Sig1Hunter Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 Why the heck is it that the only time I can get the HD feed on my Center Ice subscription I have to listen to the opposing team announcers? I haven't seen a Sabres feed in HD all season long.

I haven't seen a Sabres feed in HD all season long. You're not going to. Dolan, who owns Cablevision and MSG, wants more money from Center Ice to carry his HD feeds to out of market areas, and Center Ice won't do it. If you don't live in the local market, then you don't get HD. Ain't it grand? I wanted to jump through my screen last night and beat the crap out of Jack Edwards. He's such a douche!

FWIW, I've heard Bettman say they are working on getting the MSG HD feeds up on CI and he's cautiously optimistic it will happen in the not too distant future.
Foligno's Nose Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 Completely unacceptable and a goddamn disgrace by Bettman & co. Not that last night's game was anything special to witness (unless you are a SENS fan (bad jerseys). I was on the road last night traveling through Clarence/ Amherst and all points southwest of there. I stopped at Buffalo Wild Wings, paid 3.25 for a bottle of Canadian, passed on the overpriced wings and settled into a nice barstool, front and center for the face off. Immediately I was aggravated to see this poor quality, less than SD broadcast. This is what Bettman is trying to sell in the southern US and the rest of the world??? What about potentially new fans and established ones in a proven NHL/ hockey market - like HERE. Continuing.... I traveled on to Dave & Buster's (I know, I know...). Beer was a little cheaper and still overpriced. The SD picture was stretched out on the multiple screens around the bar and elsewhere. It was an improvement, but still poor compared to the Rangers v. Panthers HD feeds on the few screens in between the Sabres v. Senators majority. If I was in the Sabres management, responsible for marketing and such, I would be deeply concerend about how the team is being presented to the world. This is early 80's picture quality for crissakes! It reminded me of the garbage Sabres v. Whalers broadcasts from the Hartford Civic Center - yeeechhh. Again... Completely unacceptable and just plain sad. Congratulations Gary, you _____ (insert derogatory, vile and possibly obscene noun here)!!!
ntjacks79 Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 Extremely good post. And you didn't even mention Versus not being on DirecTV. :( Unfortunately, if we ever get the Sabres again where we can actually SEE what is going on, we'll see a team that shows up for about 4 out of every 10 games - and then in the press conferences afterward (in crystal HD) shakes their heads and say how they just can't understand that they didn't come out with more effort. The TV situation in the NHL is a joke... and the Sabres core players are too. Completely unacceptable and a goddamn disgrace by Bettman & co. JJFIVEOH Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 I can't speak for the other Center Ice games but I don't think this game was their fault. I've got NHL GameCenter and had the Sabres broadcast (second time in twelve games) which was in standard def as well. So I don't think there was a HiDef broadcast. The one thing I don't understand is if they have the ability and the equipment to broadcast in HiDef, how come ALL the games aren't broadcast in HiDef? It's the same thing down here for Panthers games. Some games are standard, and some are HD. But, it's not like certain games are this way i.e. road games vs. away games. There are select home games that are HD and the rest are standard. I understand there are contractual agreements which need to be worked out if the NHL wants to increase their popularity via internet or third party cable subscription....... but it's the same issue for locals and their local feed (at least down here it is) and that's not right.

I think that except for games against New York, New Jersey, and Long Island, none of the Sabres' road games are broadcast in HD on MSG.
Foligno's Nose Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 http://www.hdsportsguide.com/nhl/ http://www.nhl.com/ice/app It looks like some of the CBC games from Ottawa are not broadcast in HD. Sorry, try this or figure it out: http://www.nhl.com/ice/schedulebyseason.htm?team=ott
VansTheMans Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 I have Time Warner and live in the Buffalo area. I have HD. I get MSG HD, but the feed is never HD. Its simply the SD broadcast being displayed on MSG HD. Anyone else experience this?

(Channel 700 is only operative during Sabres' games that are broadcast in HD, so don't bother trying it this afternoon or anything.)

johnyvegas Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 so, does anyone have any info about the MSG 'SABRES' channel and it's availability in Syracuse? We're supposed to be a Sabres market... but no HD love here yet.
kasper13 Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 I have TW Cable and live right near Buffalo. No Center Ice. Anyhow, road games not in HD aggravates me to no end. Sabres home games are in HD on Channel 700. Also, road games at the Rangers, Islanders and Devils will also be shown in HD this year. Saturday against Ottawa, the picture was totally brutal. One channel down on the NHL Network HD channel, Toronto vs. Washington in HD. Never have gotten a straight answer as to why ALL Sabres games are not in HD. I don't know know if it's the Dolan's, if it's the Sabres or what. My best guess is it has to do with money somewhere. Not like we don't pay enough for cable as it is. If I can watch HNIC in HD on the NHL Network, I see no reason why all the Sabres games can't be in HD. I'd probably even pay a few extra bucks. Watching the Sabres Saturday was like watching the game on a 6" black and white fuzzy tv in 1978, which I did but I was 6 and it was free and they didn't have HD yet.

I'm having problems putting in the link, but you can see it here: http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/story/807449.html The Sabres have previously said their contract with MSG doesn't require the regional sports network to carry all the team's road games in HD until the 2012-13 season.
