Calvin Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Surprise surprise! Wonder if Krupp talked to Ruff about the team selections - link Several weeks ago, Krupp told the German sport agency SID that "if a player over there [in North America] plays a marginal role and gets only a little ice time, it's absolutely possible that we will take a player [to the Olympics] who plays a bigger role in Germany."
end the curse Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Doesn't say much for Jochen that Gogulla made it and he didn't.

It would be nice if the Sabres could make Hecht go away so easily. ;)
shrader Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 I had no idea Jason Holland was German... or for that matter, still playing hockey.
Kevbeau Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Doesn't say much for Jochen that Gogulla made it and he didn't. I think it says more about Krupp than it does about Hecht.
repster Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 I think it says more about Krupp than it does about Hecht. I tend to agree. I think Hecht isn't as bad as many people make him out to be. As long as you don't expect him to score 20 goals like he used to, he will play his checking role pretty well (he's certainly better than the terrible year he had last year). It would be easier to swallow if he was making Grier money, but he signed for what they offered him. I have a hard time believing that the other non-NHL players they selected would be better suited for any NHL sized ice surface compared to the larger rinks they play on in Europe.
wjag Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 I'm personally in favor of all Sabres being snubbed from the Olympics. I want a SC. I could care less about USA Hockey with NHLers playing. I'm an advocate of turning back the clock to amateurs and college players. I don't care if the rest of the world doesn't follow suit. If Miller, or any Sabre gets hurt in the Olympics I'm gonna be beyond pissed. I'm with Harry, they should move hockey to the summer Olympics.

Eleven Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Is this idea any more ridiculous than having a team in Phoenix or LA? If they moved it to the Summer Games, I'd still watch. Likewise. It's also no more ridiculous than moving basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, judge-fixed martial arts, fencing, table tennis, wrestling, boxing, or any number of other indoor sports to winter.
tulax Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 I tend to agree. I think Hecht isn't as bad as many people make him out to be. I have a hard time believing that the other non-NHL players they selected would be better suited for any NHL sized ice surface compared to the larger rinks they play on in Europe. I would be fine with Hecht if he played on the 3rd or 4th line throughout the season. The fact is he does not. If a player on the top two lines is not playing excellent on a certain night, Lindy sends in Jochen. That is not Hecht's fault by any means, but if you don't expect him to score anywhere close to 20 goals don't put him on a line with guys that you are expecting to score 20 goals (Pominville and Connolly at the moment). I would rather have Kaleta, if he were healthy, playing with those two than Hecht any day because I know that he's going to get the puck out of the corners and distribute. Hecht pretends like he has offensive skill and usually turns the puck over when he tries to get creative.
