carpandean Posted December 3, 2009 Author Report Posted December 3, 2009 Carp, why do you bother putting that 93 point pace line in the figures? Just as a reminder. As MattPie said, I could have said it in the title, but I figured a labeled line was the clearest way. I thought about putting together my own sheet, but then I realized how much work is was. :) Thanks for the effort! It's not bad if you start at the beginning of the season and take two minutes each night (I usually do it before going to bed to catch all scores.) Catching up if you fall behind sucks, though. This one is fun, too: It shows why I look at the net of 93 pace chart more, but also shows how long of a season it is and how far anyone is from making the playoffs.
shrader Posted December 3, 2009 Report Posted December 3, 2009 Just as a reminder. As MattPie said, I could have said it in the title, but I figured a labeled line was the clearest way. Eliminate the grid lines and you've got a labeled line.

Eleven Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 See, Hockey Gods, showing the good and the bad. And the ugly, tonight.
LabattBlue Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 You know what would make a great chart? Projected regular season point scoring totals for all Sabres based on current numbers. :worthy:

Roy Points: ConnollyPoints: Pommer Points: Vanek Points: Vanek Goals (warning: depressing):  (OP updated, too.)

Roy Points: ConnollyPoints: Pommer Points: Vanek Points: Vanek Goals (warning: depressing):  (OP updated, too.) Vanek needs a non-linear prediction trendline. Given the way he's playing now, he might just be lethal if we make the playoffs. ;) Thanks Carp for doing these.
carpandean Posted December 13, 2009 Author Report Posted December 13, 2009 They could cut wood with the saw teeth that they are putting up. Another interesting one for you guys: The horizontal axis is however many points the eighth-place team (for same games played) has. The blue dashed line is my 93-point pace. Unfortunately, since you need all teams to have played a number of games before you can rank them, several teams will be well beyond the point shown (for example, tonight's game is not included.)
carpandean Posted December 19, 2009 Author Report Posted December 19, 2009 Interesting mass of teams in the 8-14 spots. Right now, the "playoffs" are way off of the 93-point pace (see my new chart.)
SDS Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 you know, I can probably automate this process and just have it update when the score is updated.
wjag Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 you know, I can probably automate this process and just have it update when the score is updated. Geek :worthy:

carpandean Posted January 4, 2010 Author Report Posted January 4, 2010 Yeah, yeah ... I was only one game behind. The Sabres have a chance to move ahead of their 2005-06 selves again in the next couple of games.
... Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Yeah, yeah ... I was only one game behind. The Sabres have a chance to move ahead of their 2005-06 selves again in the next couple of games. No complaints here! It's just that I'm addicted. Thank you!
carpandean Posted January 7, 2010 Author Report Posted January 7, 2010 Same points as 2005-06 through the first half (though, traded two OT losses for one of their wins) and a better start to the second half.
Knightrider Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Only five teams above the 93 point line? That seems odd. I wonder if the how the top 8 have fared against the western conference, and if we might be wary of running into a buzz saw on the western swing...

Most of the top teams in the East have winning records against the West.
spndnchz Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Most of the top teams in the East have winning records against the West. Of all teams in each conference: 6 of the 15 teams in the East having winning records vs West teams Those 6 teams are in the top 8 of the East conference. 10 of the 15 teams in the West have winning records vs East teams. All 8 of the top 8 have winning records vs East teams. So far the Sabres are 7-0 vs West Conf teams.
carpandean Posted January 7, 2010 Author Report Posted January 7, 2010 6 8 of the 15 teams in the East having winning records vs West teams Those 6 of those 8 teams are in the top 8 of the East conference. In the top 8: Devils (4-3-1) Penguins(5-4-1) Rangers (6-5-1) Sabres (7-0-0) Bruins (5-4-1) Capitals (5-4-1) Out of the top 8: Thrashers (6-4-0) Panthers (5-3-2) Technically, the Sabres and Rangers Thrashers (thanks Juju) are the only ones with winning records (more wins than losses); everyone else is .500 in W-L.
LabattBlue Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 In spite of their success, I can often be critical of the Sabres, but the chart doesn't lie...they are racking up the points and that is the bottom line.
carpandean Posted January 7, 2010 Author Report Posted January 7, 2010 In spite of their success, I can often be critical of the Sabres, but the chart doesn't lie...they are racking up the points and that is the bottom line. They've banked enough that I feel more comfortable than I thought I would. However, if they match Carolina's first half performance in the second half, they'll end up with 85 points and out of the playoffs. Matching the Maple Leafs' first half in the second would put them on the bubble at 93 points. So, there's still a lot of work to do.
