Anyone know what is going on with Grier? He is listed as being out for personal reasons....hopefully everything is OK...have not heard anything nor can I find anything about why he is out...

I believe his mother is quite ill and he has taken a leave from the team to be with her. Here's the link.

Presumably, her condition is really serious, so I'm sure that is why he's taken a leave. I hope his mother gets well and everything works out for him. He's been great for the Sabres since coming back and I hope he comes back soon, but family matters are always more important than hockey, and I hope his mom gets better.

Just a quick bit of advice. When something like this comes up, check the pinned Bill Hoppe thread. The info was posted there a few days ago. Those reporters taking in each practice tend to hear about these things before anyone else.

With that said, should this thread be closed?

I don't think it should be closed. In the Hoppe thread, it's said his mother is sick. She passed away several days ago Lindy said after the game and the team held a moment of silence for her today.

R.I.P. Mrs. Grier.

Thoughts and prayers with Mike and his family tonight.

sad news - grier was/is obviously a devoted and loving son.

'A devoted and loving son' ... sounds like his Mom was one fine lady that did a great job with her son.

i'm real glad to have him back in Buffalo ... for more than one year, I hope.
