sabres121879 Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 I think the sabres need to find a way to rest Miller the rest of the season as much as possible. He can;t possibly play 70+ games and the Olympics and still be able to be in to form in the playoffs. Lalime is not good enough to be our backup. I wish they would trade for Biron and bring him back here for the rest of the season. I just don't think we will even make the playoffs if La"lame" has to play a lot of games. This article talks about resting Miller and about Brodeur's record. Sabres Notes Have a great day! Go Sabres! Sabres Notes
Two or less Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 Miller gets practices off. Last night on versus they said he's been off the ice 3 of the last 7 days in practice. I do agree, he can't play but playing Lalime or Enroth is almost like suicide. He allowed 4 goals on Saturday night to a poor baby Bruins team. 3 goals in the first period, on 7 shots. That's a total killer for a team and he's always had pathetic starts with us. DiPietro played his first game for Bridgeport on Saturday night, so i think Biron will be back here soon. But to play Lalime or Enroth is just stupid IMO. If we do that, why not just call up Gerbe, Ennis and Gogulla too and bench other star players? We are not going to win with Lalime, he's been more then horrible in games for Buffalo this season and had a pretty bad weekend in Portland. Miller does need rest and Ruff is doing the best thing... keeping him off the ice in practice. It's not enough but hopefully they get someone else in here to give him more rest later on.
JujuFish Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 We are not going to win with Lalime, he's been more then horrible in games for Buffalo this season I love how you can be so sure even though Lalime's started a whopping TWO games. He's 0-2. Last year he ended up with 90.0% save percentage. Biron was 89.9% his last season with us.

The team playing like crapola when he's in net is more the reason for his record, than anything else. I won't deny he gives up some easy goals once in a while, but that's to be expected. You can't expect more than a fighting chance from your backup, and I'd say 9 out of 10 shots stopped qualifies. Now, if the team would tighten up a little more in front of him, and actually play lige they give a damn when he's in net, maybe things would look very different. And no, I'm not a Lalime fan, but obviously having your backup in net should be a disadvantage for any team. If not, the starter is doing something wrong.

Maybe the team plays so poorly in front of him because he sucks.
spndnchz Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 At first I saw the thread title "Sabres need to rest Miller" and then I thought "Why? does he look tired?" then I giggled. B-)
JujuFish Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 We are not going to win with Lalime Look at that, Lalime just beat the best team in the Western Conference.
BetweenThePipes00 Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 Look at that, Lalime just beat the best team in the Western Conference. He did?!? When did San Jose come to town? ;) Seriously, the Sabres now have wins over every division leader except SJ, whom they have not played ... I'm pretty optimistic and I would not have believed they would do that by Dec. 11 of you had told me in October.
JujuFish Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 He did?!? When did San Jose come to town? ;) Before the game, Chicago was #1 in the Western Conference in points percentage. That means that yes, San Jose has more points but Chicago has more points per game played. With the loss Chicago has dropped below San Jose by half a percentage point.

They have beat five of the six division leaders: New Jersey Washington Calgary Chicago Who's the fifth you ask, why Buffalo of course. They beat themselves a couple of times already.. All that is left is San Jose...
Kristian Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 Maybe the team plays so poorly in front of him because he sucks. I don't think it's that simple, but yeah playing in front of Lalime is probably more difficult for a skater for two obvious reasons : a. They don't do it very often outside the pratice rink. b. Miller's a much better goaltender. A so-so team effort in front of Lalime is bound look a lot worse on paper than a so-so team effort in front of Miller, simply because Miller is the better goalie. And let's not kid ourselves, it's not like we don't ever see a so-so effort from this team. I'm just not sure what people expect from Lalime. Sabres fans have been spoiled by some great goaltending here in the past, and now that Miller seems to have taken his game up another notch Lalime gets more flak than ever. Why? Because he's not Dominik Hasek or Ryan Miller? Well, he's not Bob Essensa or Jocelyn Thibault either, even though he's had a rough season barring last night.

He's exactly Bob Essensa and nowhere close to as good as Thibault when both are on their game.
Kristian Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 He's exactly Bob Essensa and nowhere close to as good as Thibault when both are on their game. You don't like the guy - I get it. I'm not crazy about him either, but let's at least remain a little realistic here. Thibault in his one season with Buffalo : 3-4-2 SV% .869 GAA 3.31 Lalime in his first season with Buffalo : 5-13-3 SV% .900 GAA 3.10 Thibault was never "on his game" when here, except a shutout against the Canadians and one against the Bruins. The fact that he got two shutouts, and still has the SV% he has, speaks volumes as to how bad a state Thibault was in when he was here, though I'm sure Lindy's influence didn't help him much. Bob Essensa never even won a game for Buffalo - No comparison, no matter how much you may dislike them both.

I could've made that a little clearer.
