CallawaySabres Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 Jauron was fired, rumors of a top coach were in sight and Sabres just came off of best weekend in years. Now, the Bills will be last in line again at the end of the season when coaches are looking and the Sabres are a broken record. Why would I EVER let myself look at this Sabres team differently. What makes me sick to my stomach is that they don't wait until they are down 2 goals or 3 goal but 4 FOOKIN GOALS to put some effort in!!!??? Are you kidding me! This is not one guy but practically an entire team lacking effort AGAIN!!! Mentality is still the same and it just SUCKS!

CallawaySabres Posted November 22, 2009 Author Report Posted November 22, 2009 And yet, totally inexplicably, the coach is never in the crosshairs. I am DEFINITELY guilty of this. Do I think Lindy is a great Coach? Yes, but maybe it is time since these guys simply do not respond. The past is the past and if Ruff had a new group of leaders in here (with talent) things may be different. Unfortunately, the same non-responsive group is kept in tact and nothing is changing. If Lindy left, I would be the first one to wish him luck on winning a cup with another team (as long as it was not at the expense of the one we have here)
notwoz Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 And yet, totally inexplicably, the coach is never in the crosshairs. isn't that because Darcy decides on who the team signs, and the coach is stuck trying to figure out how to make sense of what he is stuck with?
Stoner Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 isn't that because Darcy decides on who the team signs, and the coach is stuck trying to figure out how to make sense of what he is stuck with? Over the summer Lindy said he was happy with the lineup. Recently, during good times, he said he was happy with the fresh faces who are here (Myers, Kennedy, Montador, Grier). He said four new faces on a 23-man roster is "about right." He's been involved, to some degree, in drafts, trade deadline decisions, free agency and player personnel moves. His hands are not clean. He's had every opportunity to leave for greener pastures if he's unhappy with the players he's getting. The coach also bears a big responsibility for how those players turns out. Kotalik, Afinogenov and even Paille are doing well out from under this guy's thumb. This dog won't hunt.
Buffalo Wings Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 So, when does Grier return? Can't help but think this recent slide coincides with his injury.
inkman Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 And yet, totally inexplicably, the coach is never in the crosshairs. Well, are the players in the crosshairs? I'm still not convinced they have top end talent on offense. I think the 3rd and 4th line as currently constructed are good NHL lines, but the first two lines are less than spectacular. Let's break it down: Vanek - World Class Sniper, but leaves much to be desired in every other facet of the game. Not sure if coaching is the problem. Roy - Was a great 3rd line center and is a decent 2nd line center, but does not qualify as a legit # 1 center. Connolly - The Skill has wonderful hands, is is good on the PP but somehow his play doesn't seem to translate into team success. Pominville - A great complimentary player who is probably asked to do more than he's capable of. He'll pot his 25-30 but the Sabres need more consistency from him. Stafford - I'm not convinced he's a top 6 player. He has top 6 talent but doesn't ever seem to put it together for more than a shift or two a game. MacArthur - I'm not convinced he's a top 6 player either. Good hands, plays well in tight, decent shot, good skater but rarely do you see him if he's not scoring. While all of these guys could play a role on any teams second line, I'm not sure if any would play many other teams top line. Before all the Vanek fanbois start flaming, there is something seriously wrong with his game. Lack of assists, effort, defense, I'm not sure but it's obvious he has major holes in his game.

Stoner Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Hows Campbell and Drury doin? No clue. Edit: Actually, just looking at Chris' numbers, there wasn't much of a dropoff from WNY to Manhattan.
darksabre Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Hows Campbell and Drury doin? Shh stop with that logic business.
Stoner Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Shh stop with that logic business. Riiiiiight. Just looked up Soupy's nutritional info, and he enjoyed a career year last season in Chicago.

Fickle fanbois fan the flames of fatuousness and fist the fannies of Franceschetti and ... OK, I'm spent. Now, you do realize that Tom is well on pace to one day have his number retired in Buffalo, right? (Yes, that relies on the LQ's disgraceful dilution of the standard for such an honor...) I don't think his fans need to be slurred like that. What, you need some new fans to whip, now that Maxi is gone?

Very fair analysis of the top 6 IMO. Vanek will never be the complete player (offense, defense, & intangibles) that fans hoped for and that 7 million per year merits, but we all knew at the time that management overpaid him as part of their damage control after Drury and Briere left town. We're only 20-some games into the season and he's going through an impressive slump. I still expect some goals (35 or 40) from him, but not much else.

Lindy abandoned his plan to make Tom into the best two way player after about 10 games last season. And he's not making good on his promise of "elite" ice time this season. What more can Vanek do besides score those 40 goals and be responsible defensively? Lindy's asking him to stand in front of the net on power plays and tip shots, and that's what he's doing.

I don't think his fans need to be slurred like that. What, you need some new fans to whip, now that Maxi is gone? I guess I just have a certain amount of disdain for fans who attach themselves to individual players. Just too much player movement and non-loyalty for me to ever feel like that. Fans can choose who they want to root for and how they want to root for them, I choose not to do it their way.
Mbossy Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 No clue. Edit: Actually, just looking at Chris' numbers, there wasn't much of a dropoff from WNY to Manhattan. Drury dropped off in goals after he left. IIRC, someone took a look at all the ex-Sabres at one point last year and they all dropped off except for Dumont. Drury might not be back for quite some time with his third concussion.
nfreeman Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Kotalik, Afinogenov and even Paille are doing well out from under this guy's thumb. It's awfully early to jump to conclusions about how well those 3 will do with their new teams. Also, Kotalik had 23 and 25 goals his last 2 full (ie not injury-shortened) years with Buffalo. He's got 6 goals in 22 games with the Rangers. No improvement there, other than to his bank account.
