Sabres at home

Sabres have won 52 of their last 98 home games, going back to the start of 07-08. Not nearly good enough. A better home record would have easily ensured playoff berths the last two years, and a better record this year at home could have this team thinking about the top seed in the East.

This has been a very good road team since the lockout. They're well on their way to their fifth straight season above .500 on the road (currently 7-4). Pretty remarkable.

You almost appreciate the fact that the schedule has frontloaded so many home games (16 home vs. 11 away so far).

Nah, these guys drink straight up.

Seriously, good thought.

I really think some of these guys are convinced they are better than they actually are. When they're at home they want to put on a show (Ruff says it ALL the time) and they don't stick to the gameplan. On the road, no ones cheering for them and boosting their egos so it's a little easier to stay on task.

Yeah, I really hate when one of them says after a road win, "since we were on the road, we could just focus on playing the system and blah, blah, blah." If it works on the road, then give it a try at home. Nothing will impress the fans more than a win. You can be as fancy as you want, but no loss is better than any win.

PA: did you compare their home versus away peformance to other teams' home versus awat performance? I don't know how it will look, but I am curious.

The Versus color guy nailed it last night at the end of the third when he said something along the lines of "they're spending too much time looking for the perfect play instead of just getting pucks on net."

They need to remember that you play hockey to win no matter whether you're home or away. Just because you're at home doesn't mean you throw the system out the window, which is what they have a tendency to do. And I think that comes heavily down to leadership on the ice. Lindy can scream all he wants at them in the locker room and on the bench, but if the leaders on this team don't dictate the play on the ice, then we end up looking like a really bad version of Slap Shot 2.

I don't have that much time left.

The problem is everybody wants to be Gretzky on this team and nobody wants to be Kurri.

Are you that old? :nana:

Anyway, just quickly looking at this season, the Sabres rank as such:

Home win %: 56.25% (14th)

Home point %: 62.50% (15th)

Away win %: 63.64% (5th)

Away point %: 63.64% (8th)

Win % diff.: -7.39% (25th)

Point % diff: -1.14% (24th)

The teams that have done worse in win % differential (differce in %, not % difference):

New Jersey: -14.29% (64.29% at home, 78.57% on the road)

Toronto: -14.42% (23.08% at home, 37.50% on the road)

Florida: -20.00% (26.67% at home, 46.67% on the road)

Atlanta: -26.37% (42.86% at home, 69.23% on the road)

St. Louis: -27.08% (31.25% at home, 58.33% on the road)

At 23.08%, Toronto has the worst home win %, while at 73.33%, Chicago has the best. The team that really saves it for the home team is Minnesota with a +44.23% win% differential. They have the 3rd best home win % at 69.23% and the 28th best road win % at 25%.
