DCforJeanneret Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Whether or not Patty Lalime impresses Lindy after having knocked off rust in Portland, Darcy has to be scouring the league for other options. It seems neither Patty nor Jhonas enjoy the GM's full faith and credit. Biron has been discussed at length, but what other options are out there? I would think before management goes out for faceoff support, they would really focus their efforts on a backup who is going to win at least, I dunno, 50% of his starts?
SabresFan526 Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 I think one legitimate option is Johan Hedberg. It depends on the health of Kari Lehtonen. If Lehtonen can return prior to the trade deadline, I think Hedberg becomes expendable, or perhaps Lehtonen although Lehtonen's contract would be a bit too much to take on for a backup. Ondrej Pavelec has won the starting job and has completely taken it away from Lehtonen, so he he has no chance of getting it back even if he returns healthy. That leaves either Hedberg or Lehtonen as expendable, so depending on the Thrashers position for the playoffs they could easily trade one of these goalies. If I'm Buffalo, I'd go after Hedberg as a legit backup option. All three Thrasher goalies are Free agents at the end of the year with Hedberg as a UFA making him a reasonable backup target. Potentially after Cam Ward comes back, it's feasible to go after Manny Legace or Michael Leighton. Both are UFAs at the end of the year, so Darcy could go after one of these two as well. Of course Stephen Valiquette might be an option, but he was just waived by the Rangers and when the Sabres had a chance to pick him up for free and didn't, that clearly tells me that they are not interested. Those are my picks for options right now beyond Marty Biron. I think there are definitely backup options that are reasonable that are out there, but my preference would of course be Biron over others. We'll see if Darcy does anything.
RayFinkle Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Whatever they do, I hope it is done sooner rather than later. We are 1 injury away from a complete disaster of a season.
Sabre Dance Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 It has been said that after DiPietro returns to the Islanders that Biron would consider being moved to a contender. Right now, Buffalo looks to fit that definition. With Marty on board, Lindy could afford to give Millsey one game off in four and maybe more as the season winds down (depending on where they are in the standings). My gosh, it would be AWESOME to enter the playoffs will a well-rested Miller in goal and a backup happy to be back in Buffalo and with enough games under his belt to be able to step in "just in case". Now if we can just get Vanek to start putting the puck in the net...
shrader Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 It has been said that after DiPietro returns to the Islanders that Biron would consider being moved to a contender. There's no way he has a no trade clause with that deal, so Marty has absolutely no say in whether or not he's moved.
Two or less Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 There's no way he has a no trade clause with that deal, so Marty has absolutely no say in whether or not he's moved. Even if he did, i doubt he would reject Buffalo considering he's still a fan favorite here and still lives in Clarence.

darksabre Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 No matter who they get, if Miller gets injured at any point for long term, the season is over. Right on. A good backup goalie isn't the only thing this team needs.
