Eleven Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Game time 7:00 PM Road crew is out at Kelly's Irish Times in DC. That's a great bar; I really miss it. A little bit more of a hike to the arena than the places around 7th and H, but it's more authentic.
end the curse Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 We always play well against Washington, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if we beat them again. Still, am I the only one who is having trouble not looking ahead to mother#%^$#!ing Ottawa on Saturday? I hope the players aren't, because they will get steamrolled by the Caps if they aren't properly focused on this game. Very concerned about Kaleta, who's still out tonight. I think there's more to this than they are letting on.
That Aud Smell Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Very concerned about Kaleta, who's still out tonight. I think there's more to this than they are letting on. seems as though the nhl might be lagging behind the nfl on the head injury policy. mind you, the nfl has essentially been shamed/pressured into being more conservative with player well-being, but the fact is that this was the year that guys in the nfl were being held out for weeks following any concussion-type injury, even if they were claiming to be symptom-free the next day. IIRC, kaleta's a guy who's gotten his "bell rung" a few times since he made the team and has then come back to play on a chop-chop basis. a big issue with players like kaleta (i.e., 3rd/4th liners or 6/7 d-men) is that they may feel that they will lose a roster spot if they don't get back in the lineup. i realize that kaleta has probably played his way out of that status, but i'm sure it's a consideration that made him come back too quickly in the past. this sort of stuff has to stop.
Corp000085 Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 I've been off my game with starting the GDTs lately. Thanks for covering for me everyone. I'm looking forward to tonight's game more so than usual. Maybe its that dish network quietly removed versus from my subscribed channels, so i've missed the last few games, maybe its the holidays, or my fussy son, but i haven't been into hockey over the past few weeks. I'm pumped for this game though. Hopefully we beat the "best team in the east" again, like we did last week.
static70 Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 I believe Buffalo handles business in Washington tonight. It may be a tight game but hey, Buffalo can handle these guys. Kaleta concerns are warranted, still, he needs to heal in order to play, if this means we don't see him until the New Year, then take that time to heal Patrick. As for tonights game, who is going to be the hero tonight (other than Miller :worthy: )
Mbossy Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 This will be a nice X-mas present. Noteworthy: Our last two meetings have been shutouts. One for us and one for them. Washington is the only team in the NHL (entering Tuesday’s games) with two 40-point scorers and one of only two teams that have five players in double-digits in goals. Sabres score early and hold off the assault.
plenzmd1 Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Game time 7:00 PM Road crew is out at Kelly's Irish Times in DC. So I am heading to the game tonight..but I think the Kellys thing was last night no? I was supposed to go, but work got in the way(hate selling software this time of the year). Be loud tonight Sabres fans, we should own that building again!
Calvin Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Rookie Neuvirth gets the start for the Caps.. still no word on Vanek for us, did he make the trip down? I doubt we see a shutout tonight - at least I hope we don't get shutout by a rookie goalie! Definitely have to score first, much rather be ahead against a fast and furious Caps offense then trying to play catch up. Looking to Grier to have a better game, akin what he was doing a month or so ago. For the whole team, being physical on and off the puck never hurts either!
R_Dudley Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Here we go, the top team in the east and another chance to completely shut down and shut up OV. Hope the boys are up for the challenge tonight. Should be fun to watch. Unlike Ottawa I like the way we play against Washington.
Ima90sJezus Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 ..but I think the Kellys thing was last night no? It was last night..... I'll be heading downtown at about 1530 - be at the Greene Turtle until the puck drops. I will miss not seeing Kaleta tonight. Hope the Sabres can shut down the Caps tonight, sick of hearing about Ovie down here. Go Sabres
cdexchange Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Bad feeling tonight. I think the Caps will handle us easily tonight in their own building, and get payback for the last meeting. I expect a poor effort from the Sabres tonight, with very little energy sans Kaleta. I think they are already in Christmas mode and will be looking to get out of there and get on with their holiday. 4-1 Caps. Hope I'm wrong.
Stoner Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 So I am heading to the game tonight..but I think the Kellys thing was last night no? I was spoda go, but work got in the way(hate selling software this time of the year). Be loud tonight Sabres fans, we should own that building again! Spoda?
Stoner Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 "Supposed to" Yeah, I got that. Don't google it. Trust me.
inkman Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 "Supposed to" Supposably...
Realist Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Bad feeling tonight. I think the Caps will handle us easily tonight in their own building, and get payback for the last meeting. With Christmas coming and Ottawa right after the break, I don't think they're minds are on this game as much. Besides, didn't Kaleta shadow Ovechkin most of the game the last time? Now he's gone for today. I just don't like it. Also, a rookie a goalie, maybe its just me, but rookie goalies seem to have a great game against the Sabres.
end the curse Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 While winning both would certainly be ideal, I would gladly trade a loss tonight for a win over #%^$#!ing Ottawa on Saturday.

Do they not celebrate Christmas in Washington? Do the Caps not have two days off coming up? Just sayin' ... Also, Washington is coming off of a West Coast trip ... could it be that they are happy to be home for Christmas and have last minute shopping to do? I am not predicting a big win or anything, but Christmas is a lame excuse. If anything, the Sabres are on a business trip with one thing to do while the Caps are at home with distractions all around them getting ready for the holiday.
inkman Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Yeah, I got that. Don't google it. Trust me. Growing up, I heard that severely racist term countless times but never knew it's origin. Now that I know, plenzmd1's use of it is questionable at best, flat out offensive most likely.
end the curse Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 No morning skate for the Sabres today... http://blogs.buffalonews.com/sabres/2009/12/quiet-morning-in-dc.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+typepad%2Fbuffalonews%2Fsabres+%28Sabres+Edge%29

Now that I know, plenzmd1's use of it is questionable at best, flat out offensive most likely. Certainly meant no disrespect or used the term in any kind of derogatory way. I never even knew the term had racial connotations at all..and have been using it in emails, texts etc for several years, with all kinds of folks. I will go back and edit it out..again sorry for using a word that would offend people.

Did read Brodreau gave the Caps two days off just for things like getting shopping done etc in preparation for the holidays. Wanted them to have complete concentration for the game this evening.

Wanted them to have complete concentration for the game this evening. Funny, I would think actually holding a practice to prepare for a game might help ... if they haven't been on the ice since Sunday, I don't think that's necessarily a good thing for them. Again, not predicting a win for the Sabres, they will have their hands full, but if they lose I doubt it will be because they are thinking about Christmas.
