What is wrong with Vanek

I seriously doubt it was Vanek's idea to write this book. Of course he could have said no but I'm positive the publisher is just seeking to take advantage of his status in Austria and other parts of Europe. Nobody gives a crap here.

GO SABRES!!!

I also agree that this autobiog is not Vanek's idea. I don't REALLY think he's that stuck up, but if I were him, I'd at least have a little bit of pride and tell whoever is pushing it that "hey, I'm not enough of a legend to do this yet."

Self actualization is key here. You have to know where you stand. Is a couple quick bucks worth more than proving yourself?

If he starts scoring goals again at the pace we know he's capable of, he can proclaim himself king or emperor for all I care, however until such events occur, I think he should call his autobiography "The Easiest 7 Mill. Ever Made", volumes 1 through 7.

Nothing against Thomas as I like that he seems to work hard when snakebitten, but you'd think he was being paid enough to worry about playing hockey and only that. Cause in case he hasn't noticed his game could use the attention.

Oh well, 6-game winning streak going. Hard to be negative - Moving on.

Nothing. He will pot 30 goals this season. THAT IS $233,000 (two hundred and thrity three THOUSAND DOLLARS) per goal.

He will be valuable in the playoffs when he gets some ugly goals by staning in fron of the net. The one thing he needs to do is draw more penalties. He needs to get into the messy areas of the rink and get a little dirty. He needs a little lesson from Dino Ciccerelli on how to get your nose dirty!

I lived in Detroit for 6 years and there were times when their top scorers went into serious funks. As long as the team is winning you knew eventually they'd snap out of it (often at playoff time).

Vanek is contributing (like his great pass to set up Myers' first goal last night), I'm not going to worry about it.

You might want to look up his salary this year.

I hate to say it but I think Vanek is a dueche. He may not be an ingrate or egotistical but the way he handles things is less than desirable. I can't place a finger on it but I think he's a tool. It's unfortunate this franchise is tied to him for the foreseeable future.

I was watching the shootout last night and when they called Vanek I was like "watch, he's gonna miss it, then swear at himself and grimace".

And then he did.

The guy is a waste.

False, he will not "pot" 30 this season. He'll be lucky to "pot" 20. That would be $349,500 (three hundred forty-nine thousand five hundred DOLLARS) per goal.

At this currnet rate, I highly doubt he shows up to the playoffs at all. He's been hugely invisible for vast amounts of the season already.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if he's the next top-6 forward to sit.

At least he was working his butt off two weeks ago, now he appears to take every other shift completely off.

Sure, he's been getting a few assist lately but at his pricetag that's just not cutting it and knowing Ruff, he's using every possible opportunity to tell Vanek just that.

I have been watching him more and more the last couple of games. I am not sure he ever moved his feet great, but his legs seem sluggish and stiff. Can't tell if that is a leg issue, hip or lower back, but he doesn't seem to be able to pivot the way he used to. Could be groin, what ever it is, it seems to be affecting his legs. He is hitting more than I have ever seen him, so I can't see it being his upper body and that probably rules out his back too....

Even when he seems to have speed, his change of direction ability looks stiff.

It's not Vanek. It's the system and no, this is not another Lindy bashing post. Offense starts in the defensive zone. When all five guys are forced to skate a full 200 feet to the other goal, through all five of their guys, your not going to get a lot of goals, especially from a skater like Vanek.

Get the puck, set up the play, don't take chances, and no mistakes. It's why we never see a Sabre get behind their D and never see the home run pass. It's a defense first system. I don't like it, but I personally think Vanek has been doing a pretty good job in it.

Interesting thought... hmm and your observations are well taken and as you implied it doesn't seem to suit Vanek's game.... I still think there is something a little askew with him physically though...

I agree. Something's just not quite right with him, (EDIT)but I still don't think it matters.

Problem is, and this pokes a little hole in the theory, Vanek hasn't done well in exclusively offensive-minded situations either.. on 2-on-1 breakaways his pass is either off or his shooting is high.. his snapshot in the slot has no snap and the shots are off-target.. even on the penalty shootout he has been quite poor.

I like that he gets pissed off at himself when he messes up, cos it shows that he's not jaded and given up, but it's not working. Hidden injury? Psychological issue? Who knows..

It seems Lindy and Vanek have been at odds since his rookie year, when he downright benched him for disappearing. That was what, five seasons ago? That's alot of bad history. To me, Vanek's a combination Slavakoleslaw-itis, bad conditioning, unwillingness to mix it up due to the aftereffects of the broken jaw, malaise in Buffalo and aftereffects of having all this fame and fortune heaped on him undeservedly.

Checked out TV's site today and he posted up an interview from last month. Talked about all the injuries last season and this about Boychuk:

Question: But that still wasn’t the end to your injury troubles.

Vanek: Sadly, no. The first game against Boston in the playoffs was a good one for me and my team. After that they took me effectively out of the series.

Question: Can you describe the attack once more?

Vanek: First there was the slash against my knee that took me down. Next I was sliding into the boards with Boychuk. When I hit the boards I twisted my ankle and then Boychuk stepped on it, cutting into the muscles.

Question: A similar injury to one Paul Gaustad already had?

Vanek: Yes, only I was lucky that Boychuk only partially tore my muscles and not the tendon. Otherwise my season would have ended right then and there.

Question: Still, you managed to return quite quickly and in shape.

Vanek: “In shape” might be a bit exaggerated. We simply tried everything to get me back on the ice. The first few days there was nothing to be done, I couldn’t even put any weight on the foot. When I was finally ready to get back on the ice we had to tape the ankle so heavily that it felt more like a cast. To be honest: I’m happy that we tried and did all that, even if it wasn’t enough to get us past Boston.

But they still will. :wallbash:

If only he were from Angola.

And he's expecting twins this season!

Great!

I guess he's not going to take a shot at Lindy this offseason. Damn, that was the only thing getting me through these dog days.

And Angola is also a country that starts with the letter A. I think we're well on our way to uncovering some super secret conspiracy here.
