spndnchz Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 How would I handle it? I'd tell my GM to stop shopping in the blue light special aisles and go out and get me a solid back up net minder. But then again we are talking about OSP and Darcy. At the time, I wanted Auld. Looking at it now, his numbers are just slightly higher than LaLime's but not stellar. IIRC, there weren't many options out there for backups. AFA money, I don't think we can blame OSP this year for not spending, they're only a few mill from the cap this year. Just think if each player got a few thousand more we'd be over.
spndnchz Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Maybe the mods were out to lunch! :nana: Mods aren't supposed to eat!

shrader Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Mods aren't supposed to eat! There's about 18 of them, so they could at least schedule their lunches so that we are never left in a state of pure chaos.
Cereal Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Thanks Coach Obvious.. with 3 games in 4 days obviously Miller's not going to play all three. Well... didn't he play all three last week? I'll bet he plays all three this week.
korab rules Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Well... didn't he play all three last week? I'll bet he plays all three this week. No takers on that bet!
novascotiaguy Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 No takers on that bet! Miller will play all three look at the teams we play fri and sat. Ruff would not put pat in against the nyi so there is no chance Enroth plays this week.

SHAAAUGHT!!! Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Then why did they put him in at 3-0? ;) Yeah, there goes my conspiracy theory. They are reporting the injury happened during Monday's practice.
biodork Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Patty is absolutely no Miller, but he has shown flashes that he can be decent (think earlier in the season last year). I think his troubles are largely due to rust and lack of confidence from Lindy playing him so infrequently, and it certainly doesn't help that when he does play it is often the second of back-to-back games so the team in front of him is tired and less strong defensively. I'll be the first to admit he lets in some soft goals from time to time, but a lot of nights he just doesn't get much help in front.
Cobleskill Fan Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 I saw Enroth and Portland play in Albany last month. Enroth looked bad, gave up rebounds left and right that came back as goals. If Lalime is out for any time, the Sabres need to find someone else. What is the Dominator up to these days?
nfreeman Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 if we beat the Isles & the Flyers then Miller will sit out against the Bruins.. Maybe, although... What is the Dominator up to these days? yeeeeeesh. Bad numbers and now eyewitness testimony. I can't say I'd be surprised if they bring in a goalie.

It might have just been a couple of games, but I really liked the look of Tellqvist - shame we didn't hang on to him and cut Lalame (no, i'm not above the name-calling)
nfreeman Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Well, Jerry Sullivan isn't the best hockey writer in the world, but I did like his column today on Marty. The problem, I'm sure, is that Marty wants to start somewhere, and it doesn't make sense for the Sabres to trade for him if he doesn't want to be here as a backup. It's also likely that by the time RdP comes back, some team will need a starter, and the Islanders will probably be able to get more from that team than they would from the Sabres (not to mention Marty's preference). Still, it really would be great to get him back here. It's not impossible that everything comes together -- i.e. RdP comes back, the Islanders want to trade Marty, the Sabres offer a draft pick (maybe the one they got for Paille), nobody else is offering them anything, and Marty is faced with the choice of coming back here or getting waived, so he gets on board with the idea. If the Sabres are still winning 80% of their games and make that happen, I'd have a hard time controlling my optimism at that point.
shrader Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 yeeeeeesh. Bad numbers and now eyewitness testimony. I can't say I'd be surprised if they bring in a goalie. It's only testimony from one game though. Some of the comments yesterday made it sound like he has been playing better recently. Cobleskill said it was a month ago, so things can change. It might have just been a couple of games, but I really liked the look of Tellqvist - shame we didn't hang on to him and cut Lalame (no, i'm not above the name-calling) Tellqvist signed overseas pretty quickly once the season ended. I think it's a safe assumption that it was something he wanted to do and keeping him around was never a serious option. edit: nfreeman, the whole idea of the Islanders trading Biron makes one major assumption, that DiPietro ever comes back. Quite frankly, I won't believe that until I actually see it.

LabattBlue Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 If the Sabres give up anything to get another goalie, trade one of the 50 blueline prospects we have in the system instead of giving up draft picks that will be needed to build up forward/goaltending depth. IMO...Darcy does nothing. Lindy wears out Miller. Lalime alternates between sucking on the ice once a month or rotting on the bench. Enroth gets a shot down the stretch and they keep their fingers crossed that he is good enough to spell Miller for a few games in March.

LabattBlue Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Darcy did something last year. If they're faced with a long stretch with Enroth as the backup, he'll find someone again. He only made the trade because Miller was hurt, correct? If Lalime is healthy, we're stuck with him.

Quite frankly, I won't believe that until I actually see it. According to the article, he is back skating every other day now, and could be as little as a month away. I would love to see it happen, but salary would have to move, not just a pick, as Marty would put us right up against the cap, even if we sent Lalime down and ate his salary. On a positive note, I was pleased to see Enroth sporting the #1. Tired of these freaking goalies wearing football numbers.

I'm with ya on Enroth wearing #1, but not on the cap issue -- I think Marty makes less than Paille did. And I don't see DR parting with a roster player or a prospect in exchange for what will most likely be only half a season of Marty.
Calvin Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 a couple of things on the goalkeeping situation.. most recaps on Enroth said that he got better last season as the year went along.. the Pirates are off to a rotten start this year - i don't follow enough Pirates hockey to know whether that's on Enroth or the whole team in general. any one with more info there? last year Miller got hurt and Darcy made the move for Tellqvist because it looked like the playoffs would be on. this season, if come deadline we're still playing like we are now then both DR & LR have been around long enough to know that there is no way Lalime is a strong enough backup to rely on all the way to the Cup. (of course, the hockey gods at this point will turn around and put the team on Lalime's back during the playoffs and he'll take us all the way to the hallowed land - i will be glad to eat my hat whole, with no buffalo sauce, if that happens) i wasn't around during the Roloson years in Buffalo.. the stats look quite miserable Season Team League GP W L T OT MIN GA SO GAA SV% 1998–99 Buffalo Sabres NHL 18 6 8 2 – 911 42 1 2.77 .909 1999–00 Buffalo Sabres NHL 14 1 7 3 – 677 32 0 2.84 .884 was the true picture any different than what the stats show? how was he in the locker room with the rest of the team?
wjag Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 There's about 18 of them, so they could at least schedule their lunches so that we are never left in a state of pure chaos. What's wrong with pure chaos? Now impure chaos is a different story and should be avoided...
