Kristian Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 They guy everyone said I couldnt live without And so far he has two goals in as many games on that 4th line. Maybe he needed to be reminded of what's expected of him?
nfreeman Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 I really don't understand all these "player X who left the Sabres stinks" threads/posts. Were the results of losing Drury & Briere not striking enough? Can anyone really claim the Sabres didn't completely go to pieces without them? Would anyone not rather have Drury and Briere than, say, Roy and Pommer or TC and Pommer? The Sabres had an excellent, well-constructed team that should've been in the hunt every year. Instead, the Sabres blundered their way out of the playoffs. They didn't make savvy choices about letting guys go before they got too old and expensive. They just made one bad decision after another and set the franchise back several years. They're climbing back now, but it didn't need to be that way. As for Drury, he went home to NYC and got wildly rich but is now playing for a poorly constructed team that doesn't maximize his talents the way the Sabres did. That doesn't mean the Sabres are better off without him or were smart to handle his free agency the way they did.

The Sabres have built their team from within the organization primarily - sans rent-a-skater! Briere & Drury decided to go for cash rather than the work in progress. I'll venture to say that the Sabres will win the SC before any of their teams do. Post lockout, the NHL is structured to produce a winner that rolls 4 lines. Sabres have been developing this type of team with LR and DR. We're almost there. And our organizational depth is only getting better!
Sabrestrike Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 Well I'll say this: I think Drury would help this current Sabres team immeasurably with his experience, guts and leadership. I know it wouldn't make sense to bring him back, even if we could, because of his exorbitant salary. But the team would be even stronger with a guy like Drury here, and I think Drury would be better off than he is now, too, from a purely hockey perspective.
