darksabre Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 They won this game just like they should have. Excellent. Montreal really is a clunker this year.

ROC Sabres Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 It does if the Bills win later. (c: Here's to wishful thinking. I know they are winning now, but you know the bills as well as I do.
Stoner Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 What sound does a cat make as it's coughing up a hairball? Ha... ha... HA... HA... laaaaakkkkkkkk. Someone needs to tell Harry that it's 64 feet from the blue line to the goal line.
JujuFish Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Nice to see Vanek with three assists tonight.
... Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Vanek TOI 19:40. Hecht 19:41. Interesting, interesting. I like Hecht's turnaround this season.
Calvin Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Vanek TOI 19:40. Hecht 19:41. Interesting, interesting. I like Hecht's turnaround this season. I've really noticed Hecht's play pickup especially so in the last couple of games.. after last season, the only way to go was up or out the door.
Stoner Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Vanek TOI 19:40. Hecht 19:41. Interesting, interesting. I like Hecht's turnaround this season. And some shorthanded time.
sabresnutinphoenix Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 I missed a great Sabres game tonight because I watched those bums in Toronto...
Hawerchuk Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Yeah, eat that, Habs fans!!! I love this post!!
VansTheMans Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 As the Habs fans started to exit the building with 5 minutes in the third, I got my 300 section to chant "HABS GO HOME, HABS GO HOME". God, you gotta love beating those French Canadians. Thoughts on the game: The Vanek Kennedy Grier line is great. I knew this line could be something special as soon as Lindy put it out on the ice. All three forwards seem to be on the same page; keep it simple. Work down low, and get the puck to the net. There is some real nice chemistry developing between those players. I think Kennedy has TREMENDOUS upside; he could be something worth holding on to Vanek really showed that he does have playmaking vision tonight. He is not just a one trick power play scoring pony. His pass to Grier for the last goal of the night was simply phenomenal. Stafford and MacArthur are meshing well with TC. Stafford is on one of his "Im actually going to show up and play" streaks. We'll see how long that lasts. MacArthur is vastly improved from a season ago. His feet seem to be lighter, and you can see him put his head down and really give it his all every rush up the ice. TC will never be a true number one center (even though he has the skill set) because he refuses to play with an edge. But, he is what he is, and as long as he puts up a point per game, I'm happy. The old 06-07 Briere line is back (with Roy subbing in as Briere). Hecht has been playing well (I think he's been solid all season), and his offense is showing a little upswing playing with Pommers again. Pommers has been getting a bunch of scoring opps as of late, and he finally put one in tonight. Keep it going Jpom. Roy is...Roy. He dances around too much, but he gets the puck into the zone, plays a solid dgame and somehow puts up points every game. The defense was solid for the most part. The real star of the night in the back end was -gasp!- Tony Lydman. He played his best night all season. He was a monster. The Canadians couldn't get around him when he was on the ice. He had a very strong game defensively, and made smart plays to get the puck up the ice. I'm usually pretty critical on dmen, but I have to say, he had a flawless game.

His pass to Grier for the last goal of the night was simply phenomenal. This move by Ruff looks more and more brilliant by the day. I think this will have some long term ramifications as well. Vanek will finally turn into the two-way forward that Ruff has been wanting him to become.. he's backchecking harder, fighting for the puck, getting more ice time, even playing on the PK and best of all, finally improving on his assists total! As for Kennedy, this might be the transition into making him a Top 6 forward, both on the creating and receiving ends of good scoring chances. Vanek will create gaps and there will be rebounds from Vanek's shots, and we have seen both Kennedy and Grier fighting hard for the puck down low. And with Grier playing the elder statesman on that combo, this line is becoming something to fear!

LabattBlue Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Game thoughts... - I was at the game last night(now 4-0 for the season! :D ). - The Canadiens could not have looked more disinterested during the first two periods, which was great because all their fans had absolutely NOTHING to cheer about. When they scored their two goals, it was like they had won the Cup. They were an absolute train wreck in their own end and were lucky the score wasn't 10-0 after two periods. - I continue to marvel at how smooth a skater Myers is. - Before Pominville scored in the first, he had two other great chances(one of which was blocked). He could have easily had a hat trick in the first period. - Nice to see Kennedy get rewarded on the score sheet. I continue to be impressed by his willingness to take the body and it just reinforces my belief that playing physical has nothing to do with how tall you are or how much you weigh. It's all about WANTING to do it. - Sekera showed some nice dash to his game. If he can be more consistent in this regard, it would really help the offense. - I'd really like to see McCormick get a shot on the 4th line over Mair or Ellis(until Gaustad comes back). Mair is a shadow of his former self and as I stated a couple of games ago, Ellis is JAG. - Vanek's work ethic has been noticeably better since being placed on the line with Kennedy and Grier. I even saw him throw a nice check in the 3rd period. - Good start to an important homestand!!!
LabattBlue Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 As part of my game thoughts, I was going to put in a sentence about Butler having one of those games where you don't notice him good or bad. I just now read that he left the game in the 1st period with a ankle sprain.
