inkman Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Linky Gotta love unbiased media! Ryan Miller -- In a season that has seen several goaltenders get off to blazing starts, no one has done more with less than Miller, who won all three of his starts last week while allowing only four goals -- even though his team scored only six non-empty netters. He leads the League in wins (12), goals-against average (1.77) and save percentage (.939) Are they suggesting the Sabres D is subpar? Have they watched any of the games? I'd say the Sabres defense is among the league's most effective right now.

It's written poorly, but still, it's pretty clear that they're talking about how the Sabres haven't scored all that much in front of him.
darksabre Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 The Sabres rank 19th in GPG at 2.71. The league leaders are 3.5. I'd say that's a pretty significant lack in offense. Barely scoring three goals per game is going to require heavy reliance on goaltending, considering an opposing team is likely to score at least one goal in a game. The Sabres should be concerned they aren't closer to the 3 per game mark.
Eric in Akron Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 The Sabres should be concerned they aren't closer to the 3 per game mark. I think the Sabres are playing a heavy defensive system and that is why the offense is down. On the flip side, the defense has been much better and they are winning games. If you have to play team defense to win games and you loose some offense then you do it since it wins you games. Now if they were giving up goals in buckets and a GPG at 2.71 then yes I would be heavily concerned.
Foligno's Nose Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 Congrats to Ryan. Now... Get the man some reliable back-up goaltending.
