wonderbread Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 ...the 5th of November! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8UtojJT8ts&feature=related The tube doesn't work at work. I can only imagine that the attached link includes this little gem... Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant and vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition! The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. [laughs] Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me "V".
Eleven Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Since I've never seen that movie, and I didn't know about Guy Fawkes masks generally (but I knew of 11/5 and the gunpowder plot), I was a little creeped out by what appeared to be a standing army of inkmen paying homage to some sort of inkman idol. Now, though, I'm going to have to watch the movie.

LabattBlue Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 I'm completely confused and feeling old. :D
inkman Posted November 5, 2009 Author Report Posted November 5, 2009 I'm completely confused and feeling old. :D So you feel like PA.
Eleven Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 I'm completely confused and feeling old. :D There's no way that you're older than Guy Fawkes.
darksabre Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Guy Fawkes Day: Irrelevant until V for Vendetta was made. I mean seriously, who gave a crap about the 5th of November until this movie?
Eleven Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Guy Fawkes Day: Irrelevant until V for Vendetta was made. I mean seriously, who gave a crap about the 5th of November until this movie? You mean in the US, right? I hear it's a pretty big deal overseas.
wonderbread Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Guy Fawkes Day: Irrelevant until V for Vendetta was made. I mean seriously, who gave a crap about the 5th of November until this movie? My wife. Then again its her birthday.
wjag Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 My wife. Then again its her birthday. Well now, wish her a happy birthday from some complete strangers at Sabrespace..
darksabre Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 You mean in the US, right? I hear it's a pretty big deal overseas. Right.
Seannie34 Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 Guy Fawkes Day: Irrelevant until V for Vendetta was made. I mean seriously, who gave a crap about the 5th of November until this movie? I saw some fireworks tonight in London. It is a pretty big deal here although the finale was about 2 minutes long, nothing like the fourth of July. Its an interesting because it is tough to tell if they are celebrating the attempt to kill the king or the fact that he escaped...
Cereal Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 Guy Fawkes Day: Irrelevant until V for Vendetta was made. I mean seriously, who gave a crap about the 5th of November until this movie? Only 6 more months til cinco de mayo?

Its an interesting because it is tough to tell if they are celebrating the attempt to kill the king or the fact that he escaped... They're celebrating the fact that the plot was foiled and that Fawkes was caught. He didn't escape. (Or did you mean the king? He didn't escape, either; Parliament never blew up.) I love London. Best city on the planet, at least that I've been to. But freaking expensive.

Yeah, celebrating the King escaping not Guy Fawkes is I guess the official interpretation. London is a great city and I have found a Canadian pub that has Molson on tap and hockey on tv.
cdexchange Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 London is a great city and I have found a Canadian pub that has Molson on tap and hockey on tv. Nice find! Do they play Canadien music too?
wonderbread Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 Nice find! Do they play Canadien music too? Look out momma theres a white boat coming up the river With a big red beacon, and a flag, and a man on the rail I think you’d better call john, ’cause it don’t look like they’re here to deliver the mail And it’s less than a mile away I hope they didn’t come to stay It’s got numbers on the side and a gun And it’s makin’ big waves. Daddy’s gone, my brother’s out hunting in the mountains Big john’s been drinking since the river took emmy-lou So the powers that be left me here to do the thinkin’ And I just turned twenty-two I was wonderin’ what to do And the closer they got, The more those feelings grew. Daddy’s rifle in my hand felt reassurin’ He told me, red means run, son, numbers add up to nothin’ But when the first shot hit the docks I saw it comin’ Raised my rifle to my eye Never stopped to wonder why. Then I saw black, And my face splashed in the sky. Shelter me from the powder and the finger Cover me with the thought that pulled the trigger Think of me as one you’d never figured Would fade away so young With so much left undone Remember me to my love, I know I’ll miss her.
inkman Posted November 6, 2009 Author Report Posted November 6, 2009 Maybe it's just me, but Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture stirs my emotions up very nicely.

Ohiofan Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 Give his Piano Concerto in Bb minor a listen some time. The entire Nutcracker is a gorgeous piece of music
Eleven Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 The entire Nutcracker is a gorgeous piece of music  But the name is disturbing.
