LabattBlue Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 This wasn't a case where the Sabres passed on Kopitar, but the Kings drafted him at #11 in 2005 and 2 picks later...the Sabres get Zagrapan. I know there are dozens of scenarios like this, but this one comes to mind, as Kopitar continues to develop into a really good player. That being said, I don't know if anything(from a Sabres perspective) will ever top them drafting Seiling, followed by the Islanders drafting Bossy with the very next pick.

I'm not too well-versed with the other teams in the NHL either, but i think the players in bold have just started coming on in the last year or so, some not even for their original teams either

No one knows if Kopitar would have been their pick, but I was commenting more on how close he was selected to the Sabres pick versus busting on Regier for his selection of Zagrapan.

shrader Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 It's not far behind Kryukov IMHO. Nothing comes close to that one. At least Zagrapan spent 3 years in the organization and drafting him actually made sense. They don't always work out, it's a fact of life in the NHL draft, but the Kryukov pick was doomed from the start.

He is ONLY 27 and tied his career high in goals last year! http://hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=59430

That much beloved scouting department by some people produced that gem of a 2000 draft. Yeah, it doesn't back up the system they use today, but it's good proof to the idea that everyone screws up from time to time. And speaking of 2000 drafts. My god Buffalo got killed that year. Both the Bills and the Sabres may have put together their worst drafts in team history that year.
