Eleven Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 USA-Switzerland is tied at 0 after the first period; it's on NHL Network and is more interesting than anything the NFL has to offer (including the Indy game). I know Adam is in for Canada; are any other Sabres prospects playing?
Eleven Posted December 27, 2009 Author Report Posted December 27, 2009 Hmm. Wasted power-play chances, too many passes in the offensive zone. Where have I seen this before? USA up 1-0, midway through third. Time to switch to the big boys, now, though.

I know Adam is in for Canada; are any other Sabres prospects playing? I don't have access to the games so I'm left with the internet. Adam is the only Sabres prospect in the WJC that I know of. The rosters of both the US and Canada were displayed on nhl.com with their professional links if any. As for the other rosters it will take some work! I don't know if you have the official tourney site: http://www.iihf.com/ The tourney site is always lacking efficient links to scores, standings, rosters, etc. So far I have found TSN to have the best coverage: http://www.tsn.ca/world_jrs/ I wish nhl.com had better coverage especially in regards to the rosters of all tourney teams and the professional links (if any) for the players. The other sites list current teams but I would like more info. The TSN site always has a fair share of jabber between the Canadians and Americans. Here is the link to the Saskatoon Star Phoenix: http://www.thestarphoenix.com/sports/hockey/worldjuniors/index.html USA roster: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=508298#&navid=nhl-search Canada roster: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=510120#&navid=nhl-search
Hank Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 Mods, would you pin this thread through the tournament please. Thanks in advance... Nice win by Finland yesterday, 4-3 after falling behind 3-0. USA has not impressed me so far, Canada has. Looking forward to thier game.
Eleven Posted December 28, 2009 Author Report Posted December 28, 2009 Hey Spun--nice first post. Thanks for the sources you've compiled there!

Nice win by Finland yesterday, 4-3 after falling behind 3-0. USA has not impressed me so far, Canada has. Looking forward to thier game. Seeing as how Canada has only played the weakest team in their group of course they're going to look good. Switzerland should give them more of a game today but the only threats they have are the Swedes, Americans and Russians. The Americans may have the best defense corps in the tourney and Campbell was the best goalie in the under 18s. I really could see an upset on New Years Eve.
Eleven Posted December 28, 2009 Author Report Posted December 28, 2009 Canada against Switzerland at 4pm on NHLN today (TSN for those in Canada); this ought to give us a good comparison between Canada and USA (who beat Switzerland yesterday).
Eleven Posted December 28, 2009 Author Report Posted December 28, 2009 5-0 so far. These kids are impressive. And green.
Hank Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 Yes, green...Any clue why? I've never seen the green unis before.
Eleven Posted December 28, 2009 Author Report Posted December 28, 2009 Yes, green...Any clue why? I've never seen the green unis before. I believe it's an homage to the Saskatchewan Roughriders football team. Silly.
Hank Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 7-1 US over Latvia, 6 min left in the 2nd. Anyone else watching? Seems like they haven't played five minutes even strength the whole game, one power play after another. Bad game to try to judge the boys on.

Seems like they haven't played five minutes even strength the whole game, one power play after another. Bad game to try to judge the boys on. Had to actually work today, so nope, I missed it. It ended 12-1?! Now I again feel like USA might have a chance.
Spun Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Hey Spun--nice first post. Thanks for the sources you've compiled there! You are welcome Eleven! I have been following the tourney via the web. Maybe I can see the US vs. Canada game at a sports bar later in the week. I am very surprised and disappointed that the Buffalo News has little to no coverage of the WJR. In light of Buffalo hosting the tourney next year, I would expect much better coverage. I am hoping to attend next year. Buffalo and it's hockey fans have a very good reputation for supporting hockey. Treat us that way Buffalo News! Does anybody have any info on how the 2010 Buffalo WJR is doing in regards to ticket sales? Adam did score for Canada against Slovakia! (Nice comeback Sabres!).
wjag Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 The song remains the same... "Canada rallied from a two-goal third-period deficit to beat the U.S., 5-4 in a shootout, in the final preliminary round game of the 2010 World Junior Championship, in Saskatoon, Sask." US vs Finland to get to the quarters..

BuffalOhio Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 You just can't give up a 2-goal lead with less than 10 to play. That being said, USA goaltender Jack Campbell has a very bright future.

Man, I was really close to calling the upset. Unrelated: There has to be a way that DVRs are signaled that sporting events are running over on time. I lost the whole OT and shootout and had to record the replay at 4am. Too bad the final score was scrolled at the bottom of the screen 10 times.
rickshaw Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 Got home from work with our Canadian boys down 2. Great comeback. Great finish!

LabattBlue Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 USA vs. Finland in a quarterfinal matchup tonight @ 9PM EST on the NHL Network. Winner plays Sweden in the semifinals tomorrow @ 9PM EST.
Eleven Posted January 3, 2010 Author Report Posted January 3, 2010 The announcers just paid a nice homage to Jeanneret by referring to his "fa-la-la-la-la-la-laFontaine" calls at Christmastime. Oh, and 2-0 good guys.

Oh, and 2-0 good guys. ...and quite the upset with Switzerland over Russia in OT. Nino Niederreiter and Benjamin Conz were huge in the game, and well Nikita Filatov not so much.
darksabre Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Niederreiter was very impressive. also, U-S-A! U-S-A! As long as we can stay out of the box against Sweden, we should be good. Undisciplined penalties are what will kill us. Gonna be a good game tomorrow night!
