past 3 games. Teams trailing after 2 periods this year has happened over 450 times. The team trailing has won 27 games in regulation and around 50 with OT or shootouts. The Sabres have been on the trailing side after 2 periods 3 straight games. Wow! When things are going well, these things will happen. Bounces like the one Roy got happen when you are going well, and happen against you when they aren't. The Sabres are up at the top of the league and none of their top 6 forwards has done much damage. Imagine what happens if they start going?? Yikes for the rest of the NHL. Road trip out West will tell a lot.
Calvin Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Lindy mentioned that bad bounce that cost us a Montreal game. That was the one I very clearly remember. Couldn't tell you if it was last year or two years ago, but I do remember it. They finally got a bad bounce break. I think it was the first game of this season, at home against the Habs in overtime.. shot went off the glass and flew straight back at Miller who didn't see it coming, and I believe it was Gomer who swatted it in.
repster Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Just got back from the game. I will repeat what I said after the first period of the Pittsburgh game with corrections at the end of that game and now this game: repster, on 29 December 2009 - 09:50 PM, said: How many more times are they going to show up sleepwalking through the first period? They looked like they were skating in quicksand. I'm glad Miller was pissed because he should have been. The Sabres havehad no business winning this game. I'll be happy if they do, but they play early like they have no heart at all. I really feel bad for the fans at the game to have to sit through a first period like that. It's really hard to believe lately that we are a first place team. Most opponents looks quicker to the puck - like we're out of shape or don't have the hustle. It was there in the beginning of the year, but they look like a shadow of their former selves. I guess that's why they play the game - you never know how it will turn out in the end, and this team can look like crap one minute and then turn it on and get the win. Teams like Ottawa, Pittsburgh and Atlanta don't have the same comeback karma for Buffalo like Toronto, Montreal or any Western conference team does though. I want to be able to strike out Ottawa next.
... Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 If this is the Sabres on a bad night, I'll take it. And I'll take second place in the conference along with it.
Hawk Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Strong words by Roby and Ray, that if Kovalchuk were to come to Sabres he would destroy this team, because of his selfish play...
end the curse Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Nice to see Connolly playing with the old chip on his shoulder again. He's been a pretty scrappy dude throughout his career, so I'm guessing the past month or so when he suddenly turned soft he must have been dealing with an injury of some sort. Anyway, good to see Timmy back again hitting, scrapping and scoring.

Eleven Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Anybody ever have some Yancey's Fancy? And with this, I'll start with my observations from the game... 1. "Artisan cheese" does not generally include "Buffalo Wing Cheddar" and "Jalapeno-Peppadew" among varieties. It's freaking crappy processed cheese. Who, pray tell, are these artisans? Are they the same people that think Ross Cellino and Steve Barnes are really lawyers? (Artisinal lawyers!) 2. The worst game I went to this year was the Sens game on the 26th. A close second was the game against the Devils in November. This is third worst, and I know, the Sabres won despite being out-played, out-hustled, and out-everything. 3. I want Milt Ellis, and not Vince Offer, at the arena. I don't need promotional crap (for the Sabs, not the sponsors who pay for it), interfering with our "Let's Go Buffalo" and "USA" chants during the game. Nice to announce the Sabres (and prospects) who are on their various Olympic teams; stupid to keep talking when we want to cheer for Miller. STFU already. 4. Hedberg found a way to out-stupid Tim Thomas today. Great job. 5. I've developed a new hatred for hip-hop. It was tolerable until my ears were assaulted with it during the game tonight. As with No. 3, STFU and let us enjoy the game. 6. Booing Max? But not booing Biatchy-slav Kozlov? Methinks some Sabres fans don't really get it. 7. Ruff's reaction when introduced as an assistant for Team Canada was priceless. Looked up at the scoreboard, scowled, went back to his lineup card. 8. Yeah, I'll take the two points, and my own advice (STFU). Got away with one.
tulax Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 I've been on Hecht's back on this board all season. Tonight he put up a great effort and got rewarded for his strong play. I don't take anything back that I said, I don't think one game changes the consistent performance being shown all season. I still feel that they'd be better off without him, at least on the top two lines. However, if he can put up efforts like that consistently it will certainly help to open opportunities for struggling teammates and win the Sabres games. Well done Jochen.

Kristian Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 No, not really. These slow starts are gonna kill 'em eventually. Yeah, lately it seems like the gameplan has been : Get down by two or three goals early, and lull them into a false sense of security. Then rely on basically every shot taken the rest of the game goes in. Loving the points, but I definitely see a team that could've easily lost 4 straight instead of winning 3. Oh well, moving on.

No not that one. I was at that game. The one I remember was a wild bounce where Miller went out to play it and it went back toward the open net. Miller was like Hedberg, out for a stroll and the puck never got to him.
wjag Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Just Cause: 1. There are seasons within seasons. At the start, Buffalo was shooting 35+ shots on goal and scoring a couple of times. The latest pattern is painfully slow starts and wild finishes. I'm not concerned about the slow starts, this will work itself out. As Roby said last night, it could be replaced with good first periods and awful thirds. That's why they play 82. 2. If you told me that Buffalo would be outshoot 62-20 in first periods over the last five games and have seven out of 10 points, I'd think you were crazy. 3. Buffalo went 9-6 through a tough December schedule and is undefeated in 2010. 4. Buffalo now has five 10 goal scorers with one at nine and two at eight, looking at six or seven twenty goal scorers by season end and possibly no 25+ goal scorers. 5. Even I didn't think they could come back and win that one last night after the way they played the second. That early third period goal was the key. Tying it up before the parade to the penalty box was clinching. Those penalties gave all the momentum back to Atlanta. It's amazing they didn't win that game. 6. Glad to hear Lindy acknowledge our fan frustration at the way they've opened games up. 7. Pominville with only 12:38 of ice time. He is a primary PKer so he must have been in the dog house last night. Not sure why, I don't remember anything + or - about his play. Gaustad's TOI was also down in the 12m area. 8. Atlanta owned the OT and still lost. 9. Miller's stats have ballooned up to 2.08 GAA. As Deluca pointed out, all of a sudden, he's letting in 3 or more goals per.. 10. Has been an exciting series of finishes lately. SO loss to Ottawa, and late game winners against Blues, Pens and Thrashers.

deluca67 Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 After looking back at the highlights I wonder why there isn't bigger talk about Myers play on Max at the end of regulation. Considering Max turned him inside-out the first go around. The kid used his reach and made a great play when Max was face to face with Miller. That play possibly was the reason they got two points.
