Stoner Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 Right, but they called up Ennis rather than play Paestch. Yeah and then Sekera got forward duty before Paetsch did. I really wish Paetsch could play a bigger role here. I've always liked the guy.
Stoner Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 It shouldn't have been a penalty in the first place. He was playing the dude with the puck, the dude was spinning when he was hit and happened to hit the glass with his face. Then, of course, players are getting wise and staying down after a hit like that. I think this was more than likely the case here. Not sure what the puck has to do with it. Edit: The Flyer never returned to the game.
Stoner Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 I don't think I've heard RJ this excited in a while. He had a great game. I almost wish they'd let him pick and choose 41 games. When he's into it, he's as good as ever.
Stoner Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 I want to apologize for my vulgar outburst after the first period. A little over the line. :)
darksabre Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 Dude went to the penalty box. lmao That was hilarious. He knew he deserved to go, but the refs all missed it so he got away with it. I liked his shoulder shrug on the bench. Pictured him thinking "Alright, whatever, I mean I should be in the box but...oookay."

I don't see why they can't use tv replay for the refs on things like that..
shrader Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 Edit: The Flyer never returned to the game. Players are showing a whole new level of dedication to their diving abilities.
ThePebble19 Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 I want to apologize for my vulgar outburst after the first period. A little over the line. :) Lol...I read that while listening to the Philly announcers at work today and actually burst out laughing...it was funny to see you break normal character.
carpandean Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 One of the more exciting games of the year to watch. Glad they came away with a win. Losing Goose is no good, though.
... Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 Not sure what the puck has to do with it. You understand the way the game is played, yes? Hockey, I mean.
wonderbread Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 So don't watch anymore ... makes me wonder if you are one of the many that was so disgusted w/ their lack of signings in the off season, only to say that again they will NOT be a playoff team. SOB it's not even December! I think they played well enough to win both vs. Boston and Washington but didn't get the bounces. The hard was there both of those games so I think it'll come. But Lalime having to play 15 or so games does worry me. Don't worry about me pal. I love this team.

The Flyer had the puck! WTF?

Although it'd be nice to have that to review plays that result in injuries, you'd be adding a lot more stoppages in play for the video booth wanting to have the refs call penalties they didn't see. It sort of changes the game dynamics.
R_Dudley Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 I want to apologize for my vulgar outburst after the first period. A little over the line. :) Made me LOL. Hey if you weren't a fan it wouldn't do stuff like that to the blood pressure. My kids tell me yelling at the TV is silly because it will not respond. I say I know but it makes the old man feel better. I hope they play like that tomorrow and make the 3+ hour drive worth the price of admission. At least there will be some noise for the home team.
R_Dudley Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 Don't worry about me pal. I love this team. Love to hate eh ?
wonderbread Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 Love to hate eh ? meet the thin line I live on.
R_Dudley Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 meet the thin line I live on. Then your a Sabres fan for sure. ;)
FanOf52 Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 Rivet is not a huge loss, IMO...he has been one of our worst D-men...Gaustad will hurt a bit though. Will be interested to see who, if anyone, they bring up. Maybe Mancari? Seems like the same type of player. Stats don`t support your assumption. And I can`t believe what I see here. One part of winning is always up to captain, the leader in locker room(and that, by the way, is something this team does not have too much). It is a big loss, like it or not! I really hope he will be back soon!!
Stoner Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 You understand the way the game is played, yes? Hockey, I mean. Ohhhhhhh, that black thingie? I guess I'm not sure what you're saying. Possession doesn't play into boarding. Watching the replay, it also could have been called checking from behind.

Watching the replay, it also could have been called checking from behind. What I'm saying is that I don't think it was boarding, or checking from behind, or any other infraction worth a penalty. I thought saying "It shouldn't have been a penalty in the first place...." would have made that unambiguous enough. The Flyer had the puck and was facing the blue line, he was right by the wall. Only because a fraction of a second before Kaleta hit him he started to turn with the puck. No one could avoid that and to say there was an intentional action worthy of a penalty there is ludicrous.

Intent doesn't play into it. Position relative to the boards doesn't either. The Flyer never faced the blue line. Kaleta could have avoided it. These guys are so good at controlling their bodies. It's an interesting call. Reading the rules literally, when the call is boarding, it doesn't matter if the player has turned his back deliberately. But there's no penalty for checking from behind if the ref deems a player has tried to "buy a call." I watched the replay carefully, and it's a big stretch to say the Flyer was doing that.
spndnchz Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 Player for player. Stafford was out and they wanted a "top six forward" type to replace him. I'd think they'd pull up McCormick for Goose. edit that, Ellis will play.
bob_sauve28 Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 If I was in charge of handing out suspensions in the NHL I'd hand out three in this game. Kaleta would get 5 for trying to kill that guy Richards would get two for ripping the helmet off of Myers with his stick. and the guy that deliberatly hit Rivet's skate while he was heading into the boards leading to his injury should get at least two games. I watched that on reply and saw the stick go for the skates. And I'd give Hartnell a few for being ugly.
Figster Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 We need Tim Connolly to play like a man possessed each and every time out. Good game today for Connolly, but we need to see more of the same...
