inkman Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 The only Amerks games I was going to attend, and I'm sure I'm not alone, was when they played the Sabres affiliate this year. In typical Amerks fashion, they pull the rug out from under it's local fanbase and move their first game with the Pirates to HSBC. Thanks Amerks!
carpandean Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 And they'll do it again in March. I'm making the drive to watch next Thursday's game. Hard to pass up row 15 in 100 preferred for $25. I don't know what the arrangement is between Portland/Sabres and the Amerks, but I'm sure that the Sabres wanted the Pirates here and made it worth the Amerks' while to do it.
wjag Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 Who are the Amerks? Do they play field hockey or something?
carpandean Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 I grew up watching them. :( Me, too, and I will definitely be a little torn about who I want to win. It was such a great situation before the break-up. You could watch the current NHL players of the organization in Buffalo and the future ones in Rochester. Now, it's two different organizations, which sucks. I became a Sabres fan when all of my favorite Amerks (Gage, aside) headed West. Unfortunately, I became a bigger Sabres despite being in Rochester, mostly because they are the NHL team. I still love the Amerks conceptually, but dislike their management and, of course, their NHL affiliate.

If it happened with us, I'll bet lots of fans feel the same way. Donner left this organization for dead and the current ownership had zero idea how alienated the Amerks fanbase was. Attendance was at a franchise low last year. I think they have rebounded slightly this year but until the Sabres come back, this franchise will continue to flounder.

This is a first time post but have been a long time reader. I felt I needed to correct your statement. The Amerks actually have helped us in this situation as they will play their 2 road games vs Portland in Buffalo and their 2 home games vs. Portland in Rochester in February. Thus we all get more of an opportunity to see the Sabres prospects in Western New York. Just figured I would pass it along. Thanks

I did look atr their schedule and I will attend the games in Rochester in February. Although I don't see making the hour hike to see Nathan Gerbe look even smaller because I'm 500 feet farther away from the ice than I would be at the BCA.

But then you won't get a good view of every single time he dives or draws a roughing call by falling on top of an opposing player's stick.
