Yes...because we have did not "compete for the cup" in 05-06, or 06-07?

Sorry but the Stanley Cup Finals are not in the same realm as the rest of the playoffs. Until you make the Final dance, you're just a team competing for a chance to compete.

Unlike most posters on this board (or so it seemed), I always liked Max. I am happy for him. He seems like a good guy. It is too bad that he is getting that production for another team. I will never forget the atmosphere at HSBC when he scored that goal against the Rangers in the playoffs.

Touche', I guess, I dont' know, everytime I take a seat in HSBC Arena I look up to the pennants flying off of the cieling, I don't see a Stanley Cup Banner hanging up there. In no way is my opinion against yourself, I just call it as I see it. There is no trophy for second place. The bottom line on this team from my point of view is a lack of consistent scoring, and not just 1 superstar, put hey, lets be honest, Buffalo isn't going to get far in the playoffs.

Hasek attempted to carry this team to the cup, it failed, close but no cigar. Miller is no Hasek, he is good, but not even close to what Hasek was, a complete game controller. No, we are going to need contributions from the forwards and Dmen to score goals. Great teams find ways to win games in many different ways. This schedule is just now getting busy, lets see who shows up for the Sabres.

As for the playoffs, this team doesn't stand a chance against Pitt, NYR, ATL, Wash or NJ in the playoffs, not enough offensive fire power I'm afraid. What made Drury and Briere succeed here was chemistry, they fit in with this group of players and lead them through 2 very successful seasons. That is gone and the rebuilding process for the front lines must now begin.

I don't think that many here disliked Max, the person; most disliked what had become of Max, the player. He always played hard, if nothing else. However, whether it was all his fault or the blame could be shared by Lindy and his linemates, Max wasn't producing, he was missing great opportunities and was a giveaway machine (at the worst possible opportunities.) Basically, he was shooting like Pommer and stick handling like Roy. He's found a connection with Kovalchuk and Antropov. Good for him.

Why doesn't this team stand a chance against the rangers, Atlanta or devils? They haven't done anything to demonstrata they are clearly superior to the sabres. Washington and Pitt are the class of the conference, but in a seven game series, anything can happen. That's why they play the games.

True, miller is not hasek in his prime, but we have more offense and arguably a better d than we did in those years. It all depends on who gets hot when the playoffs start.

Exactly. Back in '05-'06, no one though Buffalo had a chance against the Sens. They were absolutely decimated in the regular season matchups. Pominville scoring the game-winning, series-clinching, shorthanded, overtime goal of that series is one of my favorite Sabres moments.

I still believe that if it weren't for injuries, that would have been Buffalo's year. Oh well.

It is number 1 in my book. It was so shocking...

Watching Isles and Atlanta tonight.

Thrashers getting killed one night after the Buffalo mugging.

Max has two goals tonight for Atlanta.

Edit: 5 - 4 now.. Pretty entertaining game on the Island. Rooting for Atlanta. I feel bad for them after last night.

Well said. In addition, even without all those mistakes, Max doesn't play the kind of hockey the Sabres play now... he plays the kind of hockey they played the first 2 years after the work stoppage. You can't win with that style of hockey anymore, because the officials will allow teams to shut you down with tactics that weren't allowed a few years ago. Atlanta is finding that out... they play the Sabres old style... Max looks great - and they have absolutely no chance of winning because of it.
