I have a read few articles here and there indicating that MSG has a limit on high def games with the Sabres, but no one has explained MSG's hangup on broadcasting in high def on directv. Thank you

There's basically a dispute between MSG and DTV. The only way to see the Sabres in HD is on non-MSG channels, NHL Network, and VS. However, there are no Sabres games scheduled for the NHL Network this season and VS is off of DTV for now. So if you live outside of the Sabres home market, you wont get to see the game in HD and listen to Rick J. You'll have to see if the opponents TV is going out in HD. Welcome to the board. Thank you If you are local to the Buffalo area, there is NO hangup. DirecTv broadcasts the same number of games on MSG in HD as Time Warner does. At this time the Sabres only make home games available in HD on MSG. There is one exception. Earlier this year they announced that road games against the other MSG teams (Isles, Rangers, Devils) would also be broadcast in HD, but with our announcers and the home team video feed. This was a bit screwed up during the devils game, but was corrected by the end. If you are out of market, MSG is not available in HD on ANY other service. The company that owns MSG refuses to allow other broadcasters (Directv, dish, FIOS or other cable outlets) to have access to the HD feed on services like Center Ice. Hope that helps, its definitely not a DirecTv thing.
